LOTM: Paradox Pathway

Chapter 18: Chapter 18: Mr. Fool Wants to Cry But Has No Tears

"The offspring of an evil god, a divine envoy about to arrive, and an Spectator hidden in the shadows..." Klein listened to Mr. Devil's muttering-like words, his expression becoming increasingly grave.

Tingen City was merely a small third-tier city. Before his transmigration, it probably wouldn't even qualify as a third-tier city. Its only advantage was having a considerable number of higher education institutions, making it something like a university town.

Such a city naturally wouldn't receive much attention from the officials. The strongest combat power of the entire Church of the Evernight Goddess in this city was at most Captain Dunn, a Sequence 7: Nightmare.

For this city, whether it was the Spectator secretly manipulating fate, the Aurora Order divine envoy about to arrive, or the offspring of the Fallen Creator, all were absolutely unbearable weights.

But what should he do about it?

Report it? Would such unclear information be accepted? He couldn't very well say he saw it during divination, could he?

Klein paced above the gray fog, pondering for a long while. In the end, he still extended his spirituality and pulled the Devil up to the Gray Fog...

...

Feeling the deep crimson radiance suddenly spreading like a tide before his eyes, Snow was slightly stunned. Then, his spirit body arrived above the gray fog.

'He actually chose to directly pull me up? It seems Klein at this point in time is still quite naive!' Snow grumbled internally, but on the surface, he put on a respectful attitude. He pressed one hand to his chest, bent down in a bow, and then spoke in a tone resembling that of a devout believer:

"Honorable Mr. Fool, may I ask what instructions you have?"

'Directly asking for instructions? It seems student Devil has quite high awareness!' Klein complained bitterly to himself, then put on the tone of a pleasant superior:

"I'm very interested in your previous prayer. Would you mind giving me the details?"

"I shall comply with your wishes." Snow bowed respectfully again, then said:

"You should remember that I once mentioned two Secret Suppliant practitioners had buried a seed in Tingen City. After investigation, I discovered this pointed to a fraudster named Lanevus. After a simple investigation, I decided to leak his existence to peripheral members of the Secret Order. Although the Secret Order and the Aurora Order don't have direct hostile relations, considering their possible arrangements in Tingen, they certainly wouldn't want an evil god to descend here. Moreover, the Secret Order is indeed skilled at finding people."

'But the problem is, you didn't find a Secret Order member!' Klein complained frantically in his mind, but on the surface, he had to put on an expression of listening to a reasoning story. He lightly tapped the table with his index finger and said with interest:

"Not a bad idea. What happened next?"

"After completing the commission, I originally planned to monitor that Secret Order peripheral member to use this to contact the Secret Order's higher-ups in Tingen. However, I unexpectedly saw a woman carrying the offspring of the True Creator. As you know, being a Secret Suppliant practitioner, I'm very sensitive to the True Creator's divinity. I could almost immediately confirm that it was definitely an evil god's offspring."

'True Creator's offspring... female... Lanevus... wait!' Klein's pupils suddenly contracted. Fortunately, his face was obscured by the Gray Fog, so he didn't reveal any flaws.

At this moment, he once again thought of that Mrs. Megose, and one thing became clear—

Why had he "forgotten" to use Spirit Vision?

That wasn't forgetfulness, but his spirituality warning him!

Warning him not to directly gaze upon a god!

"So close!" Klein felt a chill of fear, but Snow continued:

"I was worried that my existence would be sensed by the evil god's offspring, so I immediately left that place. Then I wrote to notify the Aurora Order's divine envoy. If there are no accidents, he should arrive in Tingen within two to three days, then take away that lady and the evil god's offspring in her womb. But I don't think it will go so smoothly."

"Oh? Can you tell me why you chose to notify the Aurora Order's divine envoy?" Klein asked in an examining tone. From Mr. Devil's recent performances, he shouldn't have any loyalty to the Aurora Order. On the contrary, he could be said to be very principled. He really couldn't understand why such a person would first choose to report to the Aurora Order.

Who would have thought that as soon as Klein said this, Mr. Snow suddenly performed a grand bow in panic, then said in a nervous tone:

"Honorable Mr. Fool, I am not being disloyal to you. It's just that you don't seem to want us to spread your name, so I didn't dare to trouble the angels under your command. In this situation, having the Aurora Order's divine envoy take away the evil god's offspring is undoubtedly the best choice."

At this point, Snow paused slightly, as if observing Mr. Fool's emotions. Seeing that the Fool hadn't become angry over his lack of devotion, he continued:

"Tingen City doesn't have powerful official Beyonders. Whether it's the Punishers, the Machinery Hivemind, or the Nighthawks, the strongest is only Sequence 7. Even wielding high-level Sealed Artifacts, they can at most suppress Beyonders below Sequence 5. Detonating news of the evil god's offspring, who might be a demigod, in Tingen would undoubtedly cause enormous casualties.

Backlund is different. Even without counting the royal family, there are at least three angels and numerous demigods stationed there permanently. The evil god's offspring being born in Backlund wouldn't cause too much impact. Moreover, the Aurora Order's divine envoy himself receives high attention. His departure from Backlund to arrive in Tingen might attract official attention, thereby drawing higher-Sequence official Beyonders."

"Not daring to trouble the angels under my command? You really think highly of me." Klein muttered internally, but he gave considerable affirmation to Snow's approach.

Just as he was about to find an excuse to end this questioning, Klein suddenly remembered the "Spectator" matter again. Snow was so vigilant about this Sequence; he always felt there was some mystery behind it.

But if he asked directly and there was nothing there, his dignity would drop. After thinking about it, he used a tone of having seen through everything:

"What else?"

"..." Snow found this amusing internally. He had originally wanted to offer a way out, but he hadn't expected Mr. Fool to be so cooperative. He immediately nodded:

"Mr. Fool sees clearly. Actually, I discovered that everything happening in Tingen City was premeditated. A high-Sequence Beyonder of the Spectator pathway, or a Beyonder who has mastered high-Sequence Spectator pathway Beyonder items, planned all of this. The so-called evil god's offspring is merely a chess piece he 'created' to achieve his goals. The reason I tried to drag the Secret Order into this muddy water was also to muddy the waters, because as you know, Seer's are the group most likely to attract an Spectator's attention."

'The mastermind behind Tingen City is an Spectator? Seer's are most likely to attract an Spectator's attention? But Mr. Devil, the Seer you dragged into the water is your honorable Mr. Fool!'
