Lost Saint

Chapter 5: Saint

"Teo!... Teo!... Wake up!" The figure shook, "Please wake up!"

Ajax suddenly woke up. "What was that?" He thought with a confused expression, "Why did it feel so real?"

He laid on his bed for a while reminiscing about the dream but suddenly got up. He needed to find something to clear his mind.

He headed to the library for the first time. He didn't want to be caught as he sneaked down the hall.

In the library, he flicked on the light and scanned through the shelves, his eyes landing on a book titled Heroism. That was exactly what he needed.

The book sat at the very top of the shelf, so he had to stand on a chair to reach it. The chair was big for him, but he used all his strength to push it to the shelf.

He grabbed a few heavy books from the bottom and stacked them on top of another to give him a boost.

With determination, he climbed the chair, using his leg to push himself up and grab the book. Once he had it in his hands, he whispered, "Yes!" His face lit up with pride.

He settled into the chair to read, unaware that his mother, Athena, had woken up and noticed his absence. Quietly, she followed him, watching from the doorway as he sat, completely engrossed.

Cleared her throat, and stepped into the room. Ajax spun around, startled.

With a soft smile, Athena approached him, gently lifting him from the chair and sitting down herself. She placed Ajax on her lap and, without a word, opened the book to read it aloud.

The story was about Lady Tempus, a commoner from nearly 500 years ago. Though skilled, Lady Tempus was weaker than most, and she never had the chance to attend any academy—those were reserved for the noble and royal.

Then, a man with the ability to control shadows conquered their nation and spread darkness across the nations. People were slaughtered, and there was no peace throughout his rule. The world needed a hero.

Lady Tempus had prayed daily to Goddess Tempus, asking for help. Years passed with no answer. But in her late 50s, still unwavering in her prayers, the Goddess finally answered. She gave Lady Tempus the power of time magic and rewound her age to her early twenties. In return, Lady Tempus would die six months after she had restored peace.

She agreed.

Lady Tempus joined forces with three others from the other nations, and together they overthrew the shadow-possessed tyrant. Six months after the victory, as promised, Lady Tempus died.

She was named after Goddess Tempus due to her time magic, and heroic sacrifice. Her legacy lived on, and she was celebrated as the greatest hero the nation had ever known.

"She was brave," Ajax said softly, his voice full of awe.

"Yes, she was," Athena responded with a gentle tone. "She was a commoner, overlooked by many, but she saved everyone. She thought of others, even when no one thought of her."

Athena brushed her hand through his hair. "Ajax, when you grow up, be brave like Lady Tempus, okay?"

"Okay, Mom," Ajax whispered, his eyelids heavy.

Athena carried him back to his room, tucking him into bed and watching as he drifted off to sleep, her heart full of love for her little boy.

The sun was scorching more than ever, Ajax woke up with his eyes still feeling heavy. "Oh it's already afternoon," he thought.

"Lucius, why haven't I seen God again?"

[It beats me, but I believe he will meet you when the time is right,] Lucius said, [Ajax, have you thought of your ultimate skills yet?]

"I thought you could read my mind. You already haven't, I'm just five."

[Five years is older than you think,] Lucius responded with an annoyed tone.

Suddenly, the dream he had flashed through his mind.

"What was that?" He thought.

[I lack knowledge about it too, but it would be best if you ignored it for me,] Lucius said.

"Why so?"

[There is more to you than you and I know, and stress would not help,] Lucius replied.

"You are not at your full potential now, is that it?"

[Yes, it is,] Lucius replied.

There was a sudden knock, Alex had come to ask Ajax to prepare for their training.

Ajax sat on the floor, calmed down his nerves and focused on conjuring items with his elements.

He practiced these whenever he woke up, to increase his control over them.

Duty had called, so he wrapped up his routine. He rushed to take his bath, headed to the kitchen to get something to fill his stomach, and joined his father on the training grounds.

The absence of Arrow made the training ground a bit empty, but now he had found joy in his father's enthusiastic personality.

But something bothered Ajax, his father never fought him seriously. He wanted a challenge, but there was none.

"I have to do this," Ajax thought.

Alex swung his sword.

"This is too weak. Come on, Dad!"

Ajax swerved. Conjured earth at Alex but he blocked. Alex wet the floor hoping Ajax would slip, but he flipped.

Sighed

Conjured water into the sky and hit it with fire magic to create a fog.

Alex suddenly lost his focus, and Ajax tripped him and pointed his sword at his neck.

Athena, who had been observing from the sidelines, quickly rushed in with excitement and lifted Ajax.

Ajax decided to reveal his fire magic, hoping his mom would get to train him and see what she got for him.

"Perhaps Mom will take me seriously," he thought.

Unfortunately, nothing went as expected. She was excited, perhaps the most excited Ajax had seen her be since birth, after she saw Ajax use fire magic. Yet not once did Athena spar with Ajax.

She helped Ajax in conjuring his magic and gave him personal tips and tricks on how to understand his earth and fire magic better.

The day arrived, Ajax's sixth birthday. His family hosted a grand celebration attended by the Romanov family, royals, nobles, and esteemed guests. To their surprise, Athena's family was present.

Athena, carefully styled his long hair, weaving a single braid and secured it with a red band she made herself.

Alex announced Ajax's fire affinity. The crowd was subtled, "A tri-mage?" They whispered among themselves.

Wielding multiple elements was a rarity, particularly at this young age.

Immediately, the Romanov family asked to see Ajax's ability. They took him to a room for privacy and asked Ajax to conjure all his elements.

A new God had been born; the Romanov family held their heads high. Finally, the next generation was a good hand.

As they all celebrate and enjoy the moment, Ajax gets overwhelmed by everything and sleeps.
