Chapter 18: I got married
The moment Joanne stepped into Indigo Design, all eyes turned to her.
She ignored the stares, walking confidently toward her desk. But before she could even sit down—
"JOANNE!"
A blur of excitement rushed toward her, and before she knew it, Diana had grabbed her hand.
"Oh. My. God." Diana's eyes were practically bulging. "What is this?!"
Joanne followed her gaze and sighed.
The ring.
The custom-made diamond ring Alexander had given her sparkled under the office lights. It was a masterpiece—exquisitely designed, unique, and clearly very expensive.
Diana gasped dramatically. "This isn't just any ring… This is a wedding ring!"
Joanne sighed. "Diana, not here—"
"Nope. Restroom. Now."
Before Joanne could protest, Diana grabbed her wrist and dragged her away.
—
Inside the Restroom
Diana crossed her arms, her eyes gleaming with curiosity. "Talk. Now."
Joanne exhaled, leaning against the sink. There was no escaping this.
"I got married," she admitted.
Diana's jaw dropped. "YOU WHAT?!"
Joanne quickly clamped a hand over her mouth. "Shh! Not so loud!"
Diana shook her off. "How do you expect me to stay quiet when you just said that?! Who did you marry? And why didn't I know about it?!"
Joanne hesitated before finally saying, "It was a contract marriage."
Diana's excitement turned into confusion. "A what?"
Joanne sighed. "Jason dumped me at the altar. My father threatened to cut me off, and my mom's medical bills were piling up. That night, I met someone, and I made a deal with him."
Diana frowned. "What kind of deal?"
Joanne took a deep breath.
"I married Alexander King."
Diana froze.
Silence filled the restroom.
Then, finally—
"You… you're telling me that you married Alexander King?!"
Joanne nodded slowly.
Diana let out a scream so loud the entire office probably heard.
