Marvel Transmigration: I Possessed Iron Man

Chapter 39: Chapter 39: When the Past and Passion Collide

His ex-boyfriend, Bruce Banner, had been all about research—zero fun. Her current boyfriend, a respectable psychiatrist with a steady income, was far too uptight and dull.

Only Aetheris, the notorious playboy everyone loved to hate, had that irresistible allure.

They say bad boys are trouble. But really, what woman doesn't secretly crave one?

Because to be called a "bad boy," you first need the charm and power. Otherwise, you're just labeled "a nice guy."

Betty Ross tipped back her wine and finished it in one gulp, then casually wiped the corner of her mouth—smudging her lipstick in the process.

At some point, her body had naturally leaned closer to Aetheris. Her gaze was hazy, the mood warm, cozy, and intimate.

Aetheris suddenly spoke. "You really called me out in the middle of the night just to drink?"

"Tch." Betty abruptly straightened up. That one sentence shattered the entire atmosphere. She had just wanted to indulge herself for once, to forget reality—but this damned man had to go and remind her of it.

"You know, a woman—especially a grown one—needs a man by her side."

"So what?" Aetheris flicked his cigarette ash lazily. "Men and women were meant to need each other. Otherwise, why would God take a rib from Adam to create a woman?"

"But the one I want can't be with me, and the one who wants me—I just can't lie to him and say I feel the same," Betty said, reaching for another bottle.

"You're talking about Bruce and your current boyfriend, aren't you?" Aetheris asked, cigarette still between his teeth, his gaze distant and unreadable.

"Mhm. I can't let go of the past, but I don't want to hurt the present. Do you think I'm pathetic?" She looked him straight in the eyes.

Aetheris shook his head and turned to face her fully.

"Everyone carries someone—or several people—inside their heart. Some just hide it better than others. You're not one of them."

Betty looked up. "I knew you'd get it."

Aetheris gave a crooked grin. "And why's that?"

"You think I don't keep up with the news? None of your girlfriends have lasted more than a week. That bad boy aura of yours... it's overwhelming. Any woman would fall for it."

"And what about you?" Aetheris exhaled a smoke ring. The pale haze floated toward her cheek and burst into a cloud of chemistry.

"The moment I texted you, shouldn't you have figured it out?" Betty replied with a sly smile.

"I was planning to focus on school, finish my research, settle down with my girlfriend—marry her, have kids... then you barged in."

"I know you're a bad boy. But can't you at least—" Betty reached for his hand.

"You know I can't give you much."

"I just want someone to talk to when I'm hurting."

"Well, my consultation fees aren't cheap."

"How high? Higher than these?" Betty crossed her arms in front of her chest. Aetheris felt like two supernovas had exploded in front of him.

"Not just high—astronomical," he answered truthfully.

"Then you—"

"Don't talk. Let me just feel this with my heart." Aetheris silenced her with a kiss.

Experience is life's greatest teacher. And something told him this all-American bombshell was hiding serious weapons of mass destruction... He needed to conduct a very thorough inspection.

"Clap! Clap! Clap!"

A dark figure slowly approached from the distance. His face was hidden in shadow, but two crackling whips of lightning slithered and lashed through the air, sparking with electric rage.

"Damn it!" Aetheris cursed in frustration. "Why does someone always show up and ruin things whenever Betty Ross and I are about to finally go all the way?!"

According to science, when a man is interrupted at the peak of passion, the surge of hormones instantly transforms into pure rage.

"Oooh, look who's misbehaving again!" From the darkness emerged none other than the Master of the Five-Whip Lightning Technique—Ivan Vanko.

A glowing arc reactor was embedded in his chest, eerily similar to the one in Tony Stark's armor.

"What's happening over there? Is that... cosplay?" A group of excited college students quickly gathered.

After all, who wouldn't stop to watch someone swinging two glowing whips around in the middle of the night?

"Back off! It's dangerous!" Aetheris shouted, but it was no use. The students from Calf University had already whipped out their phones, eager to capture the drama.

Meanwhile, Ivan was soaking up the attention. If only Tony Stark could be executed right here in public—that would be the ultimate revenge.

He wanted the world to watch Stark fall, humiliated and broken.

"Listen, um... Master Ivan... ," Aetheris hesitated. Honestly, he didn't want to fight. Ivan was a tragic figure in his own way.

The man had grown up without a mother, raised by a drunk and abusive father. He came from nothing, always the object of ridicule, both at school and in society.

Ivan's childhood was filled with beatings—giving and receiving. He'd even spent time in juvenile detention. His life was nothing short of a nightmare.

Just recently, his father Anton Vanko had passed away. Ivan had been poring over the research notes his father left behind and managed to create an arc reactor of his own.

As the saying goes: A father's debt must be paid by the son. Ivan's target for revenge was now clear—Tony Stark.

But Stark was always surrounded by guards and locked down in tight security, especially after the Green Goblin incident. Ivan had never gotten a real shot.

Until tonight.

After months of tracking, he'd finally found his moment—Stark was out in the open, not even wearing his armor. Ivan's odds of success had never been better.

Ding! Combat detected. Activating God-Level Selection System.

Aetheris's mouth twitched violently. These options were becoming more and more absurd.

System, are you okay? If you've been kidnapped... blink twice.

Also, how the hell was he supposed to pull off Option 1?

Were they seriously suggesting he fight Ivan while simultaneously... doing that with Betty?
