Chapter 14: CH 14: The Rule
Astrid's thoughts were filled with doubts. 'Why would a dragon join her group?' Astrid shook her head knowing she needed to first solve the problem in front of her first, to make sure she survived the night.
[Opening Gift Pack..3..2..1]
[You got Asgardian physique]
[Weapon Mastery]
[Mutated Bewilder Beast Egg]
[Identification]
[Do you wish to accept?]
"I accept," Astrid answered, her eyes fixed on the Monstrous Nightmare with unwavering determination.
[Turning Asgardian Starting..3..2..1]
[Weapon Mastery Starting..3..2..1]
Astrid felt her muscles becoming stronger. Even her bones were changing, becoming three times denser than a normal human's. As she held the dagger in her hand, she shifted it to a more comfortable position, demonstrating her newfound mastery.
As she observed the surroundings preparing, as time resumes as everything turned back to normal.
The Monstrous Nightmare unleashed a torrent of flames towards Astrid.
Unfazed by the dragon's fiery breath, Astrid, empowered by her newfound strength, leaped to the side, dodging the inferno. She then threw her dagger, aiming for the dragon's neck.
The dagger, propelled by her enhanced strength, arced through the air and struck the dragon, but it simply bounced off the dragon's thick scales.
The Monstrous Nightmare blinked in shock, realizing it had almost been killed.
Astrid's eyes widened in disbelief. She had forgotten that she found the dagger in her room, meaning it was given to her by her parents for practice or play.
Even Viking parents weren't crazy enough to give their children real weapons.
The Monstrous Nightmare turned its attention to Astrid, its eyes blazing with fury. It opened its jaws, aiming to bite her.
Astrid dodged nimbly, but with courage, she kicked the dragon in the jaw.
Though the dragon was not severely affected, it blinked in confusion, unable to comprehend how a small human could possess such strength.
Seeing the dragon momentarily dazed, Astrid ran towards it, then jumped, her hands gripping its horns.
Using the combined force of her Asgardian physique, which tripled her weight and strength, and the force of gravity, she pulled the Monstrous Nightmare down, slamming the side of its face to the ground.
"By the gods!" Gobber exclaimed, witnessing the scene from outside. He ran towards Astrid to help, knowing the dragon wouldn't be defeated so easily.
The Monstrous Nightmare's eyes burned with rage. It was the second time it had been hurt by a human.
Just as it was about to breathe fire, a mace slammed into its head. Then, a rope snagged its snout, followed by Vikings tying its limbs. The dragon struggled, but a net was thrown over it, ensnaring it completely.
"They're leaving! Stop this one from ever leaving Berk!" Stoick, the village chief, shouted, helping one of the Vikings pull on the rope tied to the Monstrous Nightmare's legs as the dragons began to retreat one by one.
"Victory is ours!" Stoick roared, as the people of Berk erupted in celebration. Other Vikings joined in, pulling the Monstrous Nightmare.
"For Berk!" the crowd chanted as they pulled on the ropes.
Astrid scanned the scene, relieved that the dragon was captured. She saw the smiles on everyone's faces, before she let out a yelp as someone suddenly scooped her up, lifting her by the waist.
"You're a bit heavier than you look, lass," Gobber grumbled, frowning slightly, wondering why Astrid was so difficult to lift. 'Am I that weak? Impossible,' he thought, carrying Astrid on his shoulder and walking towards Stoick.
"Stoick! You should've seen this girl in action. It's like she was blessed by Odin himself!" Gobber exclaimed, still incredulous at what he had witnessed.
"Take it to the Arena!" Stoick shouted to the Vikings who were pulling the Monstrous Nightmare, before turning to Gobber and Astrid.
"You'll be a great Viking like your mother, Astrid," Stoick said, looking around. He couldn't believe what Gobber was saying, but it wasn't just Gobber who had seen what Astrid had done, there are other villagers as well.
Astrid didn't reply, staring blankly into the air, stunned because the chat group suddenly appeared.
[Destiny Detected]
[Mission One: Save Gobber's left hand from being bitten off by a Monstrous Nightmare]
[Reward: Gobber's Blacksmith Experience]
[Mission Complete]
[Do you wish to accept the reward]
[Yes/No]
Astrid's eyes widened in shock. She hadn't even received the other gifts from the gift pack yet but now she already had a reward. She didn't even know that the Chat Group System could issue missions.
