Marvel Transmigration: I Possessed Iron Man

Chapter 44: Chapter 44: The Warmth Beneath the Armor

It wasn't until she joined Stark Industries that she truly witnessed what a top-tier Fortune 500 company looked like and met the most elite, commanding CEO of them all: Tony Stark.

She believed he was her lucky star, her savior because he was just that dazzling.

Handsome, wealthy, brilliant, and a superhero to top it all off—Iron Man.

Utterly flawless. If she had to pick a flaw, perhaps it was that he was a bit short. In America, after all, anyone under six feet was practically seen as second-class.

In heels, she stood eye to eye with him. For the record, Nova was 168 cm tall.

She was even willing to be the other woman for a man like him.

But it wasn't until tonight that Nova finally felt something shift. She was no longer just a vessel for his desires—he genuinely cared about her, worried about her.

And that made her heart soar.

"All right, all right, I'm soaked," Aetheris said, patting Nova gently on the back. The softness under his hand made it hard to let go.

"Come down now, you're getting heavy."

"I don't want to," Nova murmured. She rarely acted coy, but now she clung to him even tighter.

Good thing he had the physique of Captain America. With Stark's usual lifestyle—hollowed out by wine and women—he probably wouldn't have lasted this long holding her.

Once inside her room, Nova finally slid down from his arms and found a pair of men's slippers. She knelt down to help him into them without a hint of complaint, even though his feet had been trapped in those sweaty shoes all day.

Watching Nova crouch there, her backline smooth until her spine arched upward—

"Do you want to take a shower?" she asked, picking up his damp socks, already heading for the bathroom to wash them.

The fire in Aetheris' chest ignited. He rushed forward and wrapped his arms around her from behind.

"What are you doing?"

Nova stiffened for a heartbeat, then melted like spun sugar in his arms.

"Go shower. Want something to eat?"

"I'd rather eat you first"

Aetheris playfully caught her earlobe between his lips.

Nova went weak at the knees, murmuring,

"The curtains aren't drawn..."

But before she could finish, his lips silenced hers, stealing the rest of her words.

Outside, New York's autumn mornings were crisp and cold, but Nova's bedroom was warm like spring.

"What are you doing?!"

Startled, Nova hurried to pull the blanket over herself. After the intense storm of the night before, she was thoroughly spent and now Aetheris looked refreshed, ready for round two.

"Morning workouts are great for your health!"

He looked every bit the Big Bad Wolf tempting Little Red Riding Hood.

But Little Red wasn't that naïve. Not this time.

"I can't, I have work!"

"I'm the boss. You've got the day off," Aetheris said cheerfully as he got up to make breakfast.

Nova stumbled toward the bathroom, her legs still wobbly like jelly. She felt like she was floating, barely able to walk straight.

"You know, just because I'm easygoing doesn't mean you can be that wild," she pouted, cheeks flushed as she watched Aetheris bring over fried eggs and sandwiches.

"Well, you're just too irresistible. How could I possibly hold back?"

After breakfast, he gave her a lingering good-morning kiss before driving off to the office with a satisfied grin.

"Tony, the Department of Defense just called. They want you to attend a hearing," Pepper said as soon as Aetheris walked into the office.

"Where?"

He pulled out a chair and sat across from her, resting his cheek on one hand and gazing at her intently.

"Washington," Pepper replied, glancing down at the file in her hand. When she looked up and met his eyes, something fluttered in her chest.

Still, she kept her composure. "Why are you staring at me like that? Do I have something on my face?"

"Do you know what Tagore once wrote?" he asked suddenly.

"I'm not a fan of Tagore. I prefer Pushkin."

"The farthest distance in the world is standing right in front of you... and you not knowing that I love you," Aetheris said, dead serious.

"I only know that if you don't leave now, you'll be late," Pepper replied, lips curling as she picked up the phone.

"Happy? Get the car ready. Our big boss is headed to Washington, D.C.!"

Aetheris shrugged. "If you keep treating me like this, you're going to have no friends left."

Before he could finish, Pepper shoved him right out of the office.

"You're impossible! Just wait till I get back—I'm coming for you!"

He shouted over his shoulder at the closed office door.

One Hour Later — Capitol Hill, Washington, D.C.

"Mr. Stark, let's return to the topic at hand," the Speaker of the House said, tapping his gavel repeatedly. Around the chamber, officials and military reps cast discreet glances at Aetheris, who was still whispering to Pepper.

"Mr. Stark, please stop whispering!"

"Of course, darling," Aetheris said with a grin, turning to face the Speaker.

Laughter rippled through the hall, softening the tension in the air.

"Can we focus here?" asked a congressman, his voice muffled as though he were speaking through a steamed bun.

"No problem!"

"Do you possess a special weapon?" the congressman asked pointedly.

"No, I don't."

"You don't?"

"I don't. Depends what you define as a weapon," Aetheris replied casually, leaning back.

"Iron Man counts as a weapon!"

"The equipment I built doesn't count as one."

"Then what would you call it?" The congressman's graying hair twitched in frustration.

"It is what it is, Senator."

"And what exactly is that?"

"A high-tech prosthetic," Aetheris answered confidently. "That's the best label I've got."

The chamber burst into laughter, louder this time.

"It's a weapon! It is a weapon!" the congressman yelled, veins bulging at his neck.

Aetheris matched his volume. "If your priority is the safety of the people"

But the congressman cut him off.

"No! My priority is handing over Iron Man to the American people as public property!"

Aetheris crossed his arms. "Forget it. I am Iron Man. The armor and I are one. Giving up the suit means giving up myself. That would be slavery or, depending on the state, prostitution. Either way, I'm not handing it over!"

Laughter rang out once more, shaking the chamber walls.

But behind him, Pepper's face remained tense, her knuckles white with anxiety.

This was the highest-level hearing in the country. If he failed here, Stark Industries could fall.
