Chapter 28: Chapter 28: Mr. Macmillan
Improve spellcasting level, and Ernie Macmillan?
These two pieces of information hit Noah at the same time, leaving him momentarily unable to react.
Spellcasting level was tied to both spellcasting skills and magical power. The first was relatively easy to improve, but the second was more of a headache for Noah.
Because, quite frankly, he had no idea how Hogwarts actually improved magical power!
He had been at Hogwarts for half a year now, but to be honest, he had never seen a single course that covered something like that.
It seemed like people at Hogwarts mostly relied on talent and bloodline to develop their magic.
Of course, Noah found that hard to believe. It was impossible to advance very far on bloodline alone.
The most likely method for improving magical power was through continuous learning and spellcasting, gradually stimulating and strengthening one's magic over time, right?
Noah stroked his chin, deep in thought. Suddenly, a name popped into his head—Doctor Strange, Stephen Strange.
Strange had originally been an exceptional surgeon, but after his hands were crippled in an accident, he had searched for a cure in vain. Desperate, he traveled to the mystical Kamar-Taj in Nepal, where he sought out the legendary Sorcerer Supreme, the Ancient One.
Thanks to his exceptional talent, Strange was accepted as a disciple and taught the art of wielding magic through spiritual focus and spellcasting.
There, he never learned any method of condensing magical power; instead, he accumulated strength gradually through relentless spellcasting and practice.
And his greatest breakthrough came when he used the Time Stone and locked himself in an endless loop against Dormammu!
Through that battle, his magical power and spiritual strength grew to an unimaginable level, ultimately making him the next Sorcerer Supreme.
"It really seems like there's no clear way to improve magic and mental strength in this world. Otherwise, why would the wizards on Earth be so average? The only truly formidable one was the Ancient One, and she had the Time Stone."
As Noah pondered this, a sudden realization struck him, making his heartbeat quicken.
This world might lack a method for systematically improving magical power, but that didn't mean he didn't have one!
Noah's own growth wasn't based on constantly casting spells—it was built on structured, meditation-like training!
His thoughts raced. If he shared this method, wouldn't he be able to win over a large number of wizards?
He had unknowingly been holding onto an invaluable treasure all along!
However, Noah quickly forced himself to calm down. His current strength was still too low. If he revealed this secret now, who knew how much trouble it would bring?
He decided to wait—at least until he was strong enough to handle the consequences. And even then, he would only introduce it within his own trusted circle.
"I don't even know who I can fully trust yet. But first, I need to learn some magic to make people keep their mouths shut. I don't want word of this spreading everywhere."
Noah shook his head, deciding not to dwell on it for now.
Shifting his focus, he recalled the name Lance had mentioned earlier—Ernie Macmillan.
If Noah remembered correctly, Ernie Macmillan was a Hufflepuff, and his future achievements were not small. He was destined to become the Hufflepuff prefect!
Despite being a pure-blood wizard, he had a strong sense of justice and despised anything evil—though he did have a tendency to go weak in the knees at the mere mention of Voldemort.
In his second year, he even led his Hufflepuff classmates in protecting Justin Finch-Fletchley, a Muggle-born.
Later, during his senior years, he consistently made the right decisions and eventually overcame his fears during the final battle.
When Professor McGonagall ordered the prefects to safely evacuate all students, Ernie had stood firm, refusing to leave and choosing to fight instead.
It could be said that he was a determined and righteous person. He was also talented and held no prejudice against Muggle-borns.
But most importantly, he had an admirable quality—he could admit when he was wrong and correct himself!
"I didn't expect Lance to know this guy, and it seems like they're on good terms!"
Noah thought to himself. If he could bring Ernie into his circle, it would be a huge win.
A talent like him, with such a strong moral compass, would be a great addition.
The only question was—would he be willing to join?
"Well, Noah? Do you know him?" Lance asked, noticing that Noah had been lost in thought.
"Ah? Macmillan? Yeah, of course, I know him! But how do you know him?" Noah asked, snapping back to reality.
"Come on, our families have some connections. We were friends as kids and still are. I just thought he'd end up in Slytherin, though."
"But you didn't end up in Slytherin either," Noah pointed out.
"Damn right, I couldn't stand the environment there. Besides, my entire family is Ravenclaw! If that filthy old hat had sorted me into Slytherin, I swear I would've packed my bags and bought a ticket home that very night!"
"Uh… okay," Noah muttered, rubbing his nose. That line sounded oddly familiar.
Shaking his head, Noah decided not to overthink it. The priority now was to recruit Ernie.
"Since he's your friend, then my answer is yes. I know him from class—he's got excellent grades, and I heard he's not a fan of the Slytherin crowd, right?"
"Of course! If he liked Slytherin's ways, we wouldn't have been friends in the first place. So, should I invite him to the Room of Requirement after class tomorrow?"
"That would be perfect."
"Alright, I'll bring him over."
Lance nodded, sealing the deal.
He was genuinely excited. Ernie was a good friend—practically a childhood buddy. Of course, he was happy to bring him into the fold. And it didn't hurt that he'd get to show off a little in front of him.
Noah smiled. This was another step toward fulfilling Dumbledore's request.
Although he hadn't met Ernie in person yet, Noah had a strong feeling that he wouldn't refuse. After all, this was something Dumbledore himself had approved of.
"Hey… if I could recruit all the future prefects, wouldn't that be perfect?"
Then, after a moment's thought, he added,
"Uh… never mind. Let's skip the Slytherins."
