Nova smiled at the Wizard King, a calm confidence in his eyes, and shook his head.
"Although I can use time magic, Your Majesty," he said evenly, "that's not the only element at my disposal."
Without even reaching for his grimoire, Nova lifted a hand.
In an instant, five distinct elemental magics shimmered into existence above his open palm — flickering flames, a coil of water, crackling lightning, a swirling wind current, and a shard of glimmering earth. Each one perfectly formed, held steady as if it was nothing.
Julius's eyes widened, that familiar gleam of obsession and excitement flooding his expression.
Marx, to his credit, didn't let his jaw drop, but a sharp breath caught in his throat. Five basic elemental affinities. Then time. That alone was ridiculous.
But before the thought could settle, the elemental motes faded — and Nova wasn't done.
With a flick of his hands, a dense orb of Darkness Magic formed in one palm, its oppressive weight thickening the air.
And then —
A radiant sphere of Light Magic bloomed in his other hand. Pure, crisp, and blindingly bright, its glow sharp as a sunbeam slicing through storm clouds.
Silence.
For the first time in the room, even Julius's grin faltered for a half-second, his gaze locking onto the orb.
That wasn't a trick. That was LIGHT MAGIC.
A rare affinity — one traditionally born in certain royal bloodlines. The kind wielded by select nobles of high pedigree.
But paired with a four-leaf clover grimoire?
That was stuff of legends.
Julius's smile returned, sharper now, golden eyes gleaming.
"Light magic… in a four-leaf. Now that's something you don't see every generation."
Celise, standing gracefully at Nova's side, felt her breath catch in her throat.
She'd known he was powerful — the Spatial and Thunder Magic he'd casually shown her during their time together was already impressive enough for a noble heir.
But this…
This was something else entirely.
Five elements. Time. Darkness. And now Light Magic — the most sacred magic of the Clover Kingdom, so closely tied to the royal lineage.
Her heart pounded once, sharp and sudden in her chest.
But her noble upbringing held fast; she kept her face smooth, her posture perfect. Only the faintest flicker in her amber eyes betrayed the storm of shock beneath.
By the gods… how many secrets is this man hiding?
Marx's brow twitched.
He didn't need a grimoire's pages to tell him what this meant.
Sure — the royal family occasionally produced Light Magic users.
But this wasn't a Silva, Vermillion, or Kira.
This was a young noble, barely twenty, casually displaying Light, Time, Darkness, Spatial, and five elements — all without his grimoire even open.
He let out a long, quiet breath.
Looks normal, huh?
But no.
Anyone like this was going to set off pure chaos in the kingdom. And in the royal court.
Nobles would panic. The King himself might take personal notice.
Thankfully, Nova's a noble, not a commoner. His noble blood would protect him. It would stop them from moving against him.
They won't try to eliminate him. They'll try to bind him. Secure him. Offer titles, alliances, marriage contracts… whatever it takes to keep a potential storm like this under their control.
He adjusted the documents in his arms, his face a perfect mask of composure, though his sharp blue eyes lingered on Nova a heartbeat longer.
Another lunatic. And another headache waiting to happen.
Meanwhile, Nova let both spheres dissipate as casually as snuffing a candle.
And with a flick of his hand, a clean, stable spatial portal opened midair.
He reached through it — and his hand reappeared from a matching portal behind Julius's desk, giving a lazy wave before withdrawing.
Julius burst into delighted laughter.
"Spatial magic too? Hah! Now you're just showing off."
Of course he is… the mad bastard.
Marx exhaled quietly.
----
Nova let the lingering mana in the room settle, then offered a faint, almost apologetic smile.
"Although I'd prefer to keep the full reality of my magic a secret, Your Majesty," he said smoothly, "I believe demonstrating that I can control almost all elements… should be impressive enough for now, wouldn't you agree?"
Silence.
And then — like clockwork — every brow in the room twitched.
Julius's grin froze for a split second.
Marx's eyes narrowed ever so slightly.
Even Celise blinked, the corner of her lips twitching despite her noble training.
This smug bastard.
He just casually displayed mastery over time, light, darkness, spatial magic, and every basic elemental affinity — and still had the audacity to call that "enough."
If that was just "enough"…
Then what the hell qualified as "excessive" for him?
Julius was the first to recover, though the gleam in his eye had sharpened, edging into dangerous curiosity. He let out a short, amused exhale — half laugh, half marvel.
"Hah… you really are something else."
Marx didn't speak, but his thoughts were less charitable.
Enough, my ass.
With a weary sigh, he mentally flipped open the well-worn pages of his personal mental ledger — the one labeled "Confirmed Lunatics of the Clover Kingdom".
There, right below Yami Sukehiro, Jack the Ripper, Rill Boismortier, and — naturally — Julius Novachrono himself, Marx neatly added a new name.
Nova Ashbourne.
And for good measure, he underlined it.
Twice.
Great. Another one.
He exhaled slowly, adjusting the documents in his arms, already bracing for the chaos this one would inevitably drag behind him.
