LOTM: Paradox Pathway

Chapter 25: Chapter 25: Tingen's Schemes Run Deep, I Want to Return to London (Backlund)

Watching the black cat leap out from the window, Trissy immediately resumed applying makeup, but her mind was contemplating the information the cat had revealed to her.

"A Divine Emissary of the Aurora Order... should correspond to one of the two Sequence 5s he mentioned. Since it's the Aurora Order, what they're looking for should be that so-called 'divinity,' or at least something related to divinity. The True Creator's divinity?"

Thinking of this, Trissy couldn't help but recall some of the conscious knowledge granted by the Witch potion, understanding that divinity could be used to arrange a true god's descent ritual. She finally understood why Tingen had become like this.

However...

"Shouldn't Backlund be dispatching elite Beyonders at a time like this? Or is this involving the game between gods?"

Trissy somewhat regretted not asking the complete thousand-pound question, but her rationality told her that the more she asked, the deeper she would sink. Now, at least she knew that Tingen's martial law was targeting a specific person, not the so-called "crackdown" as Emperor Roselle had mentioned.

In that case, as long as she was careful not to expose her Beyonder abilities and maintained anti-divination, she shouldn't need to worry too much.

"In any case, it's good that they're not specifically here to catch me..."

Trissy began constructing a plan in her mind, thinking about how to reasonably and safely reveal the news that the old Keeper of Secrets had been corrupted by the Hidden Sage. Meanwhile, Snow controlled Lily's body as it walked through the streets, simultaneously contemplating his next actions.

Snow had no personal relationship with Old Neil. If there was anything, it was only sympathy from a former "Curly-Haired Baboon" for a character from the original work.

As a "poor wretch" who had already transmigrated to this world, Snow naturally wouldn't simply put himself in danger out of sympathy for an original character. The reason for making such a choice during this sensitive period was, firstly, to muddy the waters further, and secondly, to make Tris sink deeper in the muddy waters. As for saving Old Neil, that was merely incidental.

Only when it didn't involve himself would he help others; only when it didn't harm others would he pursue benefits—well, villains weren't within the scope of "not harming."

"Not plucking a single hair, not taking a single cent, preserving one's complete nature, not letting material things burden one's form. Hmm, perhaps I could form an organization called All-Nature?" Snow mentally quipped, then circled around a small alley and crawled into Tingen City's not-so-spacious sewer system.

Snow smelled the odor in the sewer but was surprised to find it wasn't as disgusting as he'd imagined. This wasn't because Tingen's sewers were clean, but because he was currently using Lily's body.

Animals and humans have different senses of smell. Just as dogs are madly infatuated with the smell of stinky feet, cats also have a different concept of "stinky" compared to humans.

After nimbly squeezing through several narrow passages that would be impossible for a human body to pass through, Snow successfully reached a not-too-spacious area.

"Respected Mr. A, it's me." To avoid triggering the hostility of the "master" here, Snow spoke softly from outside the passage.

"Come in." Mr. A's voice was still pleasant to hear. Snow obediently crawled through the passage and saw Mr. A, who remained elegant despite being in the sewer.

"What's the matter?" Using the power of the [Devil] he had grazed, Mr. A confirmed that the visitor had no malicious intent and no one was following, then relaxed and examined the black cat before him.

"I've found some clues."

Snow looked at Mr. A's gaze and said calmly.

"Let's hear it." Mr. A, who had already confirmed that a mid-to-high Sequence Beyonder was involved behind the scenes, didn't think Snow could find anything significant, but he still didn't want to dampen the spirits of this devout believer he thought very highly of, asking in a gentle tone.

"I discovered that during the period when the Child of God was born, a large number of coincidences occurred around Hanass Vincent, or rather, around the notebook he sold, including the matter of the Child of God being conceived in a mortal woman."

"Oh?" Mr. A's previously indifferent expression changed slightly. He realized he might have underestimated this newcomer who had joined less than two months ago.

"Although I don't know what kind of ability this is due to limited knowledge, I found that the main scope of these coincidences basically all falls within the responsibility range of the Night Watchers."

Snow spoke in a speculative tone, while Mr. A roughly understood and nodded slightly.

"Continue."

"Although I don't know what the other party intends to obtain, if everything is within the other party's calculations, then the other party's scheme probably lies with the Church of the Evernight Goddess. And when the other party makes their move, they will inevitably find ways to draw away those who might pose a threat to them."

Speaking to this point, Snow closed his mouth, because the next words, as a believer, could not be said.

But Mr. A obviously understood his meaning. What was being used to draw away the official Beyonders was himself and the Child of God, wasn't it?

If considered from this angle, then the other party was currently consuming the energy of the official Beyonders. Conversely, when the official Beyonders reached their limit, the other party would very likely throw out the Child of God to attract them, then take the opportunity to complete their scheme.

So, as long as he kept a close eye on the Church of the Evernight Goddess, he should be able to discover the Child of God's whereabouts immediately, and at the same time, confirm the identity of this mastermind.

He wasn't worried about being unable to escape, because he had once recorded the [Travel] ability from Mr. X.

"Your intelligence is very valuable. Is there anything else?" Mr. A made plans for his next actions in his mind, then looked again at the black cat before him.

Although he had said it many times, Mr. A found that Snow, this newcomer, was becoming more and more pleasing to his eye.

"Hmm, I would like to apply to return to Backlund." The black cat spoke in a somewhat hesitant tone. Upon hearing this, Mr. A slightly furrowed his brow.

He didn't think Snow wanted to be a deserter, because he was very clear that the current Backlund was even more chaotic than Tingen.

"Do you know about the current situation in Backlund?" Mr. A pondered for a moment, then asked.

"I learned from the Backlund Morning Post that the Waltz Gang has been completely annihilated." Snow's words seemed to be a non sequitur, but Mr. A understood.

The Waltz Gang was one of the gangs that the Aurora Order supported in Backlund's East Borough. Many of its members were believers of the True Creator, including quite a few Secret Supplicants. The destruction of the Waltz Gang basically meant that the Aurora Order's forces in Backlund were facing enormous threats.

At the same time, the Waltz Gang itself was also the excuse that had forced Snow out of Backlund. Its downfall simultaneously meant that Snow had a reason to return to Backlund.
