Chapter 354: Teleported Away!
"Mum, look!" a young boy of seven shouted as he pointed at the sky.
The mother, holding onto the little boy's hand, halted her steps and turned to look where her son was pointing. Her eyes widened slightly as she saw the sky was slowly turning pitch black.
Far away, streaks of lightning could be seen dancing violently across the thick clouds. But that wasn't what truly caught her attention—it was something else.
"Hang on," a male passerby muttered as he turned around to glance toward the horizon. "I thought there were seven houses in the good district?"
"Yes," another man replied.
"Then why can I only see five standing?"
"I feel like something terrible is going on," a woman added nervously.
"Wait... who are those?" someone pointed at a small family—a man, a woman, and their two young daughters—running toward them in a panic.
"What's going on? Why are you all running?"
"Do… does… does anybody know where the town lord is?" the father of the little family asked, huffing and panting in exhaustion, sweat dripping down his brow.
"What is it? What do you want with him?"
"He needs to get down here fast, and with his town mages—because Grey has gone rogue, fighting a shadow man!" the mother said breathlessly.
"Grey? You mean the multi-elementalist from our town?"
"Yes! And he's going berserk against an attacker."
"Crap! No wonder the houses in the better districts don't look co—" The man's voice trailed off as his eyes widened. Everyone spun around in unison and saw it—
Houses were crumbling one by one as deafening explosions and thundering bangs echoed through the distance.
The ground trembled as if an earthquake had been unleashed. Shockwaves surged outward from the heart of the destruction, reaching the main parts of the town.
"Ahhh!" a man was heard yelling as his body bounced hard against the ground, his masked face bleeding, along with his arms. His entire frame was battered and bruised.
"Curse that annoying boy!" the assassin muttered under his breath as he hurriedly glanced around, eyes darting through the debris and chaos.
In the distance, his gaze landed on an open area—an empty patch of land, likely unused.
'I need to get out of here. There's no way I can fight against that monster… not with my mana drained like this,' he thought in panic as he bolted toward the empty space. The civilians nearby screamed and scrambled away at the sight of him.
Quickly crouching down, he wiped his index finger against his own blood and began drawing cryptic symbols and runes onto the ground.
'This will take at most two minutes… but I don't feel like I have that luxury,' the assassin thought, gritting his teeth.
He was right.
BOOM!
A thunderous crash came from the sky as a figure shot downward, surrounded by bolts of lightning that struck around him like judgment from the heavens. The raw force of his descent cracked the very ground.
His clothes were partly torn, blood dripped from his head, nose, and mouth. But still, he stood strong. His eyes—both pitch white and blazing red—burned with power. Lightning crackled around his hands, forming into the shape of a sword.
"Don't run away from me!" Grey roared as he leapt into the air, electricity wrapping his entire body like armor, his sword raised high above his head.
The assassin spun around, and his eyes locked with the furious, airborne Grey.
'Damn it!' he cursed inwardly. Quickly, he waved his hand through the air, opening a shadow portal in front of him—desperate to swallow Grey with it. Another portal opened beside him, allowing his arm to swing through, aiming to strike Grey's head with a brutal smash.
But instead of landing a clean hit—
CLANG!
His hand was met with the fierce resistance of Grey's lightning-forged sword. A mini shockwave erupted, tearing through the town square and sending nearby stalls and debris flying.
"That won't get me again!" Grey growled as he twisted mid-air and swung his foot—now encased in dense, hardened earth—forward.
CRACK!
The powerful kick smashed into the assassin's stomach with bone-crushing force, causing him to cough up blood as his body was launched backward, skidding violently across the ground.
"Wind Magic: Aerius!" Grey called out, and immediately, a huge gust of wind shot forth—almost at the speed of light.
It lifted the assassin into the air before he could do anything, and in the very next second, he was slammed back down with earth-shaking force.
Directly above him, lightning arrows shimmered into existence like glowing javelins of divine wrath. Without warning, they shot downward, aiming for where the assassin lay.
