Chapter 8: Chapter 8: Too Good to Sell, Too Broke to Use
A Dilemma in the Beta
I walked out of Garrick's shop, still gripping the EXP Buff Gem in my hand.
It was perfect. Too perfect.
+50% EXP gain for an hour?
That was a game-changer.
But...
I checked my currency again.
> [CP: 0]
I exhaled. "No money. No inn. No food. Nothing."
I could sell this item. Maybe get 400, 600 CP for it.
…But could I really give up something this rare?
I clenched my teeth. No way.
If this was a beta-only item, then I'd never get another chance.
I needed money, but not like this.

A Resident in Trouble
As I wandered through town, lost in thought, I heard a frustrated sigh.
Turning my head, I spotted a young woman standing outside a clothing shop.
She had dark brown hair tied in a messy bun, her sleeves rolled up, and she looked exhausted.
Her name tag read:
> [NPC: Nina – Tailor's Assistant]
I watched as she muttered to herself.
"Stupid pests… I already hired adventurers, but nothing changed."
My ears perked up. Pests? Adventurers?
That sounded like a side quest.
I approached. "Uh, hey. You need help with something?"
Nina turned to me, eyes widening. "Oh, you're an adventurer?"
"Something like that," I said.
She sighed. "If you are, then maybe you can actually do something about this."
She gestured toward the store behind her.
"My boss's shop has been overrun by rats. Not normal ones. They're… weird."
I raised an eyebrow. "Weird how?"
"They vanish during the day. Like, completely gone."
I frowned. That was weird.
"Didn't you hire adventurers?" I asked.
"I did! But they couldn't find anything."
That meant this wasn't a normal pest problem.
I crossed my arms. "A hidden quest? A beta feature?"
Either way, this sounded different from your standard rat-killing job.
Jackpot.
I grinned. "Alright, I'll take the job."
