Chapter 53: Let her play her little game
Sophia leaned back on her velvet chair, her lips curling into a satisfied smirk.
The Monroe family was in shambles.
Peter Monroe had broken the engagement, and Jason was probably somewhere sulking like the fool he was.
But Sophia?
She wasn't worried.
If anything, this was the perfect opportunity.
With Jason out of the way, she could focus entirely on Alexander.
"Joanne is nothing. She's just temporary," Sophia murmured to herself, adjusting the diamond bracelet on her wrist.
Alexander would get bored of her.
A man like him didn't settle for a single woman.
Sophia was convinced that the marriage between Joanne and Alexander was a business deal, nothing more.
And if it was just a contract marriage, then Joanne was disposable.
Sophia stood up, her heels clicking against the marble floor as she walked toward her floor-to-ceiling window.
Her reflection stared back at her, a beautiful, ambitious woman who had always gotten what she wanted.
And now, she wanted Alexander King.
She would make him see that she was the only woman truly fit to stand by his side.
At the King multinational
Alexander sat in his office, his fingers tapping lightly against the armrest of his chair.
Frederick stood nearby, his expression neutral as he delivered the latest updates.
"The Monroe family is still trying to recover," Frederick reported. "Peter Monroe has cut off all negotiations with the Bakers."
Alexander gave a slight nod, completely unbothered.
That was expected.
Jason Monroe had been stupid enough to chase after Joanne. He had been warned, yet he didn't listen.
And in Alexander's world, mistakes had consequences.
"What about Sophia Baker?" Alexander finally asked, his voice calm but cold.
Frederick hesitated for a second before answering, "She's been quiet, but I doubt she's given up. She still won't believe you care for the Madam enough to help her."
Alexander's eyes darkened slightly.
So, Sophia thought Joanne was just a temporary distraction?
Interesting.
Frederick continued, "She's planning something, but we haven't uncovered what yet. Should we keep watching her?"
Alexander let out a low chuckle, his fingers now tapping slowly against his desk.
"Let her play her little game."
He wasn't worried about Sophia.
She was insignificant.
What amused him, though, was how people continued to underestimate his wife.
They thought Joanne was weak, replaceable.
They had no idea.
