Chapter 180: Chapter 180: The Spear of Eternity and the Monument of Life
Alex Ray followed the Asgardian soldiers toward the treasure vault.
He knew there were many powerful relics stored within Asgard's vault—and quite a few were already in his possession.
The first was the Cosmic Cube, which he now held in his hand—the Space Stone.
Alex clearly remembered that the Cube originally belonged to Asgard but was hidden on Earth by Odin. It was later discovered by the Red Skull, who attempted to harness its energy for weaponry.
But the Cube was no simple tool. It transported Red Skull to Vormir, the resting place of the Soul Stone.
Eventually, the Cosmic Cube was recovered by S.H.I.E.L.D., and now it rested in Alex Ray's hands as one of his most prized assets.
Besides the Cube, Alex also knew of another treasure stored within the vault—the Eternal Flame. Odin had taken it from Surtur to prevent Ragnarok. The flame never extinguishes and was the source of Surtur's power.
In Thor: Ragnarok, Surtur used this flame to destroy Asgard.
However, Alex didn't care much. Whether Asgard was obliterated or not had little to do with him.
As he pondered the vault's contents, the familiar voice of the system echoed in his mind:
Ding—
Congratulations, host. Ancient One's friendship level has increased to two stars.
Congratulations, host. You have acquired Mirror Dimension magic.
Would you like to integrate it now?
Congratulations, host. Odin has successfully added you as a friend.
Congratulations, host. You have gained access to the Spear of Eternity!
Alex raised his brows, surprised but clearly pleased. This trip to Asgard had proven more fruitful than expected.
"Integrate immediately," he ordered mentally.
In the next moment, Alex felt the flow of new energy within him—he could now manipulate the Mirror Dimension, one of the skills he'd always desired.
What thrilled him even more was gaining the right to use Gungnir, the Eternal Spear.
In Asgard, this divine weapon held enormous prestige and immeasurable power.
Its tip was forged by Dwarven blacksmiths and etched with ancient runes—capable of piercing anything. Its shaft, made from branches of the World Tree, carried mysterious energy.
But what Alex valued most was its absurd ability—once thrown, it never missed and would return automatically to its owner.
That guaranteed-hit feature made Alex eager to test it—perhaps even on Thanos when the time came.
Before long, Alex arrived before the vault.
The guards posted here were leagues above the average Asgardian warrior.
Nearly all radiated power on Thor's level—and a few even emitted suppressed energy comparable to Captain Marvel's.
Yet beneath this strength, Alex sensed a faint air of decline.
He sighed inwardly. "No wonder Asgard used to dominate the Nine Realms. If Odin were still alive, Thanos would've had a serious problem. They've been hiding deep reserves of power."
Alex found himself thinking of Hell's Kitchen. Compared to Asgard, its forces were transparent: he was the strongest, followed by Magneto and Wanda. Still, others enhanced by his system weren't weak.
Of course, Alex didn't count Deadpool. That guy's abilities were... unpredictable. Sometimes he could solo the entire multiverse, other times he lost to a C-lister.
Hell's Kitchen also housed secret powerhouses—like the four turtles living in the sewers. Their strength was on par with typical superheroes.
And then there was one terrifying being—not human—who emanated an overwhelming presence. Alex knew this guy was a neutral observer who wouldn't interfere in anything.
He just quietly "ate popcorn" from the sidelines. Alex had long suspected he was an actual Watcher. Everyone pretended not to notice.
Alex had once considered recruiting others to help defend Hell's Kitchen, but no ideal candidates came to mind.
In the end, he'd have to rely on his system to keep enhancing their strength.
While he was lost in thought, one of the guards stepped forward. "You may enter—but you can only take one treasure."
Alex nodded silently and stepped into the vault.
The lighting inside was dim, but the first thing that caught his attention was a prominent gauntlet.
He'd seen similar items sold on shady websites back on Earth.
Curiously, he touched it. "Is this one of those fakes?"
In Thor: Ragnarok, Hela declared that the Infinity Gauntlet in Odin's vault was a counterfeit. Alex recalled that Thanos' Gauntlet was made for the left hand—this one was clearly for the right.
Yet as he inspected it, the gauntlet felt... authentic. Then again, he'd never seen the one Thanos used up close.
Alex considered socketing the Space Stone into it, but decided against it. If Odin saw the gem, things might get complicated.
He moved on.
Soon, something else caught his eye—a faintly glowing blue box.
It sat silently on its pedestal, exuding an ancient chill. The cold aura reminded him of a howling blizzard—sharp and merciless.
"This must be the Casket of Ancient Winters," he murmured.
A sacred artifact of the Frost Giants, it was said to have the power to freeze an entire planet in an instant.
Odin had taken it during his conquest of Jotunheim, along with Loki, and stored it here as a trophy.
Alex was deeply intrigued by this relic. He knew he would one day travel across various multiverses, and the Casket's freezing power could become a valuable asset.
Especially if he ever found himself in the Marvel Zombies universe—one blast could stop the spread entirely.
But after some thought, he decided against choosing it.
First, it played a significant role in the Avengers timeline. Second, when Loki eventually stole it, Alex could just snatch it from him. No need to waste his one choice here.
He withdrew his hand and kept exploring.
He passed the Destroyer armor—the sentient mech Thor had once faced—and the Orb of Agamotto, known to detect threats and magical signatures across realms.
None of it truly interested him.
Until he spotted the Monument of Life.
This stone tablet, rumored to originate from the lost city of Atlantis, was engraved with an evolutionary equation of life itself. Legend claimed that whoever solved it would unlock both supreme combat strength and limitless wisdom.
It was an irresistible lure for Alex.
He believed that if he teamed up with Tony Stark, they could crack the formula—and possibly create a world where every person was a superbeing.
That temptation was almost too great to resist.
He reached out—but just then, his sixth sense screamed at him.
Something wasn't right.
He paused. Somewhere deeper in the vault, something was calling to him.
It wasn't audible, but the feeling was undeniable. A mysterious pull, as though something in the darkness resonated with him on a fundamental level.
Alex hesitated.
Then he turned and followed the pull—his instincts had never failed him before.
