Chapter 38: EPISODE 38: “Unthreaded”
🔺 "To fight a god, you must first fight your reflection."
❗ Previously on Tokyo Avengers:
The Scarlet Tower collapsed… upwards.
Blood Seraphim completed his ritual, becoming a citywide curse — the "Scarlet Sky."
Now Tokyo bleeds red threads. Buildings distort. Citizens obey invisible rhythms.
The Avengers have been scattered — each trapped in a distorted version of their own past, twisted by the Scarlet Sky.
[Scene 1 – Nekoburst: No More Nine Lives]
Nekoburst slams into the side of a haunted train car drifting through a crimson rail line.
She fights herself — or something pretending to be.
YOUNG NEKO (darkly):
"Why did you abandon me, Rika? Why did claws feel better than care?"
Nekoburst fights fast — teleporting in bursts, slicing through illusions — but this younger version matches her step-for-step, taunting her.
NEKOBURST (snarling):
"Because this world doesn't pet strays — it puts them down."
She heel-drops her younger self straight through the train roof, then collapses, panting.
Suddenly — a voice crackles through a floating speaker-thread:
"Avenger Signature Detected. One Unthreaded Soul Remaining."
The speaker implodes.
[Scene 2 – Onmyo Flare vs. the Faceless Heir]
Renji faces a doppelganger wielding his exact spell techniques — faster, colder, perfect.
"You held back for years. You thought grief was sacred.
I sharpened it into something useful."
They clash in a flurry of sigils and blade strikes.
Renji is overwhelmed, barely holding the spell-guard line.
He's forced to use a forbidden sigil: Echo Burn: Mirror Split — slicing off part of his own spirit to reflect the attack.
ONMYO FLARE (gritting his teeth):
"You're not my heir. You're my fear."
His blades cross, severing the phantom. It explodes into paper.
But now Renji's arm trembles — the spell cost his ability to cast with both hands for the next day.
[Scene 3 – Starwave's Stage of Lies]
Starwave performs in front of a sea of faceless fans, all chanting:
"Encore. Encore. Encore."
She turns, panting, heels cracked.
Another clone walks on stage — limping, bleeding, still singing.
"If you're a hero... why are you still trying to impress them?"
Starwave's eyes harden.
She drops the mic.
Raises her heel.
And stomps it — shattering the stage's sigil base.
STARWAVE (out of breath):
"They'll cheer when I save them.
Not when I bleed for their applause."
[Scene 4 – Kuro Ōkami in the Shrine of Mirrors]
Kuro faces the beast inside — literally.
A moonlit wolf-form towers over him, eyes glowing, speaking in his voice.
"You don't deserve this name. You never howled for peace.
Only for survival."
Kuro smiles — bitter.
"Good. Then I won't ask for peace now either."
He lunges, full speed, claws glowing — Wolf Claw Rush: Crescent Descent.
He splits the wolf in two. The moon above shatters.
Kuro walks out, blood on his arms, body trembling.
"Now howl back."
[Scene 5 – Scarlet Onna's Threadless World]
Sayo finds herself in a version of Tokyo with no thread. No sigils. No magic.
She's powerless. Alone.
Her mother's voice echoes faintly:
"Power is not in the thread, Sayo.
It's in the hand that chooses where to cut."
She kneels. Takes one of her hairpins.
And draws a manual sigil — with blood from her palm.
The air shimmers — she reactivates a single binding thread — enough to bring her team's signatures back online.
"Unthreaded… not undone."
[Scene 6 – The Reconnection]
A red glyph appears in the skies over Tokyo — a pulse from Scarlet Onna's homemade thread spell.
It signals:
"TOKYO AVENGERS — LOCKED IN. REFORM."
Each member sees it.
Each whispers:
"I'm still here."
[Final Scene – In the Sky Above Tokyo]
Blood Seraphim now exists as a giant spectral figure, stretching across the sky — almost invisible unless the moonlight hits just right.
He watches them regroup.
BLOOD SERAPHIM (to himself):
"So you survived the Unthreading.
Then let's begin the new Tokyo —
With a wedding made from war."
🎴 [END CARD – TOKYO AVENGERS]
