Marvel: Neo Journey

Chapter 9: Chapter 9 Reckoning

Neo and the group finally arrive in New York.

There's just one big problem: they all look like maniacs who just escaped from Arkham Asylum.

Neo still wears blood-soaked clothes, with two bullet wounds almost healed.

Carina looks like a refugee from a war-torn country.

Alex looks like a military fanatic, dressed like a soldier on the streets.

Brownie... well, let's not get into the issue with that team member.

To simplify it, the moment they set foot in New York, the least people would think is that they're a bunch of homicidal psychopaths, especially with the aura that Alex and Neo carry because of the cursed energy in their bodies.

Alex and Carina are arguing like children, as usual, while Neo is figuring out how to enter the city without drawing attention. To the point where Brownie is now in the talisman.

While he's thinking, Hiten and Kamutoke suddenly start shaking, and a second later, Neo feels an extreme danger behind him. He quickly dodges a giant, pale green fist.

When he lands, he sees a strange, pale green monster about 13 feet tall with neon green eyes, drooling like an angry animal. It has two strange tanks on its back, connected to tubes that lead to its collarbone. It's shirtless, wearing only tight pants. The monster strangely yells something when it sees Neo.

Reiner: "Finally found you, you son of a bitch! You destroyed all my hard work, now I'm gonna rip your head off with my hands!"

Completely enraged, Reiner charges toward Neo, who remains calm and simply jumps to the side.

He sees something in front of him and ends up taking a wrong step, causing him to lose his balance.

Reiner, not missing the opportunity, lands a punch on him, sending Neo flying deep into the forest.

Seeing this, Reiner feels reinvigorated and shouts:

Reiner: "Sanchez, take care of the boy's companions. I'll handle the boy myself!"

When Reiner says this, four shadows emerge from different spots.

Alex isn't surprised—he had already sensed them when Reiner arrived.

The real problem is Reiner himself.

He doesn't seem to be fully present, which is strange, to say the least.

But knowing there's no more time for talk or thought, Alex assumes a fighting stance resembling boxing.

As Alex takes his position, Carina isn't far behind.

She adopts an unusual stance similar to Aikido—far more defensive than offensive.

The moment both of them are ready for battle, Reiner leaps toward Neo.

Sanchez glances at Alex with a mocking smile and attacks him alone, while the others simply watch, clearly underestimating the former weakest soldier in the entire Slaughterhouse.

Unfortunately for them, he's no longer the weakest.

As Alex fights Sanchez, Neo lies in a small crater, only slightly injured, staring at a system message.

[SECONDARY MISSION: THE KING OF CURSES' REVENGE.]

[OBJECTIVE: KILL THE BEING WHO IMPRISONED AND TORTURED YOU FOR THREE MONTHS.]

[BONUS OBJECTIVE: HUMILIATE THE BEING WHO THINKS HE'S GREATER THAN THE KING.]

[REWARD: DEPENDS ON HOW THE HOST COMPLETES THE MISSION.]

Upon reading this, a wide grin spreads across his face.

But as he sees Reiner approaching, an idea forms in his mind.

Reiner, closing in, notices that Neo is still alive and speaks.

Reiner: "Well, well, you're still breathing after that hit. Since I'm feeling generous today, I'll make you an offer."

Reiner looks at Neo as if he were an animal and continues.

Reiner: "If you crawl to my feet and beg for forgiveness, maybe I—"

Before he can finish his sentence, Neo interrupts with a loud, mocking laugh.

Neo: "Hahahahaha! I didn't know insects could talk on their own now! Hahahahaha!"

Neo laughs hysterically at Reiner, and as Reiner hears this, he becomes blind with rage and leaps at Neo, trying to crush him.

BOOM!

Without thinking, Reiner starts throwing a flurry of punches at Neo, but… in the next moment, a shallow cut appears on his throat, forcing him to back off.

Amidst the dust cloud from Reiner's previous attack, Neo stands tall, as if completely unfazed.

Seeing Reiner retreat so fearfully, Neo grins—if he could see himself, he would say that now, more than ever, he resembles Sukuna.

Then, Neo speaks.

Neo: "What's wrong, mutt? Something happened?"

He smirks sarcastically for a moment, making the veins on Reiner's forehead pulse even more with rage. Then, Neo adds:

Neo: "That was your second chance. You only have one left, so use it wisely, mutt."

Now completely out of patience, Reiner charges at Neo and throws an attack, which Neo dodges with a simple step backward.

Neo: "Careful, Mr. Mutt. You're running out of attacks before I start countering."

Reiner doesn't take it seriously and begins to increase the speed of his attacks—but Neo dodges every single one.

Descending kick

.A step to the side.

A flurry of punches—met with a sweeping kick that sends Reiner to the ground instantly.

As soon as he gets up, he throws an uppercut, but Neo simply redirects it with his hand, making him miss the target completely.

And after three minutes of this "game," just as Reiner is about to throw another punch…He feels something is off.

When he looks to his left, where his arm should be—there's nothing.

When he looks at Neo, he sees him holding a large, pale green arm.At that moment, Reiner feels something he hadn't felt at any point in this fight so far…

It was…

TERROR.

With his rage fading, he can finally perceive the sheer power of this child—what was he, 5'3" (1.60m)?

Now he understands.

What he should have done from the very start.

He has to—RUN!

Without hesitation, without considering if he'll make it or not, Reiner turns around and sprints toward Sanchez and the others.

After a few seconds of running, he stumbles—right as he reaches Sanchez.

