Chapter 20: Destroyer's Rampage, Thor's Return, Adam's Subtle Aid

The small town in New Mexico was about to become ground zero for an interdimensional beatdown. The Destroyer, a hulking, metallic monstrosity, sent by Loki, descended from the sky, a silent, terrifying harbinger of doom. Adam, watching from a rooftop, felt the familiar dread mixed with the thrill of impending action.

"Alright, Destroyer. You're big, you're shiny, and you're about to get a taste of some good old-fashioned human ingenuity. And by 'human ingenuity,' I mean my nanotech-powered chaos. Sorry, Coulson, but your day is about to get a whole lot worse."

Below, S.H.I.E.L.D. agents, led by a very brave but very outmatched Coulson, tried to stand their ground. Thor, stripped of his powers, stood defiant, ready to sacrifice himself. Jane Foster and her team were caught in the crossfire.

"Skye, Jemma, I need eyes on that thing!" Adam barked into his comms. "Jemma, any weaknesses? Skye, can you disrupt its energy signature?"

"It's pure Asgardian tech, Adam!" Jemma exclaimed, her voice tight with excitement. "The energy output is immense! It's like a walking, talking Arc Reactor, but with a lot more… evil!"

"I'm trying to get a lock on its control signal, boss!" Skye replied, her fingers flying. "But it's heavily shielded! This isn't Hammer tech, that's for sure!"

Adam knew the Destroyer was unstoppable by conventional means. It was designed to force Thor to regain his worthiness. But he could make the process a little less… destructive for the town.

He activated his Teleportation, appearing in the street, unseen, just as the Destroyer unleashed a devastating energy blast. He focused, a surge of power building in his palms.

[Force Fields activated. Target: Energy Blast. Effect: Redirection.]

A shimmering, invisible barrier flared, not stopping the blast, but subtly redirecting it, sending it harmlessly into an abandoned building instead of a populated street. The building crumbled, but no civilians were harmed.

"You're welcome, New Mexico," Adam muttered, already moving.

He saw Coulson, bravely trying to distract the Destroyer, his voice booming over the comms. Adam decided to give him a little extra… motivation.

He focused on the Destroyer's head, where its energy blast originated.

[Illusions & Holograms activated. Target: Optic Nerves. Effect: Googly Eyes.]

For a split second, the Destroyer's menacing, glowing face shimmered, then appeared to have two massive, comical googly eyes stuck onto it. It was gone in an instant, but Coulson, who was looking directly at it, blinked, then shook his head, convinced he was hallucinating under stress.

"Sir, are you alright?" a bewildered agent asked.

"Fine! Just… keep firing!" Coulson snapped, trying to regain his composure.

Adam chuckled. "Never underestimate the power of a well-placed googly eye. It really takes the intimidation factor down a notch."

He saw Thor, bravely standing before the Destroyer, ready to die. And then, the moment. The hammer. Mjolnir. It flew through the air, returning to Thor's hand. Lightning flashed. Thor's powers returned, his armor shimmering into existence.

Thor, now the mighty God of Thunder, unleashed his fury on the Destroyer. Lightning bolts slammed into the metallic automaton, sending it reeling. Adam watched, a genuine sense of awe washing over him. This was what it was all about.

He continued to subtly aid Thor, using Energy Blasts to weaken the Destroyer's armor, creating openings for Thor's hammer. He used Teleportation to move civilians out of harm's way, a blur of motion unseen by the battling giants.

Finally, with a mighty blow, Thor shattered the Destroyer, sending its pieces scattering across the desert. The threat was neutralized. The town was saved.

Adam watched as Thor embraced Jane Foster, a hero reborn. He saw Coulson, looking utterly exhausted but relieved.

"Alright, Thor. You're officially back in the game. And now, the Avengers Initiative is really going to kick into high gear. And I, Adam Stiels, will be there. Probably with more Jell-O."

He teleported away, leaving the S.H.I.E.L.D. agents to clean up the mess. The world was safe. For now. And Adam had just helped save it, one prank and one power-up at a time.
