Chapter 109: Chapter 107: The Fifth Member of the Team
"Biology and nanotechnology? How do those combine? Is it about analyzing biological structures at the microscopic, nano-scale level? DNA coding?" Dr. Lizard muttered to himself, a contemplative expression spreading across his face.
Clearly, this new term from Peter had deeply piqued his interest.
Seeing his reaction, Peter smiled faintly.
This was exactly what he wanted to see!
Dr. Lizard's combat abilities weren't particularly outstanding.
When transformed, his strengths could be summarized into two main aspects.
First, his regenerative ability.
According to natural laws, the simpler an organism's structure, the easier it is to regenerate.
That's why lizards can regrow lost limbs.
Even creatures like spiders and crabs can regenerate limbs, though their recovery is slower.
Spider-Man's impressive healing ability also comes from spider genetics.
But compared to Dr. Lizard, Spider-Man's recovery is like child's play.
It's hardly worth mentioning!
How extreme is Dr. Lizard's regenerative power?
When Garfield Spider tore off his tail, it regrew in less than a minute.
When he was shot in the hand, it healed completely within seconds.
Captain Stacy, Gwen's father, managed to suppress his regeneration temporarily using a shotgun combined with liquid nitrogen.
But once the shotgun shells ran out, Dr. Lizard broke free instantly, regrew his lost limb, and swiftly took down Captain Stacy.
This level of recovery is like endlessly pasting layers in Photoshop—erase the top, and a fresh one appears underneath.
It's enough to drive anyone to despair.
It completely defies the law of conservation of energy—though, to be fair, cross-species gene fusion is already absurd.
The second aspect is his strength.
Dr. Lizard's strength easily reaches several tons. Of course, he can't match Spider-Man, but it's still quite formidable.
Norman and Harry Osborn, even after being enhanced by the Goblin serum, fall short in both raw stats and performance compared to Dr. Lizard.
The most crucial part? This serum can be mass-produced.
After all, it was originally developed for the British military's super-soldier program.
However, its flaws are equally obvious.
The lizard genes in the serum make Dr. Lizard increasingly aggressive and unstable.
In the 1994 Spider-Man series, he even created an underground Lizard Kingdom in New York's sewer system because of this.
Peter naturally had no interest in such an uncontrollable substance.
But dismissing the serum didn't mean he underestimated Dr. Connors' expertise.
Despite losing his research to Richard Parker, Connors still managed to independently develop a functional cross-species genetic serum, showcasing his profound knowledge in genetic studies.
Moreover, compared to the mysterious Vulture, Peter was far more familiar with Dr. Connors.
Dr. Connors' obsession with cross-species genetic transfer and mutation technology stemmed from his desire to heal his own severed arm.
This was true in both The Amazing Spider-Man and the 1994 Spider-Man series.
"There were even rumors before about a Spider-Man 4 starring Tobey, featuring two villains—Dr. Lizard and Carnage. Dr. Lizard was supposed to be none other than Dr. Connors, who had a brief appearance in Spider-Man 2, also missing an arm.
The reason behind this was probably pretty straightforward.
For these versions of Dr. Connors, if they could find a way to heal their severed arms, they wouldn't be so obsessed with turning into lizard monsters.
This would make him an emotionally stable, highly competent subordinate.
Recruiting someone like that would be beneficial with no downsides.
"Bionanotechnology might sound like a fantasy in this era, but in some worlds, it's nothing extraordinary," Peter said with a smile. "In fact, it's not just bionanotechnology. In some worlds, they've rewritten animal DNA to give them the ability to walk upright and think like humans. They even formed an entire planet!"
"How is that possible?!" Dr. Lizard was visibly shocked.
Peter's words had shaken him to the core.
If this were true, then what was his prized cross-species gene transfer and mutation technology compared to that?
"Countless worlds, infinite possibilities—this is the multiverse!" Peter spread his arms wide, resembling an upside-down bat.
From Gwen and Garfield Spider's perspective, the vibe was eerily familiar.
No, he now seemed more like a seductive vampire, luring innocents step by step into the abyss, until they willingly became his thralls.
With an enticing tone, Peter said, "Do you want to witness all of this with your own eyes? All you have to do is agree to work for me, and I'll help you achieve it!"
"Uh... uh..."
Before Dr. Lizard could respond, his body suddenly underwent drastic changes.
His massive form began to shrink rapidly, the green hue fading from his skin.
In just moments, he transformed from a towering five-meter creature back to a human under two meters tall.
The most notable change—his previously restored arm was missing once again.
Now back to being Dr. Connors, he appeared much calmer.
Still stuck to the web, he showed no signs of panic. Instead, he lifted his re-lost arm, contemplated for a moment, then said, "What do you need me to do?"
Peter was thrilled. "My team is called the Transdimensional Task Force. Our mission is to travel to another world and fight in an interstellar war that threatens half the universe's life. If you help me, I'll help you fulfill some of your wishes within my capabilities."
"Like using that... regeneration cradle to regrow my arm?" Dr. Connors asked.
Peter nodded. "Exactly, to regrow your arm!"
"Deal!" Dr. Connors agreed without hesitation this time, clearly convinced.
The allure of regenerating his arm without any side effects was too great to resist.
Peter then tore away the webs binding Dr. Connors.
Afterward, Dr. Connors led them to his "secret base" within the underground sewer network.
It was a simple setup with just a few computers and a single light source.
According to Dr. Connors, these computers contained much of his research data, which he couldn't afford to leave behind.
"So, BOSS, where are we headed next?"
After about ten minutes, Dr. Connors finished transferring the temporary data from the computers.
Peter replied, "I can't take you there just yet. Besides, there's someone else I need to find in this world."
"Who?"
"They haven't appeared yet. Let time do its thing~"
