"Sitwell, have you found them?"
In Washington, at S.H.I.E.L.D.'s headquarters, the Triskelion Building.
Alexander Pierce, the former Director of S.H.I.E.L.D., now a Minister in the World Security Council and the leader of Hydra's S.H.I.E.L.D. faction, glanced at the screen in front of him and asked the bald agent inside.
Years ago, he had recognized Nick Fury's ability to elevate S.H.I.E.L.D. to greater heights, while also ensuring Hydra's growth within the organization. This was why he had passed the directorship to Nick Fury.
And as it turned out, his decision had been incredibly wise.
Originally, S.H.I.E.L.D. was just an organization under the U.S. government, on the same level as the CIA or the FBI.
But under Nick Fury's leadership, it had transformed into the world's largest security organization, with most countries giving it a free pass, effectively monitoring the entire world.
When S.H.I.E.L.D. had control over global surveillance, it essentially meant that Hydra did as well.
S.H.I.E.L.D.'s technology, intelligence, and resources were at Hydra's disposal, but Hydra's own technology, intelligence, and resources were beyond S.H.I.E.L.D.'s reach.
This gave Hydra an edge, consistently keeping them above S.H.I.E.L.D. in terms of power.
If this had continued, Pierce could have slowly turned the entire organization into Hydra, manipulating Fury to implement the Insight Plan perfectly.
At that point, Hydra would have controlled the world without anyone even realizing it.
Unfortunately, things had gone awry recently. Pierce discovered that Nick Fury had started to suspect him and even began investigating S.H.I.E.L.D., forcing him to accelerate his plans.
Fortunately, many high-ranking officials in various governments were Hydra agents, which prevented Fury from using official channels to expose his crimes. Instead, they were forced into a covert battle.
It could be said that Fury was a formidable agent, someone who had brought S.H.I.E.L.D. to where it was today. Despite not having the upper hand in many areas, he was still managing to suppress them.
However, Pierce had more contingencies in place—especially with the spies he had planted.
Finally, today, he had completely taken care of Fury. S.H.I.E.L.D. was now reduced to a handful of insignificant agents, no longer a threat.
But there was still one thing that concerned him—the source of Fury's intelligence.
The world-renowned Professor X and the X-Men, who had saved the world multiple times, represented a massive threat to Hydra. Such enemies could not be allowed to remain.
This was why he hadn't wiped them all out yet. Instead, he had sent Coulson and his small group of agents to track them down, planning to capture them all at once.
"We haven't found them. We've searched the entire area but found no trace," Sitwell replied.
"It looks like these mutants have something special," Pierce sneered.
"Launch a full-scale attack. Bomb that entire area into the ground. I don't believe they won't show themselves then."
The three aerospace carriers were in their final stages of preparation and would be ready to launch soon. They no longer needed to hide. They could bomb the area directly, giving their world domination plans a small "opening ceremony."
And based on the intel, Pierce knew that with Professor X's personality, even if the mutants had powers to protect themselves, he wouldn't stay silent for long if the lives of nearby civilians were at risk.
Enemies like this were the easiest to handle.
He always believed that Professor X was the leader of the mutants, while the "George" in the intel was just a smokescreen.
"What about Garrett and the others?" Sitwell hesitated. If they carried out this full-scale attack, Garrett and Grant likely wouldn't survive.
Pierce raised an eyebrow.
"They will feel honored to give their lives for the great Hydra. We will remember their contributions."
"Hail Hydra!"
Sitwell instantly understood Pierce's meaning and quickly shouted out the Hydra slogan.
"Sitwell, the weather seems off!"
At that moment, a powerful figure appeared on the screen. As soon as he saw Pierce, he immediately performed a Hydra salute.
"Crossbones, what do you mean by 'the weather seems off'?"
Sitwell looked puzzled. Weather didn't usually affect them much. The agents on this mission were all highly trained, and they could carry out their tasks even in torrential rain or heavy snow.
Crossbones pressed a button nearby, and the roof of the specialized command vehicle slowly opened, revealing a sky filled with thick clouds and lightning jumping between them.
"This isn't normal weather. There's no way there should be so much lightning."
On a typical thunderstorm day, you'd first see a flash of lightning in the sky, then hear thunder after a short while, followed by a heavy downpour.
But now, there was no thunder, no rain. Instead, there was a dense network of lightning continuously gathering and flashing within the clouds, creating a terrifying atmosphere.
"Could the mutants be behind this?"
Sitwell had read the mutants' files, and he knew that one of the former X-Men, Storm, had the power to control weather, including lightning.
But the files didn't mention being able to control so much lightning—could this be some kind of upgraded version of Storm?
"Attack! Attack!"
Thinking about this, Sitwell's heart tightened. He couldn't afford to hesitate. He immediately issued the order to attack.
The armed helicopters began to adjust their energy cannons, aiming them downward. The tanks below did the same, rotating their turrets.
The attack orders were to bombard inch by inch, repeatedly hitting this entire area from beginning to end.
"Boom! Boom! Boom!"
The earth-shaking sounds of thunder echoed—not from the helicopters or tanks firing, but from the lightning that struck first.
Under George's control, the lightning focused and slammed into the most prominent targets—those armed helicopters and tanks. Even the massive command vehicle, bigger than the tanks, didn't escape.
"It feels like the end of the world!"
Coulson and the others watched as George swung his wand, sending countless bolts of lightning down like rain. The bolts struck the helicopters and tanks one after another. Everyone's faces showed shock and disbelief.
It felt like watching a god use thunder to punish mortals.
If George were on the battlefield, what army could withstand such a terrifying attack?
"George, I think you look even more like Thor than I do."
Thor looked up at the sky full of lightning and couldn't help but express his admiration.
The last time in Asgard, the lightning George released was much less intense. This time, Thor thought that even with Mjolnir in his hands, using all his might, he couldn't match it.
"I think you should be called 'God of the Hammer,' not 'God of Thunder,'" Logan teased, patting Thor on the back.
Both of them were heavy drinkers who often shared drinks and swapped stories, so their bond was particularly strong.