•-----•-----•-----•-----•
Ragnar lay on the mattress, staring blankly at the ceiling. The chat group had gone silent after he mentioned the Gift Pack.
He assumed everyone was tending to their own affairs, and he had his own business to attend to.
First, Ragnar had to figure out who everyone was. He already knew Shitori Sona was a devil student president.
Ragnar recognized the name Lovegood from Harry Potter, but he was pretty sure this was Luna, considering her innocent tone.
The Viking warrior from Berk, though he didn't know exactly who it was, he or she is clearly from the "How to Train Your Dragon" universe.
The only one Ragnar couldn't figure out was "Son of Plane." It was too vague. "Son of Plane" could be a title for any protagonist in anime, movies, or TV shows.
Ragnar scratched his head. 'Ichigo?' he pondered, trying to think of a protagonist who had a sick or dying mother.
'No, his title wouldn't be like that,' Ragnar sighed in frustration, racking his brain before giving up. He decided to go for the reliable solution: just ask.
[Wyrmling]: Hey guys, can you tell me your names? I'm Ragnar Haddock, by the way.
[Shitori Sona]: Sona Sitri. Nice to meet you. Are you the first one to join the chat group? Or the one who created it?
Sona asked, her brow furrowed as she pushed her sister out of the room. She took a glance at the chat group, before raising her hand towards the wet patch on her bed. She focused her control, separating the water from the bed and directing it towards the sink in her bathroom.
[Wyrmling]: I'm the first one to join. I'm not the one who created it, but I'm the one who sent the invitations.
[Shitori Sona]: Like the chat group leader?
Sona inquired, narrowing her eyes as she compared the chat group system to a normal chat group where someone could invite and kick out people.
[Wyrmling]: I don't know. I don't think there's a group leader here.
Ragnar, curious as well, started asking the chat group system in his mind. He always wanted to know what it could do beyond connecting people from different universes.
[There is No Group Leader. Wyrmling was the only member at the time, so he was the only one who could send invitations.]
[Now, if invitations become available again, the group members will have a vote to decide whether or not to send them out.]
The chat group's answer appeared for all to see, causing everyone to pause and focus on the announcement.
[Shitori Sona]: So no one can kick anyone out of the chat group?
Sona asked, pushing her glasses up her nose. She disliked the thought that someone could kick her out whenever they wanted. She knew the opportunities this chat group offered and wouldn't want to be left out.
[The only one way to get kicked out is if a member breaks the rules.]
[There is only one rule in this chat group: You can't hurt a fellow member in any way.]
[Wyrmling]: That's good news, isn't it?
Ragnar said, but in person, he let out a sigh of defeat. 'I'm not a protagonist after all,' he sighed. He had always thought the chat group system was his cheat, the so-called "golden finger" that every reincarnator received, but it seemed the system had disappointed his dream yet again.
Sona, on the other hand, sighed with relief. This rule meant they could be more sincere with each other, considering the potential of the gift packs. If every member received the same level of gifts as she had, even she couldn't help but have greedy thoughts, and conflicts will escalate because of this reason.
[Viking Warrior]: That's good. We don't have to worry about dragon attacking us. And have you guys gotten missions?
Astrid asked, accepting the Blacksmith Experience from Gobber, the reward from completing the mission.
[Wyrmling]: I want to report there's a racist here!
Ragnar said, feeling aggrieved. He hadn't done anything wrong, but he couldn't say what the future held, since he planned to smuggle some dragons if he could travel to "How to Train a Dragon" universe.
[Loony Lovegood]: My name is Luna Lovegood. Nice to meet you all. And I don't think the dragon would hurt us.
Luna introduced herself, about to defend the dragon, since she wanted it to be her friend.
Ragnar's smile widened, and he nodded, ready to express his thanks for Luna's support. But then, as if she could sense his gratitude, Luna continued, and her next words left him utterly bewildered
[Loony Lovegood]: After all, it's a baby.
[Wyrmling]: I'm not a Baby!!!!
