Chapter 8: Internal division
"What the hell are these bastards trying to do?! Scum! Bedbugs! Trash!"
Whitehall shouted, staring furiously at the shard of the Immortality Card in his hand. He was so angry that he began cursing out loud. Others might need immortality, but not him.
After all, he was already immortal.
Enraged, Whitehall stormed into Hydra's internal chat group and typed furiously:
"What the hell are you bastards thinking?! Why the Immortality Card shard?! Didn't we agree to choose the Enhancement Card?!"
[Alexander Pierce]: "Just to clarify, I did choose the Enhancement Card!"
[Baron Strucker]: "Same here, I picked the Enhancement Card too."
[Other Hydra Leaders]: "You might not believe this, but we all chose the Enhancement Card."
[Whitehall]: "..."
Muttering curses, Whitehall exited the chat room. As the saying goes, "different paths don't cross", he had no desire to talk to this bunch of degenerates anymore. He was utterly disgusted.
Just as he managed to calm down, he received an unexpected communication request.
[Alexander Pierce]: "You there, old man?"
[Whitehall]: "What do you want?"
[Alexander Pierce]: "I figured your shard is useless. Wanna hand it over to me? You can pick any 0-8-4 item from within S.H.I.E.L.D."
[Whitehall]: "..."
Whitehall was so enraged he trembled, his face turning from blue to red, before roaring:
"Get lost!"
[Alexander Pierce]: "Come on, don't be like that. It's useless to you anyway—why not trade it for something more practical?"
[Marvel List Notification]: Whitehall has left the chat.
Alexander Pierce sighed with regret, then tried reaching out to the other Hydra bosses through the chat room.
But after a full round, he still only had one shard in hand.
Faced with the temptation of immortality, no one would give it up easily, especially not Hydra.
At that moment, Alexander Pierce began to regret choosing the Immortality Card in the first place.
Hydra's appearance at rank nine on the Marvel List had slapped many in the face, especially the S.H.I.E.L.D loyalists.
People like Coulson and Hawkeye.
Ever since Hydra's ranking was revealed, neither of them had said a word in the chat.
Before the ninth-ranked organization was announced, they were still mocking Hydra... only to realize later that the clown was themselves.
Hydra wasn't some crumbling remnant—they had grown in secret into a massive force. Even S.H.I.E.L.D. paled in comparison.
[Isaac Leclerc]: "@Hawkeye @Coulson @Nick Fury — any thoughts? Feeling excited now to work harder?"
[Nick Fury]: "..."
As no one from S.H.I.E.L.D. responded, Isaac tagged someone else:
[Isaac]: "@Tony Stark, what do you think after watching the video?"
[Tony Stark]: "What are you trying to say?"
[Isaac]: "Don't you want revenge?"
[Tony Stark]: "So what if I do?"
[Isaac]: "Join the Celestial Dome."
[Tony Stark]: "I'm Tony Stark—I don't work for anyone. As for revenge, I'll take care of it myself."
[Isaac]: "What a shame..."
Isaac sighed. He'd originally hoped to use this opportunity to recruit Tony Stark into the Celestial Dome. Stark, known as the "man cursed with knowledge," would've been an incredible asset.
Unfortunately, the offer was declined.
Seeing Tony's refusal, Nick Fury, Alexander Pierce, and the others all let out a collective sigh of relief.
Although they didn't know much about Isaac Leclerc—the mysterious figure recruiting people in the Global Chat—they knew one thing for sure: they didn't want Tony Stark joining any organization.
Tony wasn't just the world's top scientist—he was also the richest man alive. Any organization he joined would immediately experience a massive power boost.
That's something neither Hydra nor S.H.I.E.L.D. wanted to see.
Elsewhere, in a small villa, Hank Pym was watching the Marvel Chat feed and sighed:
"Howard Stark was assassinated by Hydra? Damn..."
Before they had fallen out, he and Howard had a good relationship. He never expected his old friend wouldn't die in a car crash... but was killed.
"Hydra, huh...? Must've been something wrong with Operation Paperclip," Hank Pym thought to himself.
In the Global Marvel Chat...
[Human Torch]: "Wait, rewards can be split up? Hydra's not even a real organization—it's more like an alliance."
[Magneto]: "Of course. Otherwise, how could a bunch of rats like that make it to the Marvel List?"
[Mister Fantastic]: "Actually, that's a good thing. It shows the group has structural issues. I mean, it takes nine shards to form a complete Immortality Card. And villains are selfish—no one's going to give up their piece for someone else."
[Professor X]: "An excellent and sharp observation. Such a loose structure isn't something to be feared."
On a barren planet somewhere, Red Skull stared at the shard in his hand, utterly dumbfounded.
He completely agreed with Mister Fantastic. Hydra would likely never manage to gather a full Immortality Card—unless those poor fools somehow found each other in the vastness of the universe.
He never imagined... that he was still considered one of Hydra's leaders.
