Chapter 14: Chapter 14: Really Lost My Memory (Part 2)

"Since this matter started with me, I've decided to take full responsibility. I will be solely in charge of this investigation. Afterward, I will discuss it with Director Pierce, and Bucky will temporarily stay with me to assist in the investigation."

"And be researched by you…" Hearing the genius magnate speak with such righteous indignation, Bucky couldn't help but inwardly grumble.

"I understand."

Howard was a founder, an elder, and a high-ranking official; his authority remained. Fury, as a mere Level 7 Agent, naturally had no choice but to obey orders.

"So, Agent Fury, you need to make sure that tonight's events are kept strictly confidential. Also, I need a complete set of legal identification."

"Yessir, I'll handle it." The identification was naturally for Bucky. Nick Fury directly asked, "Bucky, do you have any requirements for the name?"

"Hmm… Robert Johnny Lynde, let's use that name." An image of a rock and roll scoundrel with shoulder-length hair, stubble, a cigarette, and a metal Kirin Arm flashed through Bucky's mind, and a name involuntarily slipped out.

Does this name have any special meaning? Nick Fury planned to investigate it in his spare time… He couldn't help it; it was his habit to study things that contained hidden information.

"Well, that's all for today. Thank you and everyone for your assistance."

"It's just my duty, Mr. Stark. If you need anything, just contact me directly."

After Howard and Nick Fury finished their discussion, Fury said goodbye and left, leaving only the two of them. Bucky had originally wanted to discuss further, but seeing Howard's weary expression, he asked,

"Is there a place for me to stay? If there's no one here, I can just make do."

Howard actually wanted to continue discussing and researching Bucky's abilities. But he was, after all, over 70 years old. His younger days of indulgence had not left him with a strong foundation, and his energy was indeed failing. Under normal circumstances, he couldn't stay up this late, let alone after such a great shock tonight.

"I have a lounge here. You can make do for one night."

"Okay."

…Lying on the large sofa in the lounge, watching Howard pop a handful of various colored pills into his mouth, Bucky couldn't help but sigh. People in old age had no choice but to rely on medication to sustain their bodily functions. Before he transmigrated, the elders in his family were the same, taking medicine like meals.

"Have you ever thought about researching the Super Soldier Serum to use on yourself?"

"…Of course, I have. But every time I think that, I always feel that my life has been exciting enough, and I don't need to start over. Moreover, there are gains and losses. I don't want to test my humanity, nor do I want to tamper with my memories."

Howard was a sufficiently open-minded person and saw things clearly enough.

So, there's no SSS Project in this world?

Bucky's focus was slightly different.

The SSS Project was an anti-aging drug researched by S.H.I.E.L.D. scientists that could make people age extremely slowly and maintain peak physical condition, but it couldn't extend lifespan.

In the works Bucky had read before transmigrating, Nick Fury, Black Widow Natasha Romanoff, Howling Commandos comrade Dum Dum Dugan, and even Bucky himself in some universes, all continuously took this drug.

But Bucky was clearly a Captain America-style old popsicle, and Nick Fury was Old Fury's adopted son. So, the Black Widow who made countless men drool in his previous life, at this time, should be a beautiful young rookie agent still undergoing special training at the Red Room, or who had just graduated not long ago?

Bucky couldn't help but think of the Pearl Earring Girl from Lost in Translation, in a tight-fitting combat suit, and for a moment, he was lost in thought…

Meanwhile, Howard had fallen asleep as soon as he hit the bed, and his snores began.

Bucky was also slightly tired, but what he had experienced was even more bizarre than Howard's, so he couldn't fall asleep at all.

But he still needed rest.

"System, initiate sleep, 1 hour."

"System Information: Consuming 80 energy points for 1 hour of system rest."

Bucky just felt his vision go dark, a momentary blackout, and then he recovered. Looking at the time, it really was just an instant, but he already felt refreshed and re-energized, as if he had undergone 8 hours of deep sleep.

This was the benefit of system sleep, just like sleeping in a game, it could restore bodily functions and health points. However, the energy for repairing the body wasn't free; it consumed corresponding energy based on Bucky's physical strength.

Since he wasn't sleepy anymore, Bucky quietly got up and left the lounge, going to the laboratory to find a computer.

The computers here still had those large, thick CRT monitors, but Bucky remembered that Intel's Pentium 1 should be coming out soon. However, when he turned on the computer, Stark wasn't using Windows 3.0 or Pentium 1; instead, he was using his own company's custom-made operating system and microprocessors, and this system was already very user-friendly, with strong human-computer interaction capabilities.

It seemed that in the future, while others played Windows 7, his grand-nephew Tony, who played with Jarvis, still stood on his father's shoulders to see further in the field of artificial intelligence.

Bucky entered the system using a certain level of security password that Howard had told him earlier, then searched for a certain warehouse camera.

Four monitoring interfaces popped up, which were precisely the secret locations where they had stored the serum earlier. Although he didn't have much hope, Howard still expected the enemy to carelessly expose themselves.

Although Howard didn't have any direct subordinates and had little control over S.H.I.E.L.D., his genius mind and various resources still allowed him to monitor S.H.I.E.L.D.'s movements. He could quietly investigate in the shadows alone.

Actually, the surveillance footage didn't need to be constantly monitored by a person. Howard had set up an early warning program that would automatically capture any suspicious movements. Bucky just wanted to use this computer.

So Bucky pulled out a data cable from the base of his Steel Kirin Arm's palm, wondering how to find a PS/2 or old printer port. Then he received a system prompt that he could directly "Craft."

So the head of the data cable flashed red and blue neon colors and transformed into an Ethernet port, which he plugged into the host.

This way, Bucky could directly connect to the computer via the Network Access Pod and operate it through his consciousness.

Thus, two web dialogue boxes opened on the computer screen, not exaggeratedly, but quickly changing web information. Bucky's 7 points in System Intelligence allowed him to at least multitask and quickly browse information.

However, limited by the internet speed and the network infrastructure of this era, Bucky could only browse some mainstream news, which was still enough for him to familiarize himself with everything in this era as much as possible.

Just like that, time passed unknowingly, and it seemed in a blink of an eye, dawn had arrived.

Howard slept soundly, and Bucky played on the computer at his leisure.

But with Howard's assault, and the shocking news of the World War II hero who went missing returning as the Winter Soldier, who then went missing again due to an unknown defection,

HYDRA and S.H.I.E.L.D. had already exploded!
