Chapter 92: Chapter 092 The Avengers Split.
The exposure of HYDRA's plans led to fierce battles erupting across New York City.
Ordinary people avoided areas where armed forces clashed, seeking shelter in safer locations. But those with superpowers deliberately headed toward the chaos.
Because where there was chaos, there were HYDRA agents.
Most superpowered individuals now wanted to take the fight to HYDRA—and Stark was no exception.
At this moment, Tony Stark soared high above the city, scanning the battlefield while Jarvis quickly pinpointed Bucky Barnes' location.
When Stark arrived, the streets below were in complete disorder. Superpowered individuals and HYDRA's Winter Soldiers were already locked in fierce combat.
Amidst the turmoil, Stark spotted a familiar figure—Captain America.
Under normal circumstances, he might have exchanged a greeting with Steve Rogers.
But not today.
Right now, Stark didn't have the time—or the patience—for pleasantries.
He locked onto Bucky's position mid-air and fired without hesitation.
After taking Luo Bai's advice, Stark had made significant upgrades to his Iron Man suit.
Not only had its performance improved, but it was now equipped with a highly lethal weapon—an Arc Pulse Cannon.
Normally, Stark relied on micro armor-piercing rounds and laser weapons, avoiding extreme measures.
But at this moment—blinded by rage—he had no restraint.
He unleashed the Arc Pulse Cannon at full power.
A brilliant blue energy beam erupted from his armor and blasted toward Bucky.
Bucky, still engaged in battle with a group of superpowered individuals, had no idea what was coming.
By the time he sensed the attack, it was too late.
BOOM!
A deafening explosion ripped through the entire block.
Flames engulfed the streets, sending shockwaves through the battlefield.
Bucky was hit directly.
He collapsed, bloodied and unmoving, completely losing his ability to fight.
Lying on the ground, covered in blood, he struggled to move—but couldn't.
Seeing Bucky immobilized, Stark descended from the sky.
Without hesitation, he rushed forward, stopping inches away from his fallen enemy.
Glaring down at Bucky, Stark's rage boiled over.
He clenched his steel fists.
He couldn't stop thinking about it—the murderer of his parents, the killer trained by HYDRA.
He wouldn't let him live.
Stark grabbed the dying Bucky by his collar—
—and then slammed his metal fist into Bucky's face.
Punch after punch.
Again. And again. And again.
Blood splattered across his steel gauntlet, but Stark didn't stop.
He could have ended Bucky's life instantly with a more efficient method.
But he didn't.
Because this wasn't just about killing Bucky—this was about vengeance.
This was about the years of pain and unanswered questions that had tormented him.
And now, he was unleashing all of it.
With each brutal strike, Bucky grew weaker and weaker.
His face was now nothing but a bloody mess.
"You killed my parents, didn't you?!" Stark roared.
"The Winter Soldier! Bucky! You assassinated Howard Stark and his wife!"
Bucky, his consciousness slipping, muttered weakly under his breath.
"Winter Soldier… Bucky… assassination of Howard Stark… successful… Howard Stark and his wife… killed… by a mechanical arm…"
His voice was empty—lifeless.
He wasn't even aware of what he was saying—just following his conditioning.
But for Stark—that was the final trigger.
His father was murdered by this man's mechanical arm?
That realization pushed him past his breaking point.
Blinded by rage, Stark activated his suit's laser cutter—
—and severed Bucky's robotic arm.
Bucky didn't even scream.
He simply collapsed, blood pouring from the wound.
But Stark wasn't done.
"You were a sergeant during World War II! You were supposed to be a hero! A soldier who protected people—just like Captain America!"
His voice shook with rage.
"Why?! Why did you kill my father?! He only wanted to make the world a better place!!"
At that moment, Stark could no longer think clearly.
Consumed by fury—he fired.
The laser beam pierced straight through Bucky's chest.
Bucky Barnes—the Winter Soldier—was dead.
As the battle's chaos faded, Stark removed his helmet.
He looked down at Bucky's lifeless body.
And yet…
He felt no satisfaction.
