The sun rose brightly over Arendelle, its golden rays bathing the cobbled streets and rooftops in warmth. A fresh breeze swept across the kingdom, carrying with it the anticipation and energy of a special day — Queen Elsa's coronation.
Ethan stood in front of the inn's modest mirror, adjusting the formal attire Kai had helped him borrow. It wasn't extravagant, but the clean lines and simple tailoring fit him well. A deep navy coat with silver trim, polished boots, and a crisp white shirt — he looked like a proper guest for royalty.
He took a deep breath, his heart pounding. "Why am I nervous? I'm not the one being crowned," he muttered with a smirk, but deep down, he knew the reason.
Princess Anna.
She had left quite an impression on him. Despite the whirlwind of their brief interactions, there was something refreshingly real about her—her impulsiveness, her warmth, her curiosity. And now, she had personally invited him to the coronation.
He stepped out of the inn and into the festive streets. Decorations adorned every window and banner; townspeople bustled excitedly while foreign dignitaries arrived at the castle gates. Carriages clattered down stone roads, nobles dressed in their finest silks and jewels. It was like something out of a fairy tale.
Ethan made his way toward the castle, guided by Kai's directions and the ever-growing crowd. As he neared the gates, he spotted Anna — no, Princess Anna — standing near the courtyard fountain. Her strawberry-blonde hair was elegantly braided and adorned with a small golden clip. She wore a green coronation gown that hugged her figure tastefully, decorated with dark floral patterns that complimented her light complexion and sparkling teal eyes.
She looked radiant.
When she saw him, she waved enthusiastically, breaking every ounce of royal decorum.
"You actually came!" she said, beaming as he approached.
Ethan smiled. "Of course. You invited me, didn't you, Princess Anna?"
She blushed lightly at the title and shook her head. "You don't have to call me that. Just Anna is fine when we're not around nobles."
"Understood," he said, offering his hand. "You look… stunning, by the way."
Anna's face turned a deeper shade of pink. "Thanks. You clean up pretty nicely too. Definitely don't look like someone who punched a wolf last week."
He laughed softly. "Yeah, let's not bring that up at a royal event."
"Good call." She smiled and motioned for him to follow. "Come on. I want you to see the ceremony."
As they entered the castle, Ethan couldn't help but admire the grand halls, marble floors, and intricate chandeliers. Arendelle's architecture was even more beautiful up close — a perfect blend of elegance and strength. The ballroom was already filled with nobles and dignitaries, and soft chamber music played in the background.
"Sit with me," Anna whispered as they approached a reserved section near the front.
Ethan hesitated. "Are you sure? I mean—"
"Yes," she cut him off, grabbing his arm and pulling him toward the seats.
The ceremony began shortly after, the large cathedral-like room falling silent as Queen Elsa entered. Dressed in a deep royal blue gown with a dark cape lined in fur, she carried herself with grace, but her eyes were filled with nerves. Ethan could sense her anxiety from where he sat. She was trying to hold something back.
As the bishop placed the coronation orb and scepter into her gloved hands, Ethan noticed the slight tremor. Anna, sitting beside him, leaned forward in concern. A bead of sweat rolled down Elsa's temple. She gripped the items tightly, then quickly passed them back. The bishop proclaimed her queen, and the room erupted in applause.
"Is she okay?" Ethan whispered.
Anna shook her head slowly. "I don't know. I haven't seen her much… She's been distant lately."
After the coronation, a celebration commenced in the grand ballroom. The atmosphere was light, laughter echoing throughout the halls, and musicians playing an upbeat tune. Ethan stood by the refreshment table, sipping a glass of chilled cider when Anna returned, now barefoot, having ditched her heels.
"You're missing the dancing," she said, slightly out of breath.
"I'm not much of a dancer."
Anna raised a brow. "You fought monsters, but you're afraid to dance?"
He chuckled. "Touché."
"Come on," she said, pulling him again.
Their dance was clumsy at first — Ethan barely avoiding stepping on her toes — but they found rhythm soon enough, spinning and laughing with genuine joy. The people around them smiled, curious about the handsome stranger dancing with the princess.
After a few songs, they returned to the sidelines. "You're not bad," Anna teased, fanning herself.
"I've had worse battles," he replied, smiling.
As they sat again, Ethan noticed a strange chill in the air. He looked up — a soft frost had begun to spread across one of the windows.
"…Did you feel that?" he asked.
Anna looked confused. "Feel what?"
He stood slowly, watching as the frost began to creep along the wall. Something was wrong.
Before they could react further, a loud voice boomed from across the hall. "Your Majesty, the fjord—it's frozen!"
The music stopped. All eyes turned toward the queen.
Elsa, pale and tense, stood frozen in place. Gasps echoed as her hands sparked with icy light, accidentally sending a wave of frost across the ballroom floor. Guests screamed and backed away. Elsa looked around, horrified, then turned and fled from the castle.
"Elsa!" Anna cried, chasing after her sister.
Ethan stood stunned. So it's really happening…
He had seen this part in the movie. The part where everything began to unravel. But now, standing here in the thick of it, it was more than just a story.
Chaos erupted. People panicked as the icy curse spread beyond the walls. The fjord froze solid, ships locked in ice. Snow began to fall in midsummer.
"Anna!" Ethan yelled, pushing through the crowd to follow her.
She was already outside, watching as Elsa sprinted across the frozen water, creating a bridge of ice beneath her feet as she escaped into the mountains.
Ethan ran up beside Anna, breathing heavily. "What are you going to do?"
"I have to find her," she said, her voice shaky. "She didn't mean to… I need to talk to her. Maybe I can bring her back."
Ethan nodded. "Then I'll come with you."
She blinked. "You don't have to."
"I know," he said. "But I'm not letting you go into that alone."
Anna stared at him, speechless for a moment before giving a grateful smile. "Thank you."
As they turned to prepare for the journey, Ethan clenched his fists.
A new path… new dangers…
And still no idea how to return to his world.
But for now, he would face whatever came next — with Anna beside him.
