Chapter 125: Chapter 125: Mephisto's Shipwreck
Above the skies of New York, countless angels with magnificent white wings poured through a radiant portal of divine light.
Simultaneously, the streets below fractured with violent tremors, molten magma surging through the cracks. Hordes of demons, wreathed in dark miasma, crawled forth from the depths and released primal roars that echoed across the heavens.
Suspended in the air between these forces, the lords of hell led by Lucifer himself unleashed a merciless slaughter upon the angelic host. These holy and noble warriors, unprepared for such overwhelming darkness, fell in great numbers, their celestial light extinguished by infernal power.
...
Within the Avengers base, a flicker of unease crossed Mephisto's eyes.
Yet millennia of experience as the Lord of Hell steadied his resolve almost instantly. He snorted dismissively, "Just you alone? What makes you think you can trap me, even for a moment?"
Jason's lips curved into a knowing smile. "Of course I can't stop you with my strength alone. I have no delusions about that."
He leaned forward, voice dropping to a deliberate tone. "But what makes you assume I'm relying solely on myself?"
"Who else could possibly assist you?" Mephisto scoffed. "God King Odin? He won't dirty his hands in this conflict. As for the Supreme Sorceress, she's far too preoccupied at the moment!"
Jason shook his head slowly. "You're right. They truly can't help me right now." His eyes gleamed with calculated purpose. "But I wonder if you remember that time when the Chitauri army invaded New York under Thanos's command, and I acquired two... particular little souvenirs."
Mephisto's expression shifted dramatically.
With measured deliberation, Jason raised his left hand from beneath the table, revealing a mechanical glove that glinted menacingly in the light. Two brilliant gems embedded within it pulsed with cosmic energy.
"The Mind Scepter provided me not only with a gem," Jason explained, his voice casual yet tinged with deadly intent, "but also the methodology to harness its immense power. Fortuitously, I have several exceptionally gifted scientists under my command, and they've crafted something extraordinarily useful for me."
Mephisto's countenance darkened with growing concern, though his voice remained defiant. "You honestly believe you can defeat me with merely two Infinity Stones?"
"That's precisely the effect I was hoping for, Lord of Hell," Jason replied with quiet satisfaction.
Before Mephisto could respond, Jason snapped the fingers of his jewel-adorned left hand.
Instantaneously, the surrounding space transformed into an impenetrable iron wall. Even the air molecules themselves froze in place, rendered completely immobile by the overwhelming power. Simultaneously, a massive black portal materialized from nothing, enveloping Jason's entire office in otherworldly darkness.
Sensing imminent peril, Mephisto summoned the magical energies within him, unleashing them outward in a frenzied surge. Within heartbeats, the solidified space around his form shattered under the pressure of his power.
In that pivotal moment, he immediately attempted to cast space-manipulation magic, desperate to escape this unexpected trap.
Unfortunately for the demon lord, Jason's domain had reached a formidable tier of power. While focusing his full might on countering Mephisto's escape, the gems in his glove discharged a blinding ray of concentrated mental energy.
Despite Mephisto's valiant efforts to resist the onslaught, his space magic faltered for just a fraction of a second—but that infinitesimal delay proved catastrophic.
In a disorienting flash, Mephisto found himself transported to a vast expanse of gray, featureless space.
"What... is this place?" he demanded, momentarily bewildered.
His confusion lasted only briefly. As a seasoned and knowledgeable Lord of Hell, he quickly recognized the truth of his surroundings.
This was the God Domain.
Mephisto stood frozen in shock. How could this mortal possess access to such a realm?
Before him, the space distorted and rippled as Jason materialized, appearing unnervingly calm.
"Mephisto," Jason proposed with casual confidence, "how about we negotiate a deal?"
"What do you want?" the demon lord growled.
"I can grant you your life," Jason offered magnanimously, "but in exchange, you must relinquish the throne of the Lord of Hell."
"Hmph! Pure delusion!" Mephisto snarled.
Following his defiant words, Mephisto's body began to swell and transform, hellfire erupting from every pore. His skin turned crimson, two massive horns erupted from his skull, and a pointed tail whipped behind him as he completed his metamorphosis into his true demonic form.
"You insolent wretch!" he thundered. "Die!"
Mephisto roared with unbridled fury, his enormous clawed hand lunging toward Jason's throat.
But when his fingers should have crushed flesh, they passed through nothingness—Jason was merely an illusion.
With a savage clench of his fist, the phantom before him dissolved into nothingness.