No relief.
Instead, an overwhelming sense of emptiness settled in his heart.
He had waited years for this moment.
He had finally avenged his parents.
And yet—why did it feel so hollow?
Everyone told him his parents had died in an accident.
But the truth was far crueler.
Not only were they murdered…
They were killed by a soldier from their own country.
A man who was supposed to be a hero.
How ridiculous.
Stark let out a bitter laugh, feeling exhausted.
His vengeance was complete, yet he felt more drained than ever.
All he wanted now—was to leave.
He turned away, prepared to fly off—
But then—
A shield came flying straight at him.
SLAM!
Stark was caught off guard.
The impact sent him crashing several meters away.
He groaned, regaining his focus—only to realize—
That shield…
It was the very shield his father had crafted for Captain America.
Stark's eyes widened.
He slowly looked up.
And there—standing before him—was Captain America.
Stark and Steve had always had a complicated relationship.
But now, for some reason, Steve was looking at him like an enemy.
Before Stark could even process what was happening—
Captain America attacked.
Every punch, every strike was aimed to kill.
Steve was holding nothing back.
Stark hesitated, still trying to understand—but Steve didn't.
Forced onto the defensive, Stark blocked a blow and shouted angrily,
"Steve! What the hell are you doing?! Why are you attacking me?!"
Steve's voice exploded with fury.
"Because you killed Bucky!!!"
Stark's mind reeled.
Bucky?
The Hydra assassin?
The killer?
What the hell was Steve talking about?!
"Steve, wake up! He was HYDRA! He was a HYDRA assassin!!"
Steve didn't falter.
His eyes burned with pure determination.
"Bucky was different! He fought alongside me—he fought against HYDRA! I don't know why he became their weapon… but I know it wasn't his choice!"
His voice cracked with emotion.
"Stark… how could you kill him so easily?! He was a living person! A human being!!"
"BECAUSE HE KILLED MY PARENTS!!!" Stark roared back.
The words shook the battlefield.
And for the first time, Steve faltered.
His expression changed—because he knew Howard Stark.
A good man.
A man who had given him this very shield.
A man whose son had just killed his best friend.
Captain America hadn't expected Stark to say such a thing, leaving him momentarily stunned.
At this point, Stark could no longer contain his emotions.
He roared at Captain America, venting his anger, "Steve! He admitted it himself! He used his mechanical arm to smash my father to death!"
Stark's voice was choked with emotion, his entire body trembling uncontrollably.
He thought that after learning the truth, Captain America would at least understand his actions.
A Hydra operative, the man who personally murdered Stark's parents—if Stark killed him, it would be justified.
But to his surprise, Captain America remained indifferent.
"He must have had his reasons. You shouldn't have done this without knowing everything. Bucky is my friend," Captain America said in a deep voice.
As soon as he finished speaking, he launched another attack on Stark.
The two clashed violently.
Their fight caught the attention of Spider-Man, Peter Parker, who had been battling Hydra operatives nearby.
Peter had originally accompanied Captain America to stop Hydra's Insight Project.
But on the way, they had encountered the Winter Soldier, engaged in battle with super-powered individuals, so they stopped to intervene.
What he never expected—what left him completely dumbfounded—was seeing Iron Man and Captain America fighting each other?!
Iron Man was one of the most well-known heroes in the country. Of course, Peter knew him.
Sensing that something was wrong, Peter immediately rushed over to intervene.
"Hey, you two… what's going on?! Aren't we supposed to be fighting Hydra? Why are you fighting each other?"
Peter stepped between them, trying to get an explanation.
But neither of them paid him any attention. Their battle only intensified.
Even as they fought, they continued arguing.
"Steve! He's a Hydra assassin! The Winter Soldier! And you're attacking me over him?!"
"I believe Bucky is innocent! He couldn't have done this!"
"But he did!"
Their furious exchange continued.
From their argument, Peter managed to piece together some of what had happened.
"Wait… the Winter Soldier? Aren't they a group of people brainwashed and turned into weapons by Hydra?" Peter asked.