He screams.

Reiner: "SANCHEZ, HELP ME!!!"

But when he looks for Sanchez and the others… he sees only two young people, sitting on top of four bodies, resting, looking tired.

When Reiner sees this, he finally realizes—they never stood a chance. As he tries to get up, he notices something else.

He's missing a leg.

Now drowning in despair, he sees someone approaching through the forest.

Panicking, Reiner tries to crawl away.

Until—His other arm is severed. And he hears someone laughing, followed by a voice.

Neo: "Did you really think you had a chance from the start? HAHAHAHAHAHA!"

Neo walks toward Reiner at a slow, deliberate pace, openly mocking him.

Reiner frantically scans his surroundings, searching for an escape.

But before he can come up with a plan—A storm of slashes begins to rip him apart.Tearing his pathetic life into hundreds of pieces....Neo looks at Reiner's body.

At first, he thought it would be gratifying or even rejuvenating, but

To say the least…

it was boring.

But since he couldn't change that, he tried to move toward the exhausted pair, who had just fought against four strange monsters.

However, as soon as Neo took his first step, he stumbled and nearly collapsed to the ground.

Forced to sit, he realized his leg had worsened after the battle.

Seeing this, Alex stood up, concerned, and asked.

Alex: "Master, are you okay?"

Neo, looking at his barely functional leg, replied.

Neo: "Can't complain… but I have a mission for you, Alex."

Hearing this, Alex seemed to shake off all his exhaustion. He dropped to one knee like a knight and spoke with an eager expression.

Alex: "Anything for you, my lord."

Neo briefly reconsidered whether he should send Carina instead, but since Alex was the only one here who wasn't being hunted, he took a deep breath to stay calm and said.

Neo: "I need you to go to the city, buy us some clothes, and find a good hiding spot."

Alex saluted and responded.

Alex: "Your wish is my command, Master!"

Like a madman, Alex dashed at full speed toward the city.

Meanwhile, Neo released Brownie and ordered him to hunt something to eat while he prepared a fire to burn the bodies.

As Neo waited for the others, he checked the rewards from his last mission.

[CONGRATULATIONS, HOST! YOU COMPLETED THE MISSION IN THE BEST WAY POSSIBLE.]

[REWARDS: +5% FUSION WITH THE CURRENT CHARACTER AND AN ADVANCED UTILITY SPIN.]

[REWARDS: +5% FUSION WITH THE CURRENT CHARACTER AND AN ADVANCED UTILITY SPIN.]

Looking at the roulette, he already felt annoyed—last time he got this, he ended up with a damn Playboy magazine.

But considering his current situation, he needed whatever he could get.

After a few minutes of hesitation, he used the cursed roulette.

A massive silver wheel appeared before him, spinning at an impossible speed. After a few seconds, it finally stopped, and five messages appeared in front of Neo.

[CONGRATULATIONS, YOU WON...]

[$200 GIFT CARD FOR WALMART]

Neo stared at it, genuinely unsure whether this was good or bad, but he ignored it for now and checked the other rewards.

[CONGRATULATIONS, YOU WON...][URAHARA'S SHOP IN THE HUMAN WORLD, WITHOUT THE TRAINING GROUNDS.]

Neo: "???"

At that moment, he was completely baffled. No, baffled wasn't enough—he didn't understand anything. So, he asked the system:

"What the hell is this, system? How did I get a house from a roulette?!"

The system, as always, responded immediately.

[THE SYSTEM-LINKED ROULETTE CAN PERFECTLY COPY ANYTHING FROM OTHER UNIVERSES INTO THE HOST'S. IF YOU HAD READ THE UTILITY ROULETTE SPECIFICATIONS, YOU WOULD HAVE REALIZED THAT IT CAN GRANT YOU ANYTHING. THE ONLY EXCEPTION IS LIVING BEINGS, HOST.]

Reading that response, Neo realized that, by that logic, he could even summon a damn nuclear bomb.

But to avoid overthinking things, he decided to hold back for now.

Neo checked what else he had won from the roulette.

[CONGRATULATIONS, YOU WON...][A SUSPICIOUS SEED]

Neo stared at it for a second, unsure of how to react. At this moment, it could be literally anything—from a carnivorous plant to a tree made of gold. There was no way to tell.

[CONGRATULATIONS, YOU WON...][A JUJUTSU BLACKSMITH'S WORK JOURNAL]

Ho~, now this was useful. He had no idea how to use it himself, but Alex could probably put it to good use—crafting weapons to sell and even forging one for Carina so she could defend herself and kill curses.

[CONGRATULATIONS, YOU WON...][A HEALING POTION FROM NAZARICK]

This was an incredible item... but useless for now. Why?

Because this thing was insanely powerful—almost capable of bringing someone back from the dead. Using it for anything less than a mortal wound would be a complete waste.

As Neo stared at his rewards, he suddenly noticed something. He was starting to know things—things he hadn't learned before, as if they were seeping into his mind unnoticed. It was smooth, natural, like genuine learning.

It was incredibly useful, easy to retain, and nearly impossible to forget.

Two hours later, as he waited for the others, Carina and Alex arrived at the same time.

But just as they were about to greet him, their eyes widened in shock, and they both shouted in concern.

Alex: MASTER! ARE YOU OKAY?!

Carina: Yeah, what happened to you?!

Neo was confused for a moment—until Alex grabbed his dead phone and used its black screen as a mirror.

Neo took one look at his reflection and screamed.

Neo: WHAT THE FUCK?!