In the next instant, hundreds of identical images of Jason manifested throughout the realm—hovering in the air, standing on the ground, suspended above Mephisto's head. The demon lord's eyes widened in astonishment; he couldn't distinguish which, if any, was the real adversary.
The chorus of voices from hundreds of Jasons spoke in perfect unison, their combined declaration reverberating throughout the Kingdom: "Old Mephisto, accept your defeat. This is my God Domain, and you cannot escape. Surrender your throne as Lord of Hell, and I shall spare your existence!"
Mephisto unleashed roar after roar of defiance, scorching flames erupting from his massive form. He resembled a living inferno, crushing and incinerating the surrounding space with his mere presence.
Yet despite employing every technique and power at his disposal, he remained trapped within the divine realm.
Jason observed Mephisto's frenzied rage with calculated composure. With a mere thought, innumerable ethereal chains materialized from the void.
Like serpents hunting prey, they coiled around Mephisto's thrashing form.
The demon struggled ferociously, shattering some of the chains with raw strength.
Unfortunately for him, the chains were endless and relentless.
First they secured his massive hooves, then constricted around his torso, binding his arms, and finally encircling his horned head.
Once Mephisto was rendered completely immobile, Jason raised his fist purposefully.
Immediately, Mephisto released an agonized scream as substantial amounts of dark energy began pouring from his imprisoned body.
"Jason, you bastard!" he howled. "What are you doing to me?"
"I'm extracting every ounce of power you possess," Jason replied with merciless calm.
As Jason's hand pressed forward with increasing pressure, black mist continued to billow from Mephisto's form, his impressive stature diminishing rapidly.
Eventually, the demonic appearance receded completely, transforming back into the familiar visage of Tony Stark.
There was no need for restraints now. Within the God Domain, he possessed no greater power than any ordinary mortal.
The vast energies that had once coursed through his form were now completely absorbed, becoming nourishment for the divine realm itself.
"Surrender the throne of the Lord of Hell," Jason demanded, "and we can discuss the terms of your retirement."
"Never!" Mephisto spat through gritted teeth.
Jason shrugged with exaggerated nonchalance. "If you refuse, I'll simply imprison you here for eternity."
He circled his captive slowly. "Trapped in Tony Stark's mortal form, you'll experience hunger and thirst like never before."
His voice dropped to a menacing whisper. "You'll never die—I'll ensure that—but I guarantee you won't be able to endure the torment forever. Eventually, you'll be reduced to devouring the very dirt and stones beneath you to ease your suffering."
Jason's eyes gleamed with dark promise. "And even if your soul should dissipate after thousands of years of agony, I possess the power to preserve it indefinitely."
Mephisto glared at him with undisguised hatred, prompting Jason to wave his hand dismissively. The demon lord went flying backward as though struck by a speeding truck, crashing violently into the formless ground.
"I find your expression distasteful," Jason remarked coldly.
Approaching Mephisto, who lay sprawled and disoriented on the ground, Jason placed his foot firmly on the fallen demon's head. "Every Lord of Hell possesses a uniquely consecrated throne. Only by occupying it can one receive hell's acknowledgment and claim legitimate dominion over that infernal domain."
He increased the pressure of his boot. "Mephisto, you have two choices: reveal the throne's location willingly, or I'll systematically slaughter every one of your infernal subjects, storm your palace, and construct a new throne from their flesh and bones."
"Ha! Meaningless threats," Mephisto laughed weakly. "What power do you possess that could possibly eradicate my legions?"
"Hmph!"
Jason made a sweeping gesture, conjuring spectral images of a thousand demon generals before Mephisto's eyes.
"With you imprisoned outside your territory, who remains to oppose me? I can deploy nuclear weapons to reduce your Castle to smoldering ruins, and any demons fortunate enough to escape the initial devastation will find my forces relentlessly hunting them down."
Jason's voice hardened to granite. "Mephisto, abandon any delusions of resurgence from Hell's depths. I won't grant you that opportunity."
He continued with merciless clarity: "When all your subjects lie dead and your territories stand conquered, your existence will permanently cease."
"Bastard!" Mephisto snarled, mustering his remaining strength to lunge at Jason with the ferocity of a rabid beast.
After effortlessly repelling the attack with a casual wave of his hand, Jason shook his head with mock disappointment. "It seems you're unwilling to cooperate."
His eyes glinted with dangerous intent. "Very well. Your elite forces are currently engaged in assaulting Heaven itself. Let's see how many of your allies come to your aid when I march upon hell to besiege your palace."
