Live-in Son-in-law

Chapter 10: Chapter 10 I Won't Divorce

Xia Yanbing did this, perhaps out of sympathy, or perhaps to make amends, but none of that mattered. Although it wasn't because of love, having someone care was enough.

"I still have a chance." Qin Yi muttered subconsciously. He still had a chance to make Xia Yanbing his true wife.

"What did you say?" Xia Yanbing, unable to hear clearly, asked curiously.

Only then did Qin Yi snap out of it, drawing back his excitement, and looked up at Xia Yanbing, saying, "I'm not getting a divorce."

Xia Yanbing's eyebrows arched slightly, and she said softly, "Qin Yi, I know two hundred thousand isn't much. But this is all I can help you with right now."

"I'm not refusing the divorce because the money is little; I just don't want a divorce. Unless one day you fall in love with someone else... But that can't happen, you're my wife, how could you love someone else?" Qin Yi muttered.

Xia Yanbing looked at Qin Yi strangely, sensing he seemed a bit out of character today, more domineering than usual, though she couldn't pinpoint exactly why.

"Qin Yi, have you thought it through? If the Xia Group goes under, then even these two hundred thousand will be gone too," Xia Yanbing said seriously.

"Then I'll wait until it goes under," Qin Yi said nonchalantly.

"By then, it'll be too late," Xia Yanbing said, somewhat angrily.

Qin Yi laughed, "I'm already like this, how much worse can things get? Even if the Xia Group really goes under, I'll just beg on the streets to support you. In this state, someone should give money, right?"

"Alright, I'll wash my hands, you finish your noodles; they won't taste good once cold."

Xia Yanbing was a bit dazed, watching Qin Yi wheeling himself into the bathroom, her gaze becoming peculiar. Qin Yi was talking a lot today, and his tone was more confident, which was quite unusual.

Qin Yi entered the bathroom, closed the door, and showed a bright smile at the mirror, reflecting his good mood. He wasn't there to wash his hands, but to call Liu Zhanyuan.

"Divine Doctor Qin, I was wondering whether to call you, but worried about disturbing you. Your father-in-law just came by, but I didn't see him and had someone send him away,"

Qin Yi's lips curled slightly—he had anticipated this.

"Chairman Liu, I'm calling because I need your help with something,"

"Divine Doctor Qin, please, go ahead," Liu Zhanyuan replied.

Qin Yi hesitated for a moment, then said, "Chairman Liu, I would like to borrow some money."

"How much does Divine Doctor Qin need?" Liu Zhanyuan asked.

"Thirty million."

"No problem," Liu Zhanyuan said straightforwardly.

Qin Yi was taken aback, surprised at Liu Zhanyuan's straightforwardness, and asked, "Chairman Liu isn't worried I won't be able to repay?"

"Divine Doctor Qin, don't joke. If you ask me, it's an honor for Liu Zhanyuan."

Qin Yi wasn't sure what Liu Zhanyuan was thinking, but he was genuinely grateful for his willingness to lend the money so easily.

"Chairman Liu, I'll come to your place tomorrow to give you a note as assurance,"

"Divine Doctor Qin, you're insulting me. If you make a note, I won't lend you the money,"

"Uh..." Qin Yi was taken aback, then laughed, "Chairman Liu, thank you sincerely! I owe you another big favor."

Liu Zhanyuan laughed heartily, "Shall I have someone deliver the money to you tomorrow?"

"No need, just give me an account number. I'll transfer twenty million to you, then have you invest this fifty million into the Xia Group,"

Liu Zhanyuan paused slightly, then said, "Understood, Divine Doctor Qin. Don't worry, I'll handle it beautifully for you,"

Qin Yi wasn't sure what Liu Zhanyuan was thinking, but the matter was resolved, and his mind was at ease. He slightly chuckled, wheeled himself forward, opened the door to leave—but froze at the sight of Xia Yanbing standing at the door.

"Why are you here?" Qin Yi was a bit guilty, fearing Xia Yanbing overheard him.

Xia Yanbing said coolly, "I'm brushing my teeth. How did washing your hands take so long?"

Qin Yi let out a breath of relief, realizing Xia Yanbing came in after finishing her noodles to brush her teeth and hadn't overheard his call with Liu Zhanyuan.

"Just washed a few more times," Qin Yi laughed it off.

As Qin Yi exited, Xia Yanbing went in and closed the door. Qin Yi looked on, puzzled: why shut the door just to brush teeth?

Little did he know, inside, Xia Yanbing was also full of suspicion. Something was off with Qin Yi today. She glanced around, even checking the trash can, but found nothing amiss.

Although Qin Yi's legs were crippled, doctors said his other bodily functions were normal. As a man, he had normal physiological needs, leading Xia Yanbing to suspect whether Qin Yi had done something indecent inside for so long.

Indeed, even a seemingly cool goddess like Xia Yanbing had a bashful side.

Qin Yi was lost in thought when his ears twitched slightly—someone was approaching their bedroom.

Soon enough, there was a knock at the door.

"Xiaobing, are you asleep?"

It was Dong Jinsu's voice. Her presence implied no good news. Qin Yi pretended not to hear, lowering the wheelchair's backrest and footrest to feign sleep.

Xia Yanbing came out of the bathroom, glanced at Qin Yi, then walked over to open the door.

"Mom, what is it?"

"Where's that good-for-nothing?" Dong Jinsu craned her neck to look inside, asking disdainfully.

"Mom, he's my husband, named Qin Yi," Xia Yanbing said blandly.

Dong Jinsu's eyebrows, looking like caterpillars, furrowed in dissatisfaction with Xia Yanbing's defense of Qin Yi.

"Xiaobing, Han Ning is here. You should go down and meet him," Dong Jinsu suddenly smiled widely.

Qin Yi's fingertips trembled slightly. Han Ning was Dong Jinsu's mahjong friend's child, a high achiever returned from overseas, good-looking but a total scoundrel, with excellent appearance and family background. Dong Jinsu intended to match him with Xia Yanbing.

"It's too late. Why is he here?" Xia Yanbing frowned.

"He was just passing by, wanted to see me and your dad,"

"Dad's back too?"

Dong Jinsu nodded.

"It's too late; I won't see him," Xia Yanbing said, sounding a bit tired; she was genuinely exhausted.

"You child, when guests come, it's rude to avoid them. You young folks have things to talk about; your dad and I would hold up the conversation," Dong Jinsu said forcefully, pulling Xia Yanbing away.

Qin Yi suddenly opened his eyes, his gaze icy. In the past, he might have let it go, but now, whoever dared to make a move on Xia Yanbing, he would destroy them.

Downstairs, Xia Yujiang was talking with Han Ning. Initially upset after being turned away by the Liu Family, his mood brightened upon seeing Han Ning.

"Han Ning, has the company been busy lately?" Xia Yujiang asked with a smiling face, looking kindly, so different compared to when facing Qin Yi.

Han Ning, modest on the surface, but slightly boasting, said, "Uncle Xia, the company just took on a big project, so it's been rather busy."

"Busy is good. Young people should focus on their careers, unlike some good-for-nothings who only eat and do nothing,"

Han Ning's eyes flashed with a hint of mockery; he naturally knew Xia Yujiang was referring to Qin Yi. This good-for-nothing, sooner or later, we'll make you leave the Xia Family. A woman like Xia Yanbing isn't someone a good-for-nothing can have.