"F*ck!" the assassin cursed as he quickly sunk into the shadows just in time.
The lightning arrows smashed into the ground, erupting on impact and creating a deep crater, sending a massive plume of dust into the air.
The thick dust cloud swallowed up everything in a five-meter radius, blinding even those watching from a distance.
Using the obscuring dust to his advantage, the assassin reappeared behind Grey and smashed a heavy fist down on his head with all the strength he could gather. The force sent the boy skidding across the ground, bouncing with brutal impact.
'I can't waste time here. It looks like he's learning and adapting as the fight drags on. I need to leave now,' the assassin thought, eyes narrowed in urgency. He snapped his fingers, unleashing fifty shadow swords that tore through the air toward Grey.
"That should keep him busy for some time," the assassin mumbled as he darted back toward the empty space he had prepared earlier.
Without hesitation, he resumed drawing the complex symbols and arcane shapes he had started before the interruption.
His fingers moved with shaky precision. With every passing second, he drew more blood from his open wounds, smearing it onto the ground as he meticulously formed the ritual circle.
Meanwhile, Grey was forced to evade the lethal blades—shadow swords that phased through any magical barrier he threw up.
'I guess there's only one thing to do…' Grey thought grimly.
Lightning coiled around his feet, forming a blazing pair of elemental boots. With a deafening bang, he exploded into motion, zigzagging at insane speed to dodge the shadow swords.
He managed to evade several fatal hits, but the swords still slashed into his arms, legs, shoulders, back, and even grazed his stomach. Blood leaked from the wounds, slowing him down—but he endured. He endured because he had to.
"Finally done," the assassin muttered, a satisfied grin creeping across his shadowy face. "Time to leave here and come back to fight another day."
All that remained was to channel mana into the circle and activate it. He raised his glowing palm.
"I won't let you go so easily!" Grey roared in both pain and fury.
Lightning bolts rained from above, slamming into him and lifting his body with sheer force. In that moment, Grey wasn't just wielding lightning—he became lightning.
With a sonic boom, he shot forward like a living bolt and slammed into the assassin. The two of them tumbled violently across the ritual circle.
Unknowingly, one of Grey's lightning-charged bolts struck a key symbol in the circle, warping it. At the same time, as the assassin struggled and flailed, his hand smeared another shape on the ground, disrupting the formation further.
"Shit!" the assassin growled. Pure mana flared around his palm as he tried to stabilize the circle by forcing it to activate.
"I'm not done with you, you murderer!" Grey bellowed. He lifted his hand into the air and brought it down like thunder, unleashing a lightning arrow at point-blank range.
BAM!
Just as the circle activated, the lightning arrow struck—engulfing both Grey and the assassin in a blinding burst of light.
'Where's that damn thing?!' the assassin screamed in his mind as he fumbled through his pockets.
Finally, his fingers brushed against a hidden object—a device. He activated it, hoping it would stabilize his escape.
But it was already too late.
The lightning arrow had detonated, and right at that moment, the teleportation portal flared to life—swirling an ominous black. Energy from the sky, the circle, and the device all clashed in chaotic harmony.
"I won't let you go!" Grey shouted as he drove his lightning-clad fist into the assassin's face, drawing a spray of blood.
Suddenly, something deep within Grey reacted.
His core surged.
Lightning from the sky, the assassin's device, and the broken circle all combined—and the ring locked around Grey's finger, dormant for years, finally awakened.
A radiant gray light burst out from the ring.
The portal that had been swirling black changed color in an instant—becoming a luminous gray vortex—and with a single, final pull, it swallowed both Grey and the assassin whole.
They vanished.
In the town square, where terrified civilians had hidden behind crates, carts, and stone walls to avoid being caught in the mayhem, silence fell.
"Wait… where is Grey?!" someone finally shouted, stepping out into the open.
All that remained was devastation: smoldering craters, shattered walls, and a massive, burning hole where the fierce battle had reached its climax.
"I… I think he just got teleported away," another whispered, staring at the broken battlefield in awe and horror. "Only the heavens know where."