Although his voice wasn't loud, both Captain America and Stark heard him.
They stopped at the same time.
Captain America was the first to react, turning to Peter with urgency. "What did you just say?"
Peter was caught off guard by his intensity and hesitated before responding, "The Winter Soldiers are people who were brainwashed and stripped of their memories by Hydra. Most of them were once highly trained warriors, but Hydra transformed them into obedient assassins, loyal only to their cause.
This was all in the classified Hydra files that got leaked onto the internet… I thought you guys already knew."
Captain America had been frozen for seventy years, completely disconnected from the modern world.
He rarely used modern technology, so he hadn't come across that information.
He had only learned about Hydra's plans because of Pierce's broadcast.
As for Stark, he had been blinded by rage after witnessing Bucky murder his parents. He hadn't bothered to go through all of Hydra's leaked files.
Now that they heard this, both of them fell silent.
After a long pause, Captain America finally spoke, his voice filled with emotion, "I knew it. I knew Bucky wouldn't have done it of his own will! Stark, he was brainwashed! He lost all his memories! He was a good man at heart… but you killed him!"
Stark refused to accept this reasoning. He clenched his fists and retorted angrily, "Even if it wasn't his choice, doesn't he still bear some responsibility?"
Captain America's next words hit him like a sledgehammer.
"Stark Industries has manufactured countless weapons—why don't you compensate the families destroyed by your missiles?"
The accusation struck a nerve. Stark's thoughts immediately went to Wanda Maximoff.
He remembered the hatred in her eyes when she spoke of how Stark Industries weapons had killed her parents.
But no matter what, he couldn't forgive Bucky for murdering his own parents.
So he pushed back. "I'm an arms manufacturer. I design and sell weapons. I can't control how they're used. At least I never personally launched those missiles!"
"But the weapons you created have left countless families in ruins!"
Captain America's words cut deep.
Stark didn't respond.
But Captain America wasn't done. His anger burned hotter than ever.
"Stark, you shouldn't have killed Bucky. You're impulsive, arrogant, selfish—you've taken so many lives!"
With that, he attacked Stark again.
Stark never intended to fight Captain America. But after everything that had just been said, he was left shaken. His mind was in turmoil.
So when the attack came, he didn't even think to defend himself.
He just stood there, motionless.
Seeing this, Peter Parker immediately jumped in front of him.
"Mr. Stark! Get out of here!" Peter shouted.
But Stark didn't move.
He stood there, watching as Peter struggled to hold back Captain America.
Then he glanced at Bucky's lifeless body on the ground.
His expression was unreadable.
After a long silence, he spoke, his voice quiet and weary.
"Jarvis… contact Luo Bai."
"Right away, sir," Jarvis responded.
The call connected—but before Stark could say a word, Luo Bai appeared.
The moment Luo Bai arrived, everything fell silent.
Captain America and Peter Parker immediately stopped.
The entire battlefield went still, as if time itself had frozen.
Stark, who had been burning with rage only moments ago, now looked like a child who had done something terribly wrong.
He said nothing, but Luo Bai took one glance at the situation and understood.
"You killed Bucky?" Luo Bai asked.
"Yeah," Stark admitted, his voice heavy with exhaustion.
"You got your revenge… so why do you look so miserable?" Luo Bai questioned.
Stark shook his head. "I don't know."
Luo Bai didn't respond immediately. He glanced at Captain America, who was still seething with fury.
Then he turned back to Stark.
"You called me here," Luo Bai said. "Do you want me to deal with Captain America for you?"
Stark shook his head. Then, in an almost pleading voice, he muttered, "I just… I just wanted to ask if I did the right thing. You're the only one I trust."
Luo Bai thought for a moment before answering.
"The fact that you're asking that question… means you already know the answer."
Stark let out a bitter laugh. "Yeah… I guess I do."
He sighed, looking utterly drained.
"I don't even know why I asked you to come here," he admitted. "I just… I really wanted to see you."
Luo Bai gave him a knowing look. "But I think I do know why you called me."
