Chapter 242: Chapter 242: Full Offensive
Outside the prison, several members of Hydra's combat unit stood behind Bartok. Their fierce gazes revealed their hardened nature—they were all prisoners personally captured by S.H.I.E.L.D. agents in the past.
Pierce addressed Bartok, "Didn't you always want to face off against Captain America? Here's your chance. Take a team and stop him. Under no circumstances should he disrupt my plans."
Bartok chuckled lightly, his eyes burning with fighting spirit.
Outside the prison, countless vehicles roared to life and sped toward S.H.I.E.L.D.'s primary headquarters. Unlike the S.H.I.E.L.D. building, the headquarters, known as the Triskelion, encompassed almost all of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s resources and technology. Pierce's first step was to completely seize control of the base. From there, using Quinjet aircraft, Hydra operatives would be dispatched across the globe. His ultimate goal: to infiltrate the Helicarrier and eliminate the Avengers and anyone else who posed a threat to Hydra.
Meanwhile, Tony, clad in his armor, descended from the sky and returned to Avengers Tower. With Bartok vanished, the others had no choice but to regroup at the tower to plan their next move.
Downstairs, a sharply dressed and visibly anxious Coulson paced back and forth. After receiving the Hydra intel, he had rushed to the tower to find the Avengers, only to discover the place empty.
When he saw Tony land, Coulson's face lit up with relief, and he quickly approached him.
Inside the tower, as Tony removed his armor, J.A.R.V.I.S. informed him of an incoming call. The team exchanged uncertain looks, unsure whether this development was good or bad news.
Tony answered, and Coulson's voice came through:
"I've got critical information. Hydra is heading to the Triskelion. They're planning to infiltrate the base and deploy the Helicarrier!"
Hearing this, the team grew tense. Captain America immediately made his decision:
"We're heading to the base. We must stop them!"
Tony was the first to take off, rocketing toward the Triskelion. However, the rest of the team couldn't move as quickly. As Hawkeye and Black Widow made their way downstairs, Coulson rushed up to them.
He pulled out his phone and tapped a few buttons. Moments later, a black Quinjet appeared in the sky like an iron bird, landing to transport the team to the base.
Flying nearby, Alan observed the scene and came to a stop.
"As expected of the Avengers—they act swiftly," he mused, then followed them.
At the Triskelion, Bartok shot out a security camera, and an endless stream of Hydra soldiers poured out of vehicles, quickly surrounding the main gate.
Pierce ordered his men to plant several plastic explosives at the entrance. A massive explosion echoed as the base's gates were obliterated.
Inside, S.H.I.E.L.D.'s defenses were sparse. Most of the agents stationed there were Hydra double agents. By the time Pierce arrived, the real S.H.I.E.L.D. agents had been subdued, with only a handful still resisting.
"Seize the base. Bring out the Helicarrier," Pierce commanded.
Hydra soldiers stormed the base's main building at breakneck speed. Gunfire erupted, and the remaining S.H.I.E.L.D. agents retreated while fighting back. They knew that if the control room fell, the Quinjets and Helicarriers would unleash unimaginable devastation.
A few agents managed to seal the doors, temporarily trapping the Hydra soldiers outside. However, another explosion soon followed, and the Hydra soldiers forced their way in, ruthlessly killing the agents.
Pierce's face lit up with excitement as he gazed at the control room's equipment. Suddenly, the sound of rushing wind filled the air.
"I don't think you're welcome here," Tony declared, descending from above. The crisp, mechanical sounds of his suit echoed sharply as he landed.
