Marvel: The Sorcerer in America

Chapter 39: Chapter 39: Cavalry? Mockingbird?

As the man on the left was about to lift his head for a better look, Melinda, quicker than him, was already beneath him, aiming her shot with high precision.

In the next moment, Melinda raised the pistol in her hand and continuously fired towards the guards outside.

The specially silenced pistol emitted only a soft sound, almost inaudible. Each bullet fired contained tree snake venom, which had a very strong anesthetic effect. The two guards hit didn't have time to utter a word before their bodies collapsed to the ground, still holding their fallen weapons.

Almost simultaneously, Barbara swung a pair of short alloy sticks with incredible speed. In one motion, Barbara struck the guard on the right decisively, then pushed the man to the ground with her knee until he fell unconscious. Agilely, Barbara jumped between the two remaining standing guards, thrusting the short alloy sticks forcefully into their chests.

A small explosion sound was heard as the high-voltage electricity inside the sticks spread. The two guards instantly rolled their eyes, their bodies convulsing for a moment before falling unconscious to the floor.

Having quickly completed two anesthetic injections, Melinda bent down and punched the guard beneath her feet right at the temple, causing the man to lose consciousness in an instant.

In less than a second, all six armed guards had been neutralized.

"These guys aren't even qualified for a warm-up," Melinda grumbled, kicking the unconscious guard. With a quick shot, Melinda ensured that the fallen guards would not wake up halfway.

"Let's hurry," Melinda commanded in a firm tone, glancing at Barbara.

"Move it!" Barbara nodded, ready to follow.

The two women quickly surveyed their surroundings, their eyes scanning the path displayed on their glasses. They moved cautiously yet swiftly, their bodies weaving through the dark space with trained skill. However, as soon as they turned, they saw Lance standing in the middle of the room.

In the operating room filled with a foul smell, a group of "demons" was trapped in a shimmering web, struggling to move.

Outside the strange web, there was only one person standing calmly.

Could it be an invisible man?

The two female agents exchanged glances for a moment, then aimed their weapons at the figure simultaneously, ready to face whatever happened next.

"FBI!" Melinda shouted, her voice loud and authoritative.

"Don't move!" Barbara added in a sharper tone.

"Cavalry? Mockingbird?"

Lance's expression changed slightly. He quickly recognized the two, but never expected to meet them both here.

Melinda raised her eyebrows, her eyes narrowing with suspicion: "Do you know us?"

Cavalry and Mockingbird are their code names, and both women are legends in the world of secret services. However, the outside world knows nothing about them. Those names are only recognized among elite agents.

Lance shrugged, responding casually as if it were nothing important: "I just heard about it."

Barbara stared at Lance with a sharp gaze, clearly not believing his words. "It seems our secrecy work isn't very effective; even the outside world knows about us now..." Barbara's voice softened, but there was a hint of anxiety detected at the end of her sentence.

Barbara's voice suddenly stopped, her eyes narrowing as she processed what she had just heard. "In other words, are you also our colleague?"

The job of a secret agent is to infiltrate, and although their code names might be known, the identity of their organization is highly classified. If that leaks, it could have fatal consequences. However, if the one who knows them is a colleague from the same organization, then the situation is certainly different.

Melinda looked at Lance with a sharp gaze. "Whether you are an agent or not, please stand there honestly now..."

Before Melinda could finish her sentence, Lance casually raised his finger.

*Cracks!*

The beautiful magical fan shot towards Lance at an incredible speed, spinning agilely. Their eyes could only catch glimpses of the movement, and in the blink of an eye, the fan crossed their hands, effortlessly shattering the weapons they held. The fan returned to Lance's hand smoothly, as if nothing had happened.

"I don't like being threatened with a gun," Lance said in a low tone, his expression then turning serious. "Besides..." Lance casually waved his magical fan, and dazzling lines of energy began to dance around his wrist, emanating an undeniable aura. "This is just a warning. If you continue to provoke, it won't just be your weapons that break, but your hands as well."

Melinda and Barbara exchanged shocked glances, their eyes unable to contain the sudden mix of awe and rising tension.

It was like a vast network of energy, forming intricate patterns in the air.

The fan, made of swirling energy, radiated an indescribable aura, like something more than just a physical object. It was not merely an item, but a kind of living entity, flowing with unseen power.

What is happening?!

SHIELD's mission is to confront threats that exceed human understanding. They are trained to identify and deal with individuals with extraordinary abilities—whether acquired naturally or created through experimentation.

Many people in this world possess powers that surpass what ordinary individuals can imagine. Some of these abilities emerge accidentally, while others are controlled with specific purposes. SHIELD analyzes these individuals, providing different handling depending on the nature and potential threat they pose.

Depending on the characteristics and dangers they present, SHIELD conducts strict surveillance—including 24-hour monitoring if necessary, even detaining them in special prisons designed to contain superpowers.

SHIELD has specialized containment facilities and research institutions that have dealt with various major threats throughout history. They are no strangers to individuals with extraordinary abilities.

However, the abilities of the mysterious man before them were clearly the most shocking. This was something even they did not know how to respond to.

Melinda rubbed her wrist, which was starting to ache, her eyes looking at Lance with hesitation, trying to assess the threat in front of her. "You know our code names and our origins," Melinda said cautiously, her voice echoing slightly in the tense room. "So, can you introduce yourself? Who are you really? Is this... your superpower?"
