Chapter 86: Duel in a year
"Don't make this more difficult. Fengxue's family already had an agreement with my family over the matter but I'm willing to settle this with a duel. Don't you think you should save your in-laws some face by proving that you're worthy of their family's most talented daughter? Or are you someone who only knows how to rely on their backers?" The old fox said.
Leon's face didn't change even after hearing this; this old fart was just trying to provoke his rash nature; a natural hot-blooded youth would have immediately accepted, but sadly for him, Leon wasn't the same.
'Hmph! I'm someone who experienced 200 lifetimes in six months, do you think I'll be easily provoked? So what if I only rely on my Master and Senior sister, you should blame yourself for being too weak!' Leon thought to himself.
He then looked at Fengxue's parents, he could see the eyes of Fengxue's mother looking at him with interest and a hint of worry; Leon had a thought.
While it wasn't necessary to accept this old fox's suggestion, he should at least save face for his in-law. After all, he was taking their precious daughter without their permission.
"Alright, I'll accept your duel but I have my conditions!" Leon voiced out and everyone looked at him with surprised eyes.
Even Fengxue was shocked.
"Master, are you sure? He's a level 4," Fengxue whispered to Leon, she wasn't in support of this.
Leon smiled at her and stroked her tail gently, causing Fengxue's body to quiver and her face to go red.
"It's all right; I know what I'm doing," Leon assured her, Fengxue nodded and gave a muffled response.
'Her tails sure are sensitive,' Leon sighed inwardly and continued to stroke her tails.
"Feel free to state your conditions, we'll accept it if it's reasonable," the old fox replied, a sly grin plastered on his face.
He concluded that Leon had already accepted his doom by agreeing to the duel; there was no condition he could bring that would help him defeat a level 4-ranked beast.
Fengxue's father also shook his head. In his opinion, Leon was too inexperienced and had rashly accepted the duel after being provoked. Only Fengxue's mother looked at him with concern.
"I'll accept the duel, but the fight will be held one year from now; I'll come to the fox clan with Fengxue in twelve months, and we'll settle this." Leon proposed.
The reason why he postponed the duel to next year was that he was confident of reaching the 4th level and even passing it before that time; he would put all his strength into training once he returned to the sect.
The old fox was first stunned by Leon's proposal, he smiled shortly after.
"If that's what you want, then we'll accept it; don't don't make us look for you ourselves." He nodded.
The young fox had a sinister expression as he stared at Leon like a dead person, he was obviously planning to do something bad to Leon during their duel.
" Since we've come to an agreement, we'll part here and wait for twelve months to pass. Fengxue, let's go back to the clan together." Fengxue's father said with a tired expression.
Fengxue hesitated, she wasn't willing to part with Leon.
" Hold up, that wasn't part of our agreement. Fengxue will continue to follow me until the time of the duel, how do I know that you won't force her to go with this ugly Fox? Besides, I don't know the way to your fox clan, I'll need her to lead the way when the time comes." Leon voiced out while pointing at the young fox.
The latter was enraged to be called ugly and he almost coughed blood. His looks weren't bad at all; Leon was just slightly more good-looking than him; what right did he have to call him ugly?
"Don't make it more difficult, how will you know that you won't hide in the falcon sect and refuse to show up if Fengxue is with you? We'll only be sure that you will come if Fengxue follows us. And you don't have to worry; Fengxue is our daughter, and we won't push her too hard. Besides, no one can force her to do what she doesn't want to.
As for the matter of direction, come to the Broken Sword Town in twelve months, we'll send someone to bring you over." fengxue's father said.
Leon paused and looked at Fengxue. The latter hugged him and shook her head, saying that she didn't want to go with her parents.
"I don't want to leave Master!"
Fengxue's father frowned.
What a rebellious daughter he had, choosing a stranger over her family.
Leon sighed; he could understand what Fengxue's father was going through. He had been reincarnated as a parent before but died on his daughter's wedding day where he slipped on a piece of cake on the ground.
'Let's ignore the tragic part, the point was that he had felt sad about his daughter marrying someone and leaving them!'

"Why don't you return first? I'll persuade Fengxue to come later, I promise." Leon suggested.
Fengxue's father, the old fox, and his grandson frowned; they didn't like what Leon said.
"But…" Fengxue's father wanted to say something but Leon cut him off.
" This is my bottom line, or I can just go back to my sect with her and you'll never see her again!" Leon said strongly.
Their words immediately died in their throats and none of them dared to say a word for a while.
"Sigh, all right then. I hope you keep your promise, let's go." Fengxue's father breathed and said to his wife before turning around to leave.
The young fox stared at Leon and Fengxue with reluctance for a few seconds before turning around as well, Fengxue's mother was last to leave.
She smiled at Fengxue before looking at Leon and mouthing "Thank you" to him.
Leon was confused by her action and couldn't understand why she would thank him. He looked at Fengxue and saw her looking at her mother's back with a sad expression.
Only after asking did Fengxue tell him that her mother had been against the idea of her marrying the young fox but her father was unable to do anything since the young fox's family was pressuring them and threatening them with the other fox families in the clan.
They were all greedy and wanted Fengxue's talent in their families, but the young man's family was the strongest, so the others had no choice but to support them to pressure Fengxue's family.
"Why is their family the strongest?" Leon couldn't help but ask. Fengxue's parents were level 6, just like the old fox, so how could he pressure them?
"They have five level 6 in their family, only my parents and I are level 6 in our family," Fengxue explained.
" Oh, I see." Leon nodded.
" Master…"
Fengxue suddenly called out to him, Leon's gaze snapped and he looked at her. He was stunned to see her tearful face; he was flustered.
" What! Why are you crying?" Leon asked as he quickly wiped the tears off her face.
" Do…do I really need to go back? I want to follow Master!" Fengxue expressed.
Leon sighed and patted her head.
" I know it's hard but you have to, for your mother's sake, I promise to come for you in a year." Leon comforted her.
" Promise?" She looked into his eyes and asked, Leon nodded.
Fengxue's expression brightened a bit and she hugged Leon, pressing her body against his. She pulled back after a while and suddenly pulled Leon from the ground, carrying him in a princess carry style.
Leon "..."
"Come, let's go to the town quickly. I want to do it with Master one more time before I go back!" Fengxue said while licking her lips and looking at Leon with light in squinted eyes. Her tails moved around, and her fox ears twitched.
Leon felt very unsafe under her gaze, but more importantly…
"Put me down! I don't consent to being carried like this, we can go back to the town normally!" Leon shouted.
It was day, and everywhere was already so bright. Wouldn't he lose all of his dignity if Fengxue pulled up at the town while carrying him like this?!
