Chapter 34: Chapter 33: "Bull
"Master Harry, I've brought the equipment," the butler announced, handing over a camera with a lens like a cannon barrel. The three figures over the Empire State Building were nearly out of view, disappearing behind another building.
"Hurry, set it up and see what it is!" Harry urged.
The butler quickly set up the camera, adjusted the settings, aimed at the three vague figures by the Empire State Building, and pressed the shutter.
"Click, click, click..."
Despite the rapid shots, the figures vanished from sight before many photos were captured.
Once finished, everyone gathered to see what had been captured.
The photos were blurred, barely revealing that the bottom figure was tied up, the one behind was clad in red, and the last figure was shorter and appeared much bulkier.
---
Shortly after Harry and his companions took their photos, the streets around the Empire State Building were filled with the wailing of sirens.
"Ahhhhh! Please! Let me down!!"
As George exited the police car with his pistol, he saw a man yelling from the Empire State Building's exit.
Spotting the police, Caubert, who was hanging there, lit up with hope, seeing them as saviors.
"Help me!! Arrest me quickly!! I'm a criminal! Put me in jail!"
The officers, upon seeing the webbing binding Caubert, recognized the handiwork of Spider-Man.
"Spider-Man," George muttered, his expression darkening. He was determined to arrest this vigilante for his disregard of the law.
Onlookers had already begun filming Caubert's predicament with their phones. They were confident that by morning, Spider-Man would be all over the news and internet.
The recent buzz around Panda Dabai had waned, but with the impending statement between Congress and the Dragon Kingdom, New York was poised for another uproar.
George called for backup, preparing to rescue Caubert from the tower.
---
Not far away, Big White and Peter watched the scene from a nearby rooftop, their silhouettes barely discernible in the night.
"What are your future plans?" Big White asked softly, observing Caubert's rescue below.
"Punish evil and promote good!" Peter declared, using an idiom he had recently learned.
"Huh? What? Promote goodness?" Big White blinked in confusion.
"Uh... Sorry, it's 'promote good!'" Peter, previously serious, laughed awkwardly, scratching his head.
"Maybe you need a reliable translator," Big White teased.
"The translator was right; it's just tricky to learn. Chinese is tough," Peter admitted, a bit flustered.
"If you want to learn, I can teach you. For instance, when something's impressive, in the Dragon Kingdom dialect, you say 'awesome,'" Big White explained, mimicking the tone.
"Bull," Peter repeated, trying to get it right.
"Yes, just lengthen the tone a bit."
Since discovering Big White's knowledge of Kung Fu, Peter had no doubts about his grasp of the Dragon Kingdom dialect. It seemed perfectly normal.
---
After learning a bit of Chinese under Big White's guidance, night fell, and the two parted ways.
Big White hadn't anticipated things going so smoothly today. He had expected that gathering information from the animals would take days, not just hours.
In truth, he had underestimated the memory and intelligence of animals. Even the most inconspicuous mouse can have memory capabilities comparable to advanced computers.
Once communication was possible, gathering information became much faster.
After parting ways, Big White swung through the city using spider silk, quickly returning to Queens and reaching Gwen's bedroom window.
Seeing the light in the window, it was clear Gwen wasn't asleep yet.
Big White opened the window and rolled back into the room.
Gwen, worried about Big White's safety, was startled by his sudden appearance.
"Who are you?" she stammered. Big White was half-kneeling, head down, hidden by his bamboo hat. His knightly attire made him unrecognizable at first.
"It's me, Big White," he said, removing his hat and smiling. "It's sad. I put on a disguise, and you don't even recognize me."
"Big White? What on earth! Where did you get those clothes?" Gwen exclaimed, approaching him and tugging at his coat. Feeling the silky fabric, she marveled, "The material's amazing. Someone put a lot of effort into this."
"This is my reward for helping out, and I'll only wear it when I go out. Have the clothes you bought for me arrived?" Big White asked, removing his outfit.
"Of course, I was excited to see you try them on today, but you vanished," Gwen said, a hint of frustration in her voice. "My mom and John waited for you too."
"Okay... I'll get up early tomorrow and try them on. How about that?" Big White offered, feeling a bit guilty.
"Doesn't matter; sleep as long as you want. But who was that mysterious person you mentioned?" Gwen asked, intrigued by the man who had taken Big White away.
"You all call him Spider-Man, the guy in the red and blue tights with a spider on his chest."
"Before I joined the police, I should have worked with him at night," Big White explained, clarifying a bit but not revealing too much.
"Spider-Man! It's him!" Gwen was surprised, even more so by his next words. "You plan to go out with him? That's dangerous!"
"With his protection, it's fine. Don't tell anyone, or George will be on our trail."
"I trust you won't betray me!" Big White said earnestly, looking at Gwen.
"Of course, but we should discuss this further. Maybe contact Spider-Man," Gwen agreed, promising not to expose anything.
"Don't worry, I'll be back safely and on time. If you can get some criminal info from your dad, we might save him a lot of trouble."
