Chapter 964: I look cool [1/2]
People were social creatures. I learned that as I bonded with the Sirens. Maybe that was because there were two genders. While many claimed otherwise, it was impossible to live this life alone. Those that say that they can just haven't really met anyone yet.
Among my girls, the most stoic and the one with the penchant for isolating was Jas. She was highly analytical and learned early on to kill her heart. While the one who cursed the most would be Robyn, the one closest to a machine was my Chocolate skill lover.
If something offended her, she was fine with murdering it. Yet, the number of times she would actually act would be even rarer. And it wasn't because of cowardice. But more because she didn't see the need.
Jasmine Denel cared only about one thing in this world. Those she loved. Earlier on, it only had Jo in it. Then me. Now, my adopted family and hopefully the rest of the Sirens. Thus, seeing my woman quivering meant only one thing.
The swirling emotions in her were so powerful that her body acted without permission.
When I moved, the rest of the Sirens released me. I didn't know if it was because they knew what I was going to do or if they were surprised. But I couldn't help reminding myself of how much I loved them. To the six who watched me, I mouthed, "I love you."
They smiled. And gestured to their emotional sister.
Nodding, I approached Jas from behind. Only for her to turn around. When she did, tears were falling down her cheeks. Her expression reminded me of a little girl who had just had her heart broken.
"Husband…I-I"
Not letting her finish, I pulled her into my embrace. I wrapped my arms around her to warm her up. I focused on her Kindred link and sent her a truckload of love and affection. Jas's arms grabbed me as she buried herself in my chest. She then began to whimper pitifully.
"Husband… Husband… What do we do? What do we do? Husband…"
Like a broken record player, Jas sobbed uncontrollably. I could feel the anguish radiating from her. If you consider her reaction right now, it is way over the top. But I know from experience that emotions come from understanding.
This meant that my Wifey's reaction did not only reflect the information from the story we just heard. It incorporated Jas' insights into the topic with her own situation. And when you add that this woman can see the future. Then it was not hard to understand why she cried.
I embraced Jas tighter without saying anything. During such moments, it was better not to try to say anything. My Wifey was super smart. She didn't need my brains. What she needed was an emotional crutch to stand on.
That was my role. And my privilege as the man she chose.
And so we waited. Despite my not saying anything, the Sirens, Zanele, and Olamide waited. If anyone tried to hurry Jas, I would have shot them. To me, nothing was more important than my women. Thus, Jas could cry for a week, and I wouldn't mind.
I gently rubbed my Wifey's back as she continued to bawl her eyes out. Only the sound of her sobs filled the hut. After about ten minutes, she finally stopped.
Jas slowly pulled away and looked up at my face. Her eyes were puffy and her lips were making an adorable pout.
"Husband. Why didn't you stop me?"
Finding her words cute, I chuckled.
"What? Why would I?"
"I am a grown woman, yet I cried like a pitiful child in front of everyone. Its embarrassing."
I couldn't resist how adorable my ice-cold Wifey was. I kissed the tip of her nose as I replied.
"No one minds, Wifey. I will butcher anyone who says otherwise."
Jas buried her face in my chest as she whispered.
"You are an uncouth ogre who knows nothing but violence. Yet why do I find your words so charming and cool? Husband, something must be wrong with me."
"Hahahaha. Please never go to a doctor; if you get fixed, you might leave me."
I couldn't hold it in and laughed out loud as I embraced her.
"Never."
As my woman tried to imprint her face on my chest, I patted her back.
"Are you okay now?"
"I am."
Jas then quickly separated and faced the rest of the Sirens.
"Sisters, please forgive my shameful display. I will make it up to you."
But, contrary to expectations, my girls were all smiles. They answered cheerfully.
"I would never fault you, Jas; I remember the first time I broke down in front of Beloved. His warmth provided an extraordinary sense of comfort. Your reaction was understandable."
"No Siren would ever make fun of you, Jas; Dearest has a remarkable talent for getting women to open up to him. I'm surprised it only took you this long to be honest."
"Bloody Oath! Nothing better than getting pampered by Possum! If it were anyone else, I would have put a hole between her eyes. But you're well, my sister, so you get a pass."
"Hahaha! Darling's arms feel like the safest space in the world. You could just melt in them. Although I am a little jealous… Darling! Hug me too!"
"It feels good to finally see the ice queen break down and cry. I worried you were part robot or something. Honey did well. Are you ready to work now?"
"To find someone who would accept us completely is such a gift. Shujin's affection is worth more than the purest gold and finest jewels. Considering what it takes to earn it, enjoy every second Jas."
Jas then turned to Olamide and Zanele.
"Forgive me for my improper display and for wasting your time. I hope you do not take it against my Husband. He spoils me unbelievably so."
The matriarch of the Soldat clan shook her head as she smiled.
"Not at all, Lady Jas. It was such a nice scene. Knowing what I know of the Successor, his love for you knows no bounds. I find it inspiring and enviable. However, I also agree with Lady Aki's words. You all have earned it. Considering how you still stay with the Successor."
Olamide said nothing and just made a faint smile.
Seeing as she had regained her composure, I gently tugged Jas's arm as I asked.
"Wifey, did you see that we will also fight in the future?"
My Wifey clammed up, obviously uncomfortable, but I didn't press her and only took her hands in mine. She took a deep breath before continuing.
"Yes."
"Could you tell me more about it?"
"It was on Earth. We were in a land of ice. The Sirens, I, and the entirety of Hellsend. Allies, both Reapers and the Reborn, who stood with us. Even those we have yet to meet. It was such a powerful force that I couldn't believe my eyes. The Sirens and I led them as Revenants."
She then swallowed hard before she continued.
"On the side. It was you. Alone. Your hair turned white, and your body shone like a star. Your eyes had no emotion, only indifference. I didn't know what you wanted to do or why you were doing it. Only that the Sirens and I were resolved to kill you at any cost."
