Chapter 6: Chapter Six: Introducing Matthew De Clermont
Ambulance Bay at Saint Luke Hospital, 1993
As the sirens faded into the distance, the bustling sounds of the ambulance bay filled the air. Paramedics rushed in and out, their voices a blend of urgency and professionalism. Among the chaos, a figure emerged, standing tall and composed against the backdrop of the hurried activity. This was Matthew De Clermont, a man whose presence commanded attention—a striking contrast to the frantic environment around him.
Matthew, once known as Osman Ghazi, had a history that transcended time and place. His journey had led him here, to this moment in a nondescript hospital in 1993. The weight of his past lingered in the air, a silent testament to the life he had lived and the countless experiences that shaped him into the man he was today.
Standing at 6'1", with black hair and brown eyes, his masculine face and body reflected the weight of his past, which lingered in the air—a silent testament to the life he had lived and the countless experiences that shaped him into the man he was today.
He had no memory of that life after becoming a vampire. The remnants of his past lingered in the air around him. Now, those memories were lost, leaving only a shadow of what had been, a ghost that haunted the edges of his awareness.
Born as a human in the year 1258, he had lived a life filled with joys and sorrows, friendships and betrayals. However, after becoming a vampire in the year 1299, he retained no memory of that existence. The remnants of his past hovered around him like a faint mist, elusive and intangible. Now, those memories were lost, leaving behind only a shadow of what had been—a ghost that haunted the edges of his awareness, a constant reminder of the life he once knew but could no longer recall.
Then, as Clermont stood in the ambulance bay, he felt an unusual energy in the air, a sensation that stirred something deep within him. It was a feeling that he hadn't encountered in years—a connection to a new life about to emerge. He closed his eyes for a moment, focusing on the ebb and flow of magic that coursed through the building.
Suddenly, he sensed it: the birth of Lauren, a child imbued with extraordinary powers. The aura surrounding her was vibrant, pulsing with potential and raw magic. Clermont opened his eyes, his expression shifting from contemplation to determination. He understood that this child was destined for greatness, and her abilities would intertwine with the fate of many.
After many years, Matthew had the same visions he had when he became a newborn vampire. He saw her as a baby, her tiny hands curled into fists, her bright eyes wide with innocence as she giggled in delight. He could almost hear the soft coos she made, a sound filled with pure joy and wonder.
Subsequently, she matured into a young girl, her laughter intensifying as she engaged in imaginative play with dolls. He remembered the way she twirled around, her hair swirling like a golden halo, her spirit unburdened by the world's complexities.
Finally, she emerged as a young woman, confident and poised. He could see the determination in her eyes, a spark that promised strength and resilience. She stood tall, ready to face whatever challenges lay ahead, embodying the essence of the future they would share.
Matthew couldn't believe that his one true love had finally been born, a long-awaited arrival; he had waited for her to be born. This has been true ever since 1299, the year he was reborn as a vampire.
Then he remembered what his vampire father, Philippe, told him many years ago. "Love is timeless, Matthew," Philippe had said with a knowing gaze. "When you find your true love, you will know it in your very soul, regardless of the centuries that may pass."
Matthew then says to himself, "Thank you, Father."
As Matthew stood lost in his thoughts, reflecting on his father's words, his phone suddenly rang, breaking the silence of his reverie. Startled, he pulled it from his pocket and glanced at the screen. He realized it's from the neonatal care unit. Then he answers the phone.
"Hello?" he said, his voice curious.
The neonatal nurse on the other end greeted him warmly. "Hello, Dr. Jones. This is Nurse Emily from the neonatal care unit. I hope I'm not catching you at a bad time."
Matthew quickly shifted his focus, shaking off his earlier thoughts. "Not at all, Nurse Emily. What can I do for you?"
"There's a situation with one of the newborns that requires your expertise. Can you come down to the unit?"
"Of course. I'll be there right away," Matthew replied, feeling a sense of urgency. He hung up and made his way to the unit, ready to assist in any way he could.
