Chapter 316: No Matter What I Do, Nothing Changes...
Tears continued to flow down Eva's cheeks as she lay there curled up on the floor. It felt like her heart had shattered into pieces and left her feeling empty inside.
All this time, she thought James loved her just as much as she loved him, that he would do anything for her. But now, it was clear he didn't give a damn about the pain she felt every time he rejected her. He only cared about following his family's rules.
And that hurt more than anything else ever could. It made Eva realize that she didn't matter as much to James as she had believed. She wasn't the most important person in his life. No, instead of her, his stupid beliefs mattered more than she did.
'He should love me... He should think of me before anyone else. If he wants me to be his life partner and spend the rest of my life with him, then why does he keep rejecting me like this? This isn't right.' She thought as she tried to wipe away her tears, but they kept streaming out of her eyes, making it impossible for her to stop crying. 'And how can he walk away from me while I'm crying my heart out... Does he even care about me anymore...?'
As these questions ran through Eva's mind, her phone suddenly rang, alerting her to an incoming call. At first, she ignored it, not wanting to talk to anyone, but it kept ringing until it annoyed her enough to answer.
"What do you want?" She asked angrily, not bothering to check the caller ID, but when no one replied, she repeated herself louder. "I said, what the fuck do you want?! If you aren't going to talk, then why are you calling me?!"
"Ohh! So scary." A familiar, teasing voice answered from the other side, startling Eva so much that she almost dropped her phone. "You know that I hate being shouted at, my dear daughter. Why don't you be a good girl and lower your tone? After all, you're talking to the woman who brought you into this world."
"M-Mom? I didn't realize that it was you calling. S-Sorry about that." Eva apologized, embarrassed by her outburst and wiping her tears with the back of her hand. "B-But what do you want? I told you that I would be out for a few days, didn't I? So, I don't know why you would be calling me."
"Well, I am aware of that, Eva, but I found out that my darling Lucifer is also with you on this trip. So I wanted to talk to him. Yet, no matter how many times I called, he didn't answer, hence why I am calling you instead." Sasha chuckled before continuing. "However, when I heard your voice... It seemed like something happened to you. Your voice was trembling, and your words came out angry and full of frustration. I know you are not the kind of person to cry easily, so would you tell me what's wrong?"
"I don't want to talk about it, Mom..." Eva answered as she hugged her knees against her chest. "And besides... how did you know that Lucifer was coming with us on the trip? Are you spying on him or something?"
"Eva, dear... Don't you think you're being a bit rude, accusing your mother of stalking your cousin like that?" Sasha asked in a hurt tone. "But, well... I guess you could see it that way, considering I was looking at his social media posts. But it wasn't because I'm some crazy stalker or anything. It's just... I missed him."
Eva sighed at her mother's words and shook her head. She knew her mom well enough to know that she wasn't telling her the entire truth, but she wasn't in the mood for games or pointless conversations like that right now, so she decided not to press any further.
However, Sasha wasn't satisfied with letting the matter go, and after a short pause, she spoke again, her voice tinged with worry. "Eva... Something did happen, didn't it? Why don't you tell your mother what's wrong?"
Eva sighed and hesitated a bit before she replied, wondering if it was even worth talking about her problems with her mom when nothing would change. But then again, she remembered that sometimes it felt good to have someone listen to you and share their opinion, so why not give it a try? Explore more stories with My Virtual Library Empire
"It's just... It's just that James is being stubborn and unreasonable." Eva said in a hushed tone, and Sasha could hear the sadness in her voice as if the young woman was about to cry again. "He keeps rejecting me at every turn, and it's so frustrating that I don't know what to do anymore..."
"What do you mean by that?" Sasha frowned at her daughter's words. She knew that her daughter had been going out with James for quite a while, but she didn't know much else about their relationship since Eva had always kept it private. "You need to be clearer."
Sighing once more, Eva started explaining everything to her mother, from how things first began between them. Then she moved on to explaining the current situation, where he had turned down her advances yet again. By the time she finished, tears were streaming down her cheeks.
"I just wanted him to show me some affection and love... That's all! Yet, he didn't even think about it twice and refused me, like always..." Eva cried as she buried her face in her arms, letting herself sob into them. "I really tried this time to get what I wanted from him. But no matter what I do, nothing changes... It only ever seems to get worse..."
After hearing all that, Sasha remained quiet for a few moments before she spoke up once again, her tone cold and distant, which surprised Eva. "Eva, are you really my daughter? Have I raised a weak and pathetic little girl like you who would let a man step all over her feelings like this?"