Celise kept her expression neutral, dignified as ever, but inside her head she was shouting the same thing as everyone else.
Just how deep does this man's abyss run?
Nova, oblivious — or perhaps very aware — simply offered a polite incline of his head, as though this was all just proper decorum.
----
Julius watched Nova with a grin that didn't quite reach his eyes, his fingers idly drumming against the desk.
He should have known the significance of Light Magic… and he still showed off. He knew that by showing it here, it won't take a second and it will be known by the royal family. Maybe that's his goal, to foster relation with royal family? As it would be very beneficial for his business, with backing of royal family. But if he had bad thought, my own strength is enough to deal with him. But this guy isn't a such bad guy but he is still a bastard. Impressive enough for now?
And Julius, in his heart of hearts, loved bastards like that.
Trouble. The dangerous kind. My favorite kind.
With a soft chuckle, he picked up the ring Nova had presented earlier, letting it roll between his fingers.
"Now then — about this little artifact of yours." He eyed it with a gleam of curiosity. "I've never seen a spatial storage ring like this before. It's… cleaner. More stable. And those time fluctuations… interesting."
Nova gave a relaxed, almost casual smile.
"Normal spatial rings can be created easily enough, Your Majesty. Most artifact craftsmen can manage them — they're graded by how much space they hold internally."
He gestured to the ring in Julius's hand.
"But the one you're holding? That's a little different. Only I can craft it at the moment — and perhaps you could too, given the proper knowledge."
His smile sharpened a fraction.
"Because to forge it properly, you'd need both spatial and time magic affinities. And the technique to anchor temporal runes into an independent dimensional pocket without destabilizing the storage space."
Julius's nodded thoughtfully.
Then they talked about various topic and even on magic elements and artifacts.
---
Julius glanced at the clock, then turned his sharp gaze back to Nova, the gleam in his golden eyes thoughtful yet unmistakably calculating. "With your versatile magic… you could be very useful within the Magic Knights," he said, his tone casual on the surface, but carrying an undercurrent of intent no one in the room missed.
The air tensed for a moment. Marx straightened slightly in his chair, already mentally estimating the kind of political storm this man could stir within the squads. Celise's amber gaze flickered toward Nova as well, a hint of wariness beneath her otherwise composed demeanor. She knew better than anyone that Julius Novachrono wasn't the type to waste a move without a reason.
Nova, however, didn't immediately answer. He tapped his fingers once against the arm of his chair, lips quirking in a faint smirk before shaking his head. "It would take up too much of my time," he replied, his voice smooth, polite, and completely unapologetic.
To his credit, Julius didn't even blink. If anything, his grin widened, a glint of amusement and appreciation flashing in his eyes. "Don't worry about that," he countered easily. "Only I and your future squad captain would be authorized to assign you missions—and only the ones that actually matter. The rest of the time? You're free to do as you like. No petty border patrols or pointless bandit hunts."
Nova paused, considering it properly this time. He wasn't naïve. This wasn't just a convenient offer. It was a leash disguised as a favor. Julius wanted a thread tied to him, even if it was a loose one. Smart. The Wizard King was building a relationship, and while Nova disliked the idea of being shackled, having that connection could be useful. Very useful.
After a brief stretch of silence, Nova gave a small nod, a knowing glint in his eye. "Fine. But I'll choose the squad myself."
That drew an immediate reaction. Julius leaned forward, intrigued. "Go ahead."
Both Marx and Celise subtly turned their attention toward him, curiosity sharp in their gazes. Marx, for his part, was already weighing which squad would be the least catastrophic for someone like this. Celise, while outwardly serene, was silently hoping it would be something respectable, something dignified.
Nova's smirk deepened. "I'll join the Black Bulls."
For a moment, there was pure, startled quiet. Then Marx actually coughed, snapping his head toward Nova with a sharp, incredulous look, as if he hadn't quite heard right. Celise's breath caught ever so slightly, eyes widening before she quickly masked the expression beneath a practiced veil of noble composure. Of all the possible choices, of all the elite squads in the kingdom's hierarchy… that one?
Julius, however, threw his head back and laughed, loud and unapologetic, smacking his palm against the desk hard enough to make a stack of parchment wobble. "Hah! Of course you would! Damn it, I should've seen that coming."
The Wizard King grinned wide, shaking his head like a man thoroughly entertained. "Figures someone like you would head straight for that den of chaos. You'll fit right in. Yami's going to love this."
Marx let out a long, exhausted sigh, muttering under his breath as he adjusted the stack of reports in his arms. " Yup definitely a madman, very fitting for that madhouse squad…"
Celise, regaining her serene expression, offered nothing more than a soft sigh through her nose, though inwardly she felt an ache behind her eyes. There goes any hope for a quiet, respectable career…
Nova only grinned, perfectly satisfied. "They looked fun."
Julius chuckled, shaking his head. "Welcome to the kingdom's most unpredictable squad, Nova Ashbourne. You're going to make one hell of a mess."
And Nova, sitting back with smug satisfaction, knew damn well he would.
