Chapter 7: Chapter 7 - Vigilanting pt. 1
Underneath the otherworldly glow of the full moon, Adam stood on the edge of a building looking down on the alley below while the moon's fluorescent light gleamed upon him.
'Alright, time to go on a little adventure.'
Adam thought before leaping off the edge of a building.
His body fell diving down head first like a falcon hunting for prey, but just before he came crashing into the ground, his body came to a sudden stop, suspended by a strange flexible substance wrapping around his wrist, while the other end attached to the nearest building.
Below him were three men dressed in black, their figures barely visible due to the cloak of the night's shadow. They carried large, automatic rifles in their hands, and a black duffel bag strung across their back.
They were unaware of Adam hanging upside down, above their heads, and entered a black van. When the engine started, it didn't make a loud revving sound; instead, it was more like an electric engine, showing that they clearly planned for this and it wasn't some run-of-the-mill robbery.
Besides, to Adam's knowledge, there wasn't anything worth stealing in the area... to his knowledge at least. So he thought it a good idea to see where the van was headed and caught a ride on the roof.
"Perfect, this is going just as planned. The boss might even give us a promotion when we're done here."
A deep voice echoed from inside the vehicle.
"Yeah, well, just get out of here already, the alarms can go off any moment now, and they can be here any moment now."
Another voice rang, this time more high-pitched than the other.
After some time, the van was finally slowing down, and Adam saw a large gated building ahead with two guards on both sides guarding the entrance. Swiftly, he got into cover and watched as the van stopped at the gates and they opened, so that the van could pass through.
Adam took the moment to begin analyzing the guards, cameras, and any potential entrance points to enter the building.
'So then this must be the place. I wonder what kind of characters they have in there. Though I'm kind of worried about these weapons. Where the heck did they get M4 Carbines, and how come everyone has a bulletproof vest? What the heck am I getting myself into?'
Adam left his hiding spot and stepped in front of the gates, approaching the guards slowly.
"Hello there."
He said, taking on a kid-like demeanor.
The guards quickly aimed their guns reflexively at the approaching figure in the dark.
"Huh? It's just a kid."
The guard on the left said, confused, now slightly lowering his gun.
"What are you doing here, kid? You shouldn't be here, it's not safe, especially at night."
The other guard said, still keeping his gun aimed at Adam.
"I just got a little board that's all... now I'm here to kill you."
Adam said, retaining his calm and innocent tone.
"What was that kid—"
The right guard questioned before being pierced through the heart by a stone spike protruding from the ground.
"Wha—what? What just happened? Who the heck are you, kid?"
The left guard said, lifting his gun, though by the time it was aimed at Adam, his heart was already pierced by a stone spike.
"Thanks for all the help, mister."
Adam destroyed the cameras with stone bullets before floating into the air on a stone platform. From the vantage point, he began sniping the guards with bullets raining down from the sky.
His aim is almost perfect every time, hitting headshots on all of the guards. But the ones he missed still managed to hit their throat. And in mere moments, the entire exterior of the warehouse was cleared of guards.
Adam then descended upon the building and entered through the front door.
Waiting on the other side were three guards, but before they could even realize Adam's presence, Adam had already killed them.
'Geez, I feel a little psychotic.'
[You are.]
'Well, remember you made me this way, now I'm some heartless monster because of you.'
Adam continued forward through the warehouse, taking out any guards and cameras along the way until he entered a giant room filled with crates, guards, and money all over, along with guards at the ready, with their guns pointed toward him.
"Well seems like I've been discovered. Luckily I've already planned for this."
Adam joked, raising a hand and gesturing towards the guards.
"Hey! Don't move, kid, just come with us. I wouldn't want to have to kill some little brat."
Said the man who seemed to hold the most power among the other soldiers.
"Now, why would I do that... when I could just massacre you all?"
Adam responded, summoning golems of stone that acted as a wall against him and the gathered soldier-like guards.
Instantly, the guards unloaded fire upon the golems, but their bullets did nothing as the golems began advancing, giving them no choice but to run.
But doing that only gave Adam the perfect opportunity to kill them all with raining bullets before they could find safety.
While his golems destroyed the place, Adam began looking around for any more potential criminals who may be hiding. And after searching every corner of the warehouse, he believed it was empty, finally lowering his guard for a moment.
Before, out of nowhere, he was sent flying into a man's fist by some unknown force, barely managing to mitigate the damage dealt with a soft layer of mud between him and the fist.
"Well, I didn't see that coming. What just happened?"
He said on a knee while he rubbed his aching head.
He turned his head searching for the source of the two attacks, but found that the building was empty once again, his golems dissolved due to his loss of focus.
But then, amid his confusion, the man who'd punched him reappeared in front of him, ready to send another, but before he could land, Adam reacted in time, generating a stone spike from the ground to attack.
Though quickly, the guy jumped back, vanishing into the air.
"Alright, something about this doesn't seem fair. Just how many abilities does this guy have... or are there multiple? Whatever the case, this combination of powers seems a little overpowered. How'd I get myself into this situation?"
...
