Chapter 95: Chapter 95: Exposure and Aftermath
The man lying in front of them,
His name was Bruce Banner?
So… he really was that green giant from earlier?
Tony Stark found it hard to believe.
Sure,
Carl had already told him that the Hulk was once human.
But seeing it with his own eyes was something else entirely.
Tony couldn't help but ask,
"This guy… he's really that big monster from earlier?"
Betty nodded.
"Yes. That was Bruce."
"…Wow. That's insane,"
Tony muttered, shaking his head in disbelief.
"Well, we can talk more inside."
With that, Tony flew back toward the villa.
Carl followed him in,
and Betty Ross, struggling slightly, tried to lift Bruce's unconscious body.
But Carl had already made him fall asleep,
And Bruce had reverted to his human form.
Seeing this,
Carl stepped forward, effortlessly lifted Bruce Banner,
and carried him inside.
"Thank you," Betty said softly.
Carl replied calmly,
"You're welcome."
Inside the villa,
Tony had already taken off his armor.
Upon seeing Carl enter, he greeted him warmly,
"Mr. Superman, welcome!"
"And of course, welcome to you too, Miss Ross."
"And to our big friend there."
After the brief pleasantries, Carl asked,
"Where's Ethan? Didn't see him around."
"Oh, he said he wanted to do something useful,
so I arranged for him to work in the company."
"Right now? Probably sleeping at my place in New York."
Carl nodded.
"Fair enough."
"Drinking on an empty stomach's not great," Tony added.
"Anyone hungry? How about a late-night snack?"
"I'm down," Carl said. "I could go for some grilled meat."
"No problem. Miss Ross?"
"I'm fine, thank you."
"Alright then."
Tony nodded and called out,
"JARVIS, order two portions of grilled meat."
"And throw in three cheeseburgers."
[Understood, sir.]
And so,
Carl sat down at Tony's place,
drinking and snacking into the night.
Betty didn't have much of an appetite,
so Tony had a room arranged for both her and Bruce.
The next morning,
Carl quietly returned to his own home.
After all,
he couldn't exactly live at Tony's place forever.
He finished breakfast, washed up,
and then sat down on the couch to relax,
mindlessly flipping through channels.
But something on the news caught his attention.
Carl raised an eyebrow slightly.
"Last night, something unusual happened in Harlem…"
"Several eyewitnesses claimed…"
"They saw a monstrous creature, nearly the size of a building."
"The creature looked terrifying, like a demon from hell."
"It caused widespread destruction…"
"Tossing cars around like toys…"
Then,
A video clip appeared on screen.
It showed the Abomination,
rampaging wildly down a city street.
The footage was a little grainy,
but the chaos was unmistakable.
Clearly,
a passerby had recorded the event on their phone.
The anchor's voice continued:
"Thankfully, no deaths were reported from last night's incident."
"And many people claim…"
"They saw Superman and Iron Man on the scene."
"Moreover, "
"That Iron Man was none other than the well-known Tony Stark."
"These two unexpected heroes are credited with defeating the massive monster."
The footage rolled again,
This time showing Carl, clad in his black suit, floating in midair.
Not far from him,
a red-and-gold armored figure hovered above the ground,
jet thrusters blazing from his feet.
Even on screen,
the man's faceplate lifted to reveal Tony Stark's unmistakable face.
So yes,
That red-and-gold figure was no robot,
It was a suit.
And inside that suit was Tony Stark himself.
Near them,
the Abomination's giant corpse lay sprawled across the asphalt,
headless and motionless.
Clearly,
the creature was dead.
This video was much clearer than the last.
You could even make out Tony's face in full detail.
Whoever recorded this,
must've had professional equipment.
"And at the scene, "
"Government agents were spotted as well."
"Helicopters, armored vehicles… all present."
"Clearly, the authorities knew more than they're letting on."
"But they've shared nothing with the public."
"What exactly was the monster the government tried to take down?"
"Why keep it secret from civilians?"
"Was that really Superman in the footage? Was that truly Tony Stark?"
"None of this has been officially confirmed."
"Our reporters have reached out to Stark Industries and military officials for comment…"
"Unfortunately, neither party has responded."
"We'll continue following this story and bring updates as soon as we have them."
"Huh… someone actually managed to record all that?"
Carl said to himself as he watched the news.
Still,
he wasn't the least bit surprised.
These days,
anyone with a smartphone could film something in an instant.
And last night,
the battle happened in a city district,
on a busy main road.
It would've been more surprising not to get caught on camera.
Carl wasn't upset about being filmed.
He didn't care.
After all,
he never went out of his way to hide his identity.
If he had wanted to,
He could've worn a mask or concealed his face.
But he never did.
Because Carl never intended to hide.
His strength spoke for itself.
If anyone tried to mess with him, he'd deal with it.
More importantly,
The footage only showed him and Tony in action.
To ordinary people,
that didn't pose any real threat.
In fact,
Carl considered the publicity a good thing.
Why?
Because the video clearly featured Tony Stark.
With such attention,
Stark Industries' stock was bound to soar.
Carl glanced at the time.
9:02 AM.
Markets were open.
He opened his laptop and checked Stark Industries' stock.
Sure enough,
Within minutes of opening, it had jumped 10%.
To say the news hadn't had an impact…
would be absurd.
And as time passed,
Carl was sure it would keep climbing.
The video footage alone was great PR.
But if Tony Stark publicly confirmed the events,
Then the stock price would absolutely explode.
Whether Tony would do that, though,
wasn't something Carl could control.
But from what he knew of Stark…
Tony was not the type to keep quiet.
"Yeah… I'm in a pretty good mood today."
"Might go see Skye…"
"Do something fun. Maybe go shopping."
Carl smiled,
and vanished.
Elsewhere,
in a certain office,
General Ross was watching the exact same news broadcast.
But unlike Carl,
he was in no mood to go shopping.
His expression was dark, nearly thunderous.
He had lost control of the Abomination.
He had also failed to capture the Hulk.
And now,
the entire incident had been exposed on national television.
Not a single part of this was going well.
