Chapter 20: Chapter 20 – Wang Ye: I Will Lead the Charge!
"James Barnes and Steve's relationship, you know about it, right?
I heard he'll be coming to the front lines soon for a morale-boosting performance. We'll wait until he gets here to tell him about this."
Wang Ye suddenly spoke while looking at the sand table.
Colonel Phillips nodded. He didn't know about this, but since Wang Ye said it, he'd go along with it.
Rubbing his chin, Wang Ye thought for a moment, then picked up the command baton and pointed to three Hydra bases.
"Based on the current battle situation you've reported, here, here, and here, three Hydra camps recently mobilized a lot of troops. Most of them have now been transferred to this main battlefield to engage our forces.
So right now, their rear bases are at their weakest and most vulnerable. If we dispatch a special force to circle and destroy their bases, cutting off their supplies.
Then their frontline troops won't last long and will be encircled and wiped out by our forces!"
"We've thought of this approach before.
But reconnaissance reports show that the areas around Hydra camps are heavily fortified with weapons and bunkers.
A reckless assault would only lead to greater losses, and alerting the enemy would make future operations much harder!"
Colonel Phillips stepped forward and presented the latest photos and intelligence reports from scouts.
Wang Ye took the intel, glanced through it, and found that it was just as Phillips had said, the Hydra bases were practically impenetrable. But then he smiled slightly and said,
"A surprise attack values quality over quantity. The more people involved, the easier it is to be discovered.
I'll go myself and lead a 10-man special assault team. Once we're near the camp, we'll launch a surprise raid!"
"You're going to the front lines?
No way that's too dangerous!
The weapons they use are unlike anything we've ever seen, and they're extremely powerful. Even my elite troops have suffered major losses!
You absolutely cannot act rashly!"
Colonel Phillips immediately rejected the idea.
Hydra's weapons were too bizarre, like something from another era entirely. He couldn't let Wang Ye, the Director of S.H.I.E.L.D., take such a risk.
"You made the mistake, you should fix it. Since I'm here, I'm going to act. Or do you want to take your old bones to the front lines instead?
I've made my decision. Don't try to talk me out of it!"
Wang Ye's gaze hardened as he stared into Colonel Phillips' eyes, making the latter unable to meet his gaze.
Faced with such a resolute and commanding Wang Ye, the Colonel had no choice but to reluctantly nod in agreement.
"Attention! At ease! Eyes right! Eyes forward!"
Colonel Phillips and Wang Ye stood before ten battle-hardened elite soldiers.
"Captain Wang Ye, I'm leaving them to you now!"
Wang Ye nodded and stepped forward. His aura suddenly shifted, and the soldiers instantly felt a chill run down their spines, as if they'd fallen into an icy pit.
They looked at this previously underestimated young officer in shock and fear.
"Very good. Allow me to introduce myself. I am Captain Wang Ye.
You may call me Captain Wang Ye. I'm now your direct superior.
I don't know or care about your past performance. I don't even want to know your names right now."
As Wang Ye spoke, he took another step forward, and his presence intensified further.
"From now on, number yourselves from left to right, 1 to 10. Remember your number.
You'll be following me on a mission with no support, no backup supplies. We'll rely solely on ourselves.
This mission will directly impact the outcome of the front-line battle!
If we succeed and make it back alive.
Then congratulations. You'll be heroes of the people, the finest soldiers, and role models for the entire army!
But at the same time, we may also fail and die in battle. If anyone wishes to back out, feel free to do so. There will be no punishment.
Alright, you have three seconds to decide. Those who are moving to the left. If you're out, stay where you are."
Almost the moment Wang Ye finished speaking, all the soldiers took a firm step to the left in unison.
"Very good!
You've made a smart choice.
Now go to logistics and collect your gear. Meet back here in five minutes. Dismissed!"
Watching Wang Ye give his speech and rally the troops, Colonel Phillips couldn't help but be amazed. At that moment, he felt as if Wang Ye had transformed into someone else—a commanding figure, cold and imposing, someone truly in a position of power!
Behind Enemy Lines
Hidden deep within a dense jungle was a massive, heavily fortified Hydra supply camp.
A tall, solid wall enclosed the entire camp, with only a single gate for entry and exit.
Two bunkers stood on either side of the gate, and four intimidating tanks guarded the entrance.
Suddenly, dozens of smoke grenades flew out of the jungle like raindrops, landing at the entrance of the Hydra camp.
Smoke billowed in all directions.
The Hydra soldiers' vision was completely obscured, and in their confusion, they could only fire blindly in all directions like headless chickens.
Before the smoke had even cleared, dozens of high-explosive grenades flew into the haze from the jungle.
Thunderous explosions erupted, and the chaos-stricken Hydra soldiers fell silent.
At that moment, Wang Ye, dressed in green camo combat gear, rushed out from the jungle, wielding an AK assault rifle, launching a solo assault on the camp.
The surviving Hydra soldiers near the gate, still stunned from the earlier bombing, were quickly gunned down by Wang Ye's deadly AK.
Upon reaching the bunkers, Wang Ye pulled two enhanced high-explosive grenades, provided by Howard, from his belt and threw one into each of the still-active bunkers.
As for the four tanks, they had already been turned into scrap metal during the earlier bombardment.
BOOM!
With a deafening roar, the bunkers crumbled under the enhanced grenades.
Having done all this, Wang Ye fired at the Hydra soldiers pouring out of the camp while simultaneously firing a signal flare.
As the bright signal flare soared into the sky, the ten soldiers who had been eagerly waiting in the jungle sprang into action the moment they saw it, weapons raised, charging while shouting:
"GAN LUO NIANG!!!"
