Chapter 23: Chapter 22: First Victory
Peter suddenly halted and pressed his body against the outer wall of a building.
Not far behind, Gwen-Spider, who had been following him, also came to a stop.
"What is he doing? Why did he stop? Is he giving up?" Gwen-Spider couldn't help but feel a twinge of disappointment in Peter, and her impression of him dimmed slightly.
Just then, Peter sprang into action!
He abruptly changed direction and began scaling the building at high speed.
When he was about twenty meters from the rooftop, Peter shot out two webs simultaneously and gave them a sharp pull.
With a classic "Web Sling Propel" move, his speed increased dramatically.
In no time, Peter vaulted onto the rooftop, jumped several times, and made his way to another building on the opposite side of the street.
Down below, the robbers' car sped toward him.
"3... 2... 1... surprise!" Peter leaped straight off the rooftop and landed squarely on the roof of the speeding getaway car!
Of course, this was all part of his plan.
While on the rooftop earlier, Peter had noticed police cars stationed on both sides of the upcoming streets. He deduced that the robbers wouldn't dare drive toward the police and would instead stick to the current path.
So, he simply took a shortcut over the rooftops.
From above, he didn't have to worry about road conditions or sharp turns, allowing him to move faster than the car below.
"What the hell was that?!" came an angry curse from inside the car. But no one dared to stick their head out to check.
After all, with police cars in hot pursuit, they couldn't risk exposing themselves to potential gunfire.
Peter firmly grabbed onto the car roof, leaned down, and knocked on the window. "Hey, mind rolling down the window? I've got something to discuss with you."
"F**k!" The Black robber in the passenger seat, who was in the middle of slipping a large gold ring onto his finger, was startled. When he got a good look at Peter, he was even more shocked. "S-Spider-Man?! I thought you were dead!"
"I'm not the Spider-Man you know... uh, it's a long story. How about you pull over first, and we can talk about it?" Peter suggested sincerely.
"Hell no! Even if you are Spider-Man, we're not stopping!" the Black robber shouted.
The White robber next to him whispered nervously, "It is Spider-Man. Maybe we should just surrender?"
"Surrender?! Didn't you hear him? He said he's not the Spider-Man we know! Why should we surrender?" the Black robber snapped.
"Impressive. You've got the true spirit of a robber," Peter said with admiration before raising his fist. "Well, if that's the case, I'll have to convince you the hard way."
Smash!
With a crisp crack, Peter shattered the car window with a single punch.
The force from Peter's punch shattered the car's rear window, scattering shards of glass all over the back seat. The two robbers seated there let out cries of pain as they were cut by the sharp fragments.
At that moment, the car screeched to an abrupt stop.
The Black robber driving had noticed what was happening and slammed on the brakes, hoping to throw Peter off.
Peter's body indeed lurched forward due to inertia, momentarily thrown into the air.
But the power of his bio-electric adhesion wasn't just for show.
Having mastered this ability, Peter could now use it with precision and control. A mere brake wasn't enough to dislodge him; even if the car flipped over, he could stay on if he wanted.
That said, the sudden maneuver wasn't without effect.
Peter had only been holding on with one hand, leaving the rest of his body free. The unexpected jolt caused him to twist mid-air and slam hard against the edge between the car's door and roof. The impact left a noticeable dent in the metal.
"Oh, my back, my back!" Peter cried out dramatically.
His "screams" brought a smirk to the Black driver's face. Accelerating the car again, he glanced back at his companions, who were still recovering from their cuts, and boasted, "See? This rookie Spider-Man isn't hard to deal with at all."
Knock, knock.
Before he could finish gloating, there was a tapping sound on the driver's side window.
Peter's face appeared at the window, grinning. "My back? Did you really think I was serious? Honestly, that wasn't even close to the pain I felt during Mr. Shadow's training sessions. But buddy, your actions weren't just impolite; they were also a case of reckless driving. I think jail time and a revoked driver's license are in order for you."
"Damn it, just die already!" The Black driver's temper flared. Grabbing a pistol from the seat beside him, he fired two shots straight at Peter's head.
The car's windows were just standard glass and shattered easily.
But Peter effortlessly tilted his head twice, dodging both bullets as if it were nothing.
"F**k!" the driver roared, furiously emptying his clip, pulling the trigger repeatedly in a fit of rage.
"Careful now, that's dangerous," Peter chided casually. A web shot out from his hand, sticking to the driver's wrist, disarming him, and gluing his hand to the seat.
Peter then shot another web, this time sticking it to the steering wheel.
"Get him! Kill him already!" the driver bellowed at his two companions in the back.
"Oh no, how scary~ Always with the death threats!" Peter teased as he shifted his body slightly. Reaching out, he placed a hand on the rear door, activated his bio-electric adhesion, and gave it a powerful yank.
Bang! The car door was forcefully ripped off its hinges!
"Well, are you going to get out on your own, or should I help?" Peter asked, casually waving the car door in his hand as he leaned in.
"W-We'll get out! We'll get out! We surrender!"
"Mom, I'll never do this again!"
This display of raw strength completely shattered the mental defenses of the three hapless robbers.
Tearing off a car door with his bare hands—who could stand up to that? They were terrified that if they didn't comply, his next move would involve ripping them apart!
Screeech—
The getaway car came to a screeching halt, leaving a long skid mark on the ground as it stopped.
The three robbers climbed out one by one, looking like chastised children.
Peter let go of the car door, letting it crash to the ground with a loud clang. The noise made all three of them flinch in unison.
"Hands on your heads, squat down! Stay put!" Peter ordered firmly.
Under the pressure of his overwhelming physical presence, the three robbers obediently followed his instructions.
Moments later, Officer Orlando arrived from behind, catching up with the scene.
This time, Peter didn't stick around to chat.
He glanced up and quickly spotted Gwen-Spider perched on a nearby rooftop, watching the scene unfold.
"How'd I do? Did I pass?" Peter called out, his voice tinged with anticipation.
This was the first time he'd done something like this, and he couldn't help feeling a bit excited.
Strangely, though, he found himself feeling more exhilarated now, after resolving the situation, than he had during the actual confrontation.
Reflecting on it for a moment, he wondered: Could delivering witty banter actually be Spider-Man's hidden passive skill? Did it help alleviate tension?
