Chapter 143: Peaceful Town

The silver-sailed ship slowed down its speed and came to a gentle stop by the harbor. The anchor plopped into the water with a splash and reached the bottom in no time.

The gangplank came down, and then, two couples disembarked.

Daphne and Julian wore sunglasses and had their arms around each other in a loving embrace. They truly looked like they were on a romantic vacation.

After changing out of their pirate clothes, Daphne was now wearing a light blue sundress with a wide-brimmed straw hat, and Julian was wearing a white linen button-up shirt and khaki shorts.

The sundress showed Daphne's slim figure, and the hat made her radiant smile even more charming.

She was quite pale for someone who was born and raised in a place that was known for its hot and sunny weather.

Julian smiled as he walked down the gangplank with Daphne. He let his short, white hair move along with the wind that was carrying the scent of saltwater and exotic flowers.

Behind them, Wren and Kiernan had their hands interlocked as they stepped off the ship and looked around the harbor with wide eyes, taking in the sights of the bustling marketplace.

Wren was dressed in a flowing white dress with intricate embroidery, while Kiernan sported a simple linen shirt and trousers.

The flowing white dress wasn't something that Wren bought. It was something that they happened to steal from one of their plundering trips.

She didn't want to wear it, but it was a must, as it made her look more sweet and innocent.

"In the three o'clock,"

Wren leaned closer to Kiernan, looking like she was kissing him in the ear but actually just whispering.

Kiernan glanced in that direction and saw a round-bellied man heading in their way. There was a brown pouch dangling from his waist belt and a satchel slung across his shoulder.

Julian and Daphne also came to a stop, turning around to face the harbor master, who wasn't going to just let them enter without proper identification first.

"Welcome to Letzer Island!" The harbor master greeted them with a smile. "If I may ask, what's your reason for the visit?"

"I, and my sister, decided to go on a vacation with our boyfriends~" Wren smiled sweetly. "We heard so many great things about this place, we just couldn't resist."

"Alrighty," the harbor master glanced between the two couples, a tinge of jealousy growing in his heart, and he then nodded. "May I receive some identification first?"

Kiernan and Julian nodded in agreement and reached for their wallets. They took out their identification cards and showed them to the harbor master.

"You two as well," the harbor master looked at the two young women.

"Well, you see, my babe here," Wren pinched Kiernan's cheek and smiled. "Forgot to bring my wallet before we left. We had to leave in such a hurry, and I only realized when we were already on the boat."

"Yes, silly me." Kiernan said with a very forced smile.

Wren giggled, unable to resist laughing after seeing his expression.

"What is your name then?"

"Silvia Nightwave~"

"What about you?" The harbor master asked from Daphne.

"Here~" Daphne handed him her identification card with a sheepish smile.

The picture looked like hers, but the name was wrong. It had a name of Amelia Stone. It was a fake identification card that she had purchased from Pirate Kingdom a while back.

The harbor master didn't find anything wrong with it and nodded. He then took out his tablet and went through the bounty posters to see if those names had any matches.

However, after a few minutes of searching, he couldn't find anything.

"Alright, I'll let you enter this one time." The harbor master said to Wren. "However, there are places in the World Seas that will never let you enter without showing proper identification. Next time, don't forget it, please."

"Thank you~" Wren said with a huge smile and then walked away with Kiernan by her side.

"A fake ID?" Julian looked at Daphne with surprise while following behind her.

"I bought it just in case," Daphne moved her hair over her ear. "In Pirate Kingdom, you can purchase anything as long as you have the money for it."

The corners of Julian's mouth curled upwards into a smile.

While walking down the rock-tiled road, they arrived at the town. It was quite small, but the streets were kind of narrow, and most of the buildings were two or three stories high.

The buildings were built on either brown or red brick. The roofs were tilted, and most had chimneys. The windows were quite hazy, but they added to the cozy, rustic charm of the town.

The main street of the town led to the town square. It had a single tree in the middle of it all. A wooden fence encircled it to protect it. The road was also made from rock, and the town square was circled with shops and inns.

The townspeople all had smiles on their faces. It looked like they really enjoyed living here.

Among them, navy soldiers with rifles slung over their shoulders toured the town with a watchful eye. However, none of them looked overly serious and usually stopped to talk with the townsfolk.

It was a very peaceful place, and none of them had any need for the rifles yet.

"Well then, babe~" Wren leaned closer to Kiernan to whisper into his ear. "Where is our treasure?"

Kiernan rummaged through his pocket, took out a map, and then, with a frown, looked ahead towards the tree in the town square.

At that moment, a small chuckle escaped his lips as he noticed that there was a carved X-mark on the tree. It looked like someone had fun marking the spot.

"There," Kiernan pointed to the tree. "If I had to guess, the treasure chest is right below the tree."

"Oh, that's just great." Julian pinched his forehead. "How can we get the treasure without alerting everyone in here?"

"You sure chose a good place, babe~" Wren smiled at Kiernan. "What next? Do we have to steal a key to the treasure chest from Navy Admiral next?"

"Don't jinx it, babe…" Kiernan said coldly with gritted teeth. "Let's wait for nightfall. Maybe the town is dead silent by then."
