Wanda frowned, her glowing crimson eyes fixed on Mantis. "What do you mean, they?"

Mantis, still under Wanda's spell, tilted her head slightly, her antennae twitching faintly.

Her voice was soft and almost childlike. "There is… another. It doesn't belong here, not in this universe. It arrived 190 days ago. Ego told me that a while back... It's like a shadow—no, a parasite. It's hiding deep inside Ego, tangled with his consciousness. It's trying to take over."

Wanda's eyes narrowed. "A parasite?"

Mantis nodded slowly. "It was small at first, like a whisper. But now… it's growing. It's… alive, feeding on Ego's energy and his mind. I can feel its presence every time it tries to rise. That's why the tremors happen. Ego is fighting it, but… he's losing."

Wanda absorbed the information, her fingers curling slightly as her magic flared. "And this thing… what does it want?"

"It wants to destroy," Mantis replied, her voice trembling slightly, though her expression remained blank under the spell. "It hates. It hates Ego." Her antennae twitched again. "And… it hates someone else. Someone Ego doesn't know... someone who shouldn't exist here."

Someone who shouldn't exist here.

Erik who was listening through the earpiece, was shaken up slightly. 'Is she talking about me...?'

Wanda's heart tightened for some reason, this information was unsettling. Her earpiece crackled as she tapped it. "Erik, did you hear that?"

Erik's voice came through, calm but tinged with uncertainty. "Yeah, I did. But I don't know what to make of it."

Wanda glanced back toward the sky. "This thing… for some reason, it disgusts my entire being by just knowing about it."

There was a long pause before Erik replied. "I see, I think you should come down here as well, bring Mantis too, just in case."

Wanda exhaled sharply, the crimson glow around her hands intensifying. "Understood. I'm bringing her down now," she replied through her earpiece.

She extended her arms and carefully lifted Mantis into a secure in a piggy back. Mantis, still under Wanda's spell, didn't resist, her antennae twitching faintly as she rested her head against Wanda's shoulder.

Hovering above the ground, Wanda focused her chaos magic into her palms, releasing a blast of raw energy. The impact shattered the stone steps beneath them, sending debris flying.

A deep crater began to form, the force carving through Ego's surface like a hot knife through butter. The ground trembled violently, but Wanda pressed forward, her crimson energy acting as both a weapon and a shield.

The air grew hotter as she descended further, blasting through layers of rock and soil. Wanda's chaos magic wasn't subtle—it tore through Ego's mantle, leaving molten trails in its wake.

"You're very… strong," Mantis murmured faintly as she clung to Wanda.

After about 5 minutes of digging through the planet's surface, Erik's stealth ship finally reached the core area. A large cavernous chamber, a space that seemed to stretch endlessly in all directions.

Erik moved and navigated the ship to see the core. And finally, they got the view.

It was alive, pulsating with an eerie energy that radiated from the core itself.

The central structure resembled a decaying, alien heart—an immense, red-glowing mass at the center, with jagged, rust-colored branches of sinew and metal stretching outward like the roots of some monstrous tree.

Blue light flickered through the spaces in the structure, illuminating the cave's walls, which were coated in strange, molten textures that rippled like flesh.

"Hm, just as we heard from Mantis, he's unconscious otherwise, he would've attacked by now." Saying so, Erik got up from the cockpit and flew out of the ship, his dark coat fluttering slightly as he hovered above the ground.

The place was quiet, save for the faint pulse of the core.

Erik moved cautiously, levitating closer to the core, his gaze fixed on the massive, alien structure.

Raising his hand, Erik began to summon Beelzebuth, his most destructive ability.

A dark purple cloud began to materialize around him, swirling like a sentient storm.

The cloud expanded rapidly, its edges flickering with tendrils of darkness as it hungered for anything in its path.

The moment Beelzebuth drew near the core, the structure trembled.

Cindy was watching from inside the ship, winced realizing what could happen next, and cursed, "Oh, fuck that!"

His spider-senses suddenly flared.

Erik's eyes widened. "Oh no, you don't," he muttered, realizing the core was reacting.

With a sharp motion, Erik thrust his hand forward, hastening Beelzebuth to expand further. The dark violet cloud surged, stretching toward the core, ready to consume it entirely before it could retaliate.

But then the violet cloud disappeared as if it was never even there.

Erik's eyes widened in shock.

'The fuck! This is... impossible!'

Even though his system was damaged, his skills were absolutely trustworthy. Then why was it happening right now? What could've caused it?

As if to answer his queries, the blue screen appeared before his vision. The System screen, that rarely popped up.

[ Error! Error! Error! ]

[Skill deployment failed! Interference caused by an external malicious entity! ]

[ Urgent Mission: Please exterminate the malicious entity. Reward: None. Failure: Death ]

This was the first time Erik's got a mission from the system.

'And that Interference...' Erik gritted his teeth, 'Must be that 'something' which invaded Ego...'

Fuck it.

But before Erik could think anymore, the ground beneath the levitating Erik cracked and erupted. An earthen pillar shot upward like a missile, its force unstoppable.

The spider-sense buzzed again, but he barely had time to react before it slammed into him with brutal speed.

"Ugh!" Erik grunted as he was thrown upward like a rag doll, his body colliding hard against the cavern's wall.

The impact echoed throughout the chamber, cracks spreading along the surface where he crashed.

Erik groaned, shaking off the daze, his eyes darting back toward the core. It was no longer passive. It was awake.

But how and why now?

"Oh, Fuck that!" Erik cursed.

Wanda landed with Mantis cradled in her arms, her boots hitting the cracked and trembling ground.

The sound of chaotic battle rang out immediately—explosions, hums of laser fire, and the guttural roars of Ego's strange earthen army echoed around the chamber.

'Erik told me the battle had begun but I didn't expect this much of a chaos...'

Above them, the stealth ship hovered at a relatively safe distance from the core, its cannons firing streams of glowing laser bullets into the horde of enemies below.

Erik was in the air, flying with unnatural speed and agility, his figure barely a blur as he weaved through the hordes of humanoid earthen soldiers that resembled a same person.

Cindy was fighting as well, swinging around and destroying the earthen soldiers as if they were made of clay. Well, technically they were.

Wanda could see that Ego's main target was Erik, just by looking at the sheer number of soldiers behind him.

Not long after she arrived with Mantis in her arms, a cluster of the earthen beings broke off from the swarm chasing Erik and Cindy and turned their focus toward them.

'Oh, fuck that!' Wanda cursed.
