Chapter 17: Evening Mist Leaf

Chapter 17: Evening Mist Leaf

.

Zhu Rong had already planned several things to make the best use of many events from his past life, so he could quickly progress both in cultivation and in acquiring various resources.

The incident involving the Yao family was not one of them, and that was because the repercussions of that incident had been subtle but long-lasting, not important enough for his goals.

He didn't know exactly what had happened, but he did know that the two sides had clashed over the acquisition of some resource, and in the end, it was the Yao family that was defeated.

Now that he thought about it, the matter was rather strange, because the family that rose to power after the fall of the Yao family was a small family from a district of Lushan Province.

Their rise had been swift and silent, so much so that no one noticed it, or at least, not in time.

With one important family falling and another rising to power, the dynamics within the empire changed, especially in the province where everything had taken place.

Even the beast tide that had struck the empire and devastated the province hadn't caused much damage to the family that had ascended.

In fact, now that he thought about it, they were the ones who had suffered the least consequences.

Too many things now seemed to make no sense upon reflection, and within them, there appeared to be a faint connection tied to that family.

He wondered if this was just a coincidence or if he was overthinking.

That said, he was curious to know what had triggered that incident in the first place.

What was so important that both parties hadn't cared at all about the consequences?

He didn't know, but he did know where everything had happened.

If that family had truly survived the incident thanks to that resource, which might have been the reason behind their rapid rise, then he had to obtain it.

'Tch, better to think about more immediate things first.

Right now, I'm not even fit to fight a regular beast, let alone steal a resource from two powers like those,' he told himself, shaking his head.

Since he had finished his work, he now had the day free.

He decided then to go and gather some of the materials he needed for his medicine.

In total, the materials he needed for the medicine were five, and among them, four were easy to obtain.

The problem was the fifth one,

The Evening Mist Leaf .

A herb that grows near lakes or mountain rivers but loses its spiritual properties within an hour of being harvested.

Furthermore, for each plant, only two out of five leaves can be used.

He wasn't sure he'd be able to find it easily, given its peculiar nature.

It was possible to seal it within special containers, but those were expensive and not easy to find in regular shops.

So either he'd have to go to some more private shops and spend a small fortune, or find it himself.

He knew of a place in the mountains near the city of Qiyan where a few Evening Mist Leaf plants grew, the problem was getting there.

Without cultivation and other means, he was vulnerable, and at night the situationwas even more dangerous, as many nocturnal predators roamed the area.

Right now, even a wild mountain boar could knock him flying, let alone the spirit beasts lurking there.

"Well, i guess I don't have many other options," he said to himself, while the face of a person came to mind.

He would have preferred to avoid meeting that person so soon, but given his current situation, she was probably the only one he could count on, at least a little, for the time being.

[ Instructors' Quarters ]

In a garden at the back of a residence, a woman with silver hair tied in a ponytail and dressed in light training clothes sat cross-legged on a small platform, while a faint aura, red with small traces of purple, surrounding her.

Her posture was straight and motionless, like a refined and elegant statue.

The atmosphere was serene, with only a few bird chirps occasionally ringing out.

Liang Yuexin had taken advantage of her last few free days to take a step forward in her cultivation.

She was already at the advanced level of the Foundation Establishment stage, and she was just one small step away from reaching the next stage.

But the more she cultivated, the more she felt that this last step to surpass her current stage was becoming increasingly difficult.

'Haa, I still can't harmonize them. At this rate, I won't be able to solidify my dantian,' she thought a little discouraged, letting out a weary sigh.

She had tried several times over the past month to make the breakthrough, but no matter how hard she worked, she couldn't fully stabilize her dantian.

Cultivators at the third stage of the Mortal Realm needed to stabilize and completely solidify their dantian so it could withstand the tides of the next realm, but no matter how she tried, she couldn't do it.

It felt like she was missing one last piece, but she still hadn't figured out what it was.

In the end, she decided to call it a day, standing up and getting ready to take a quick bath and clean herself,

but right at that moment, her eyes landed on a certain point in the garden, and her gaze couldn't

help but darken as she muttered:

"You again."

In front of her, on a tree near the wall that separated her garden from the rest, a young man was sitting comfortably, watching her.

The person in question was none other than Zhu Rong, who, seeing the faint purple vortex of energy forming in Liang Yuexin's hand, couldn't help but panic a little and say:

"Hey, what are you doing? Stop, how can you treat your fiancé like this?" he said, a note of panic in his voice.

He knew that if that strike hit him, at the very least he'd end up paralyzed from head to toe.

At best, it would take a month or two to recover from an attack of that kind.

Liang Yuexin didn't seem to calm down.

In fact, it looked like those words had made her even angrier, while the energy in her hand swirled and formed a small purple sphere.

"You have exactly five seconds to explain yourself." she said coldly.

Don't blame me for what happens after,"
