Chapter 21: Chapter 21
"Boom—"
"Boom—"
...
The small flying crafts fired beams of light, striking the heart of bustling cities, obliterating landmarks like the Eiffel Tower, the Statue of Liberty, and Notre-Dame Cathedral!
"Motherf—!" Fury cursed in anger, "Initiate Level 1 war status! All units are free to open fire! Shoot down every one of these invaders!"
"Yes!"
"Yes!"
"Yes!"
...
Those who could fly, like Kara and Homelander, rushed directly to the nearest battle zones. The others made their way to the deck, boarding the Quinjet to head out.
"Hill, assign them to their respective battlefields!"
"Yes!"
Soon enough, the previously noisy command center was left with only Vex and Lewis.
Vex, rubbing his chin, let his gaze fall on the operations commander, Maria Hill.
Just like Sharon, Hill exuded the sharp, efficient aura unique to an agent, but her long legs made her stand out even more.
Her role as commander of the airborne aircraft carrier added an extra layer of challenge to her already stunning presence.
It made Vex want... to conquer her.
Vex's unmasked gaze, combined with his natural instinct to "grow his clan," made it clear what he was thinking.
But Hill was Fury's trusted lieutenant, managing all the day-to-day affairs.
Compared to Natasha and Sharon, Hill was off-limits!
Fury pretended not to notice and kept his eyes locked on the screen.
The jets from various nations took off, but before they could even enter range, they were met with a barrage from the Kryptonian ships, taking out over a third of the fighter squadrons instantly!
Those that broke through the deadly screen finally got within range, only to find, in despair, that the missiles they launched were blown up mid-flight by a single laser beam!
The Kryptonian defense systems were far beyond their comprehension.
After suffering another heavy loss, the surviving pilots, with no other option, made a death-defying choice: they became human bombs and initiated suicide attacks!
The Kryptonians hadn't expected such resolve from Earth's inhabitants.
Caught off guard, they suffered a few casualties in a desperate exchange of lives.
But that was just a brief shock.
Once the Kryptonians adapted, pilots from other countries who tried the same tactic found themselves facing a terrifying reality—Kryptonian ships could make right-angle turns to evade them!
Not only were the Kryptonian ships technologically superior, but the physiology of the Kryptonians allowed them to handle g-forces that would make Earth's pilots pass out—while for them, it was nothing more than a slight increase in blood pressure.
They couldn't even touch their enemies!
The 3,000 Kryptonian crafts wreaked havoc, leaving the Earth forces unable to retaliate, helplessly watching as the invaders rampaged.
In this dire moment...
The first wave of superheroes—Kara, Homelander, and the rest—finally arrived!
Just like how the Kryptonian crafts dominated the Earth's jets, the superheroes were able to tear them apart with their superior flying skills, as long as they weren't overwhelmed by too many ships.
Though Homelander and Tony weren't as adept as Kara, they had their own methods to take down the Kryptonian invaders.
Once the Quinjet arrived with reinforcements, the situation gradually came under control.
This allowed Fury and Hill to breathe a subtle sigh of relief.
Maybe... these aliens weren't so hard to deal with after all?
...
Vex's expression was one of mild surprise. Zod's forces were far more numerous than in the movies!
In the film, it was only a handful of them.
Did they gather more remnants from the Phantom Zone?
"Don't get too comfortable," Vex warned, "Earth's gravity is much lower than Krypton's. Every one of these new arrivals is essentially a mini-Superman."
Fury's face changed.
Without needing an order, Hill quickly shifted the camera views to ground level.
Just as Vex had said, the damage from the downed Kryptonian ships wasn't enough to be fatal.
One by one, the Kryptonians climbed out of the wreckage and continued their mission, engaging in indiscriminate slaughter and rampant destruction of the cities!
In no time, the Earth was engulfed in chaos, with countless civilians being killed.
Police, military units, even special forces...
None of them could penetrate the defense of the Kryptonians!
Instead, they were torn apart like paper, as the Kryptonians rampaged through, slaughtering with ease!
The scene was bloody beyond measure.
And yet...
Despite this, Fury's expression remained calm.
He trusted that his assembled super-team could turn the tide!
But was that really the case?
...
New York, Manhattan.
Homelander was the first to return to his base, encountering a Kryptonian who had broken through the military defenses and was charging at civilians.
In an instant, Homelander swooped down and kicked the Kryptonian away.
But instead of pressing the attack, he turned and smiled warmly at the civilians he had just saved.
"Don't worry, as long as I'm he—"
"Zoom—"
The Kryptonian returned with a headbutt, sending Homelander flying. The two crashed through a skyscraper, bursting out the other side and landing on the street.
The Kryptonian had none of Homelander's showmanship.
Fist after fist, he pummeled Homelander, pinning him down and beating him mercilessly!
No matter how Homelander struggled, he was horrified to find... he couldn't break free!
Damn it!
A random Kryptonian was as physically strong as he was?
That's insane!
In a panic, Homelander unleashed all his power, concentrating it into his eyes, and shot a thick beam of heat vision!
It sliced through the Kryptonian's arm, cutting off half his head and securing a last-minute victory.
But...
Homelander was left panting heavily, lying there motionless.
If another Kryptonian arrived now...
He'd be done for!
"Boom—"
A shadow crashed down three meters away—it was Wolverine, Logan, who had just been tackled by another Kryptonian.
Using sheer brute strength, Logan grabbed both of the Kryptonian's wrists with one hand.
"Bang—"
A punch to the head!
Disgusted, Logan wiped his hand clean, but the Kryptonian saw Homelander lying nearby and his eyes filled with rage!
You killed one of my kin?
You'll die for this!
In Homelander's terrified gaze, the Kryptonian got up and moved to deliver the killing blow...
"Schlunk—"
Blood-red claws pierced through the Kryptonian's chest, lifting him into the air. Behind him, Wolverine's half-regenerated head came into view.
The healing factor!
Even being decapitated wouldn't stop Logan—he'd just grow a new head. That was the most overpowered part of his mutant abilities.
Logan casually tossed the Kryptonian aside and glanced at Homelander.
"Still able to fight?"
Homelander, having caught his breath, was filled with adrenaline and managed to stand.
But he was scared...
Risking his precious life to save those worthless ants?
Not worth it!
"I... I'm pretty hurt," Homelander grimaced. "How about you take m—"
"Then just lie there."
Without a second glance, Logan rushed toward the next battlefield.
