Chapter 13: CHAPTER 13
The ogre had broken free and tried desperately to kill Ragna, but his efforts were in vain. Ragna demonstrated his overwhelming strength and completely crushed him.
The rare and spectacular fight left the entire arena audience momentarily stunned. Then, a deafening roar erupted.
"Sun God! Sun God!"
Valina smiled, opening another bottle of the most expensive wine. At the same time, she felt a wave of relief wash over her. Once again, she had won a fortune.
Among the audience was the scarred fighter who had mocked Ragna earlier. For fighters like him, understanding the strength of potential opponents was crucial.
"Maybe he really can become the champion," the scarred fighter thought, his expression complicated. "Next time he fights, I'll bet on him."
"Wonderful! What a fantastic fight!" the Grandmaster exclaimed, clapping enthusiastically, his face beaming with joy.
"I like him a lot. He could be our new champion!"
"You said the same thing yesterday after watching the Ogre fight," Topaz, the strong and stout woman beside the Grandmaster, remarked calmly.
"Did I? You must be misremembering. Yes, that's it!" the Grandmaster replied, winking at Topaz. She sighed and shook her head, choosing not to argue.
---
After ten consecutive victories in the bloody battles, Ragna had earned the right to challenge for the championship. Without hesitation, he submitted his application to the arena.
The championship battle was scheduled for the following day.
At the Grandmaster's command, the entire city of Saka launched a massive promotional campaign for the fight, declaring it a rare and genuine championship showdown.
*The Grandmaster loves his entertainment!*
The championship battle began as scheduled. No one dared to interfere with Ragna before the match—everything was under the Grandmaster's control.
"Sun God! Sun God!"
"Champion! Champion! Champion!"
Ragna had far more supporters than before, thanks to his extraordinary display of strength against the ogre. However, compared to the battle-hardened reigning champion, the Desert Death God, his fanbase was still vastly outnumbered.
"Damn, there are always so few who recognize true talent," Ragna muttered, waving to Valina in the audience.
Valina, sipping Saka's most expensive wine, waved back enthusiastically, cheering for Ragna. This time, she hadn't placed any bets. Once Ragna became champion, they would leave this place for good.
The Grandmaster stood on the high platform, watching the two with glee. He grabbed a microphone and addressed the crowd excitedly:
"I can guarantee this will be an exhilarating fight!"
"This is a true championship battle!"
"I'm thrilled!"
"Let the battle begin! Go on, kill him!"
"Ahhhhhh!"
The entire arena erupted into chaos as the battle between Ragna and the Desert Death God commenced.
The reigning champion, the Desert Death God, was a formidable sheep-headed demon!
As soon as the Grandmaster announced the start of the battle, the Desert Death God charged toward Ragna without hesitation. He had been closely studying Ragna's fight with the ogre. Both opponents were no weaker than him, and Ragna's Solar Flare technique posed a serious threat. If he were hit directly by that attack, it would mean instant death.
The Desert Death God's body wasn't much stronger than the two-headed ogre's, so his strategy was clear: maintain high speed, close the distance immediately, and prevent Ragna from unleashing his Solar Flare.
The sheep-headed demon was roughly the same size as Ragna, but the wings flapping rapidly behind him were far from decorative. Wielding a massive death scythe, the Desert Death God launched a relentless assault from all directions—sky and ground alike.
Afterimages of the sheep-headed demon flickered around Ragna, making it seem as though dozens of demons were attacking him simultaneously. It was a dazzling, deadly dance.
The clash of weapons and the sparks flying from their collisions filled the air as Ragna's two-handed sword met the death scythe in a series of violent impacts. Ragna had deliberately switched to a more durable weapon after his one-handed sword proved inadequate.
The battle had reached a fever pitch from the very beginning.
The audience watched in stunned silence, their eyes wide as they followed the intense fight in the arena.
"Is this what a real championship fight looks like?"
"Too strong… way too strong!"
"How can anyone hope to become champion? It's impossible!"
Some fighters in the audience muttered to themselves, their confidence shattered. While they might not fully grasp the intricacies of powerful energy attacks, the sheer speed and strength on display were enough to leave them in awe—and despair.
After a while, Ragna grew impatient with the endless skirmish. The Desert Death God wasn't necessarily stronger than the two-headed ogre, but his incredible speed forced Ragna into a defensive position. Constantly blocking rapid attacks from all directions was no easy task.
During the demon's latest strike, Ragna deliberately held back five-tenths of his strength. Using the momentum of the sheep-headed demon's attack, he retreated dozens of steps, creating some distance between them.
The sheep-headed demon didn't pursue him immediately. Maintaining such high-speed attacks had taken a toll on him as well. More importantly, his relentless assault hadn't yielded any significant results, so he needed a new strategy.
The brief pause in the arena allowed the audience to catch their breath after the intense fighting.
The Grandmaster was the first to break the silence, clapping enthusiastically. Soon, the arena erupted with thunderous cheers once more!
