It happens in life, but for this to happen, all the heads of all companies must be blind idiots who do not see the benefit of Richards' inventions. But Reed himself might not want to sell the patents. Many scientific geniuses became villains because of money and the setup of competitors: Octopus, Dynamo, Shocker, Vulture, Lizard, Smart Guy, Ivanko, Spot.
