Marvel’s Spider-Man: Across the Multiverse

Chapter 55: Chapter 54: Embracing Life Through Death!

He knew that Marvel had its own system of universe designations, such as labeling the universe where most events occur as the "616 Primary Universe."

If this logic held, the universe he was currently in should logically also be the "616 Primary Universe."

But what about Tobey's Spider-Man?

What about Andrew's Spider-Man?

Both of them appeared in the "No Way Home" universe.

And then there was the middle-aged Peter Parker he met in the Ultimate Universe. That Peter claimed he also came from the 616 Universe—clearly, he had experienced interdimensional or temporal travel to know his universe's designation.

Thus, Peter boldly speculated that the "616 Primary Universe" might actually not be singular!

Instead, there could be multiple 616 universes, each within its own distinct framework.

This would correspond to the fourth tier beneath the third—a "numbered universe" designation.

The structure might look like this:

Level 1 + Level 2 + Level 3 + Level 4, which could be the true method to identify a universe.

It's akin to an address system: Province XX, City XX, Town XX, Village/Street XX. Different provinces might have cities with identical names, and cities could have towns, villages, or streets with overlapping names.

For example:

Countless Worlds > Marvel Universe > Live-Action Cinematic Universe > 616 Universe.

This would represent the complete address of the universe he was currently in.

Moreover, this universe also had its derivative universes.

For instance, in Avengers: Endgame, Iron Man and the team used the time machine to travel to different timelines and retrieve Infinity Stones.

Although they returned the stones in the end, they couldn't erase the traces of their actions.

Two identical individuals existing simultaneously in one universe?

No, that was clearly the result of parallel universes being spawned.

This gives rise to derivative universes like:

Countless Worlds > Marvel Universe > Live-Action Cinematic Universe > 616 Universe > B, C, and so on.

These universes, along with the primary "A" universe, are fundamentally the same but diverged into branches due to specific events.

This could also be considered a "Fifth Tier".

Using the address analogy, it's like saying within XX Street or XX Village, there are several households.

Even within a single "Fourth Tier," the "Fifth Tier" could split into numerous possibilities.

And the "Fourth Tier" itself, within the "Third Tier," already offers a variety of possibilities.

To find the universe where he had encountered Gwen Stacy's Spider-Woman in the vast multiverse would be an impossible task unless he could pinpoint the exact "address."

He wasn't sure if he had the ability to locate it on his own, so he needed someone to assist him.

The best candidates to help him stood right before him—Dr. Hank Pym and Dr. Foster!

Dr. Foster would likely agree, as long as Peter continued to help stabilize Ghost's condition occasionally.

But why would Dr. Pym, who had no personal ties to him, agree to help?

And the most critical issue: if the Infinity War ended in failure, Thanos would snap his fingers in a few days, and Dr. Pym would be among the casualties!

Even if Peter gave them a heads-up to activate the "time travel" plan right away, shortening the duration of the Decimation as much as possible, who could guarantee they'd win this time?

If he wanted to play it safe, he could wait five years, let the "storyline" develop as it was meant to, and perhaps improve their chances of success.

But waiting five years?

Even ignoring the potential time discrepancies between universes, what made him think Gwen Stacy's Spider-Woman would wait for him for five years?

And there was another critical point—Peter couldn't be sure he wouldn't be wiped out by the snap!

After all, the snap's "eliminate half the universe's life" rule was a force of cosmic power. As long as he existed in this universe, he was subject to that rule.

If he vanished, it wouldn't be surprising.

The odds were a straight 50-50.

Either he lived or he died.

Peter decided to take his chances into his own hands.

In fact, he did have a backup plan: escaping into the Quantum Realm during Thanos' snap.

After all, Ant-Man had survived the snap because he was in the Quantum Realm.

But there was a problem with this plan.

According to Ant-Man, he felt like he'd only been in the Quantum Realm for five hours, but five years had passed in the outside world. By that measure, the time ratio seemed to be 1 hour inside = 1 year outside.

However, this rule didn't hold for the original Wasp.

For her, 30 years outside equaled 30 years inside.

And another thing: if the time flow between the Quantum Realm and the outside world was truly so different, how did they manage to communicate in real time?

Wouldn't that mean you could only send one message per year?

Even the worst blind date wouldn't leave you hanging like that.

So Peter couldn't gamble on such an uncertain plan.

Since he couldn't avoid it, he chose to face it head-on and take control of his fate!

If he gave it his all and still lost—if he died—then so be it.

He Accepted It!

Peter laid everything about Thanos and the Infinity Stones on the table. Whether it was the Quantum Tunnel or contacting the Avengers, he needed the help of everyone in this car.

Upon hearing that half of the universe's life could be wiped out, Luis, who was driving, was so shocked that he slammed on the brakes, nearly crashing into a roadside barrier.

Grabbing his hair with both hands, he yelled frantically, "Dude, are you serious?! Are we all about to die?!"

Dr. Pym, the original Wasp, the second Wasp, Ghost, and Dr. Foster all fixed their eyes intently on Peter, hoping he was just joking.

However, Peter regretfully confirmed, "I swear on my suit and the honor of Spider-Man, everything I said is true—truer than gold!"

"Phew!" Dr. Pym took a deep breath and exhaled slowly. "So, you want me to build the Quantum Tunnel because you don't think we can win this war, right?"

Peter's expression was grave. "The enemy is one of the most powerful beings in the known universe. His strength is insurmountable, his body and mind nearly invincible. His Black Order army is so vast that they can conquer any place on Earth in a matter of moments. Our chances of winning are slim, unless…"

"Unless what?" Dr. Pym pressed.

"Unless we can find Captain Marvel and unite the full strength of the Avengers. Only then might we have a chance," Peter replied.

Dr. Pym frowned at the mention of the "full strength of the Avengers."

He wasn't familiar with Captain Marvel—by the time she appeared, Dr. Pym had long since left S.H.I.E.L.D.

But he understood what "full strength" implied.

Though he was deeply absorbed in his research and focused on rescuing his wife, he wasn't entirely detached from the world.

Besides, two years ago, during the Civil War between the Pro-Registration and Anti-Registration factions, Scott had secretly donned the Ant-Man suit to join the fight, forcing Pym to pay attention.

After the Civil War, the once-powerful Avengers had all but fallen apart. Officially, the Avengers now consisted of just Iron Man and War Machine.

Two people—could you still call that an "Alliance"? It was more like "Two Best Buddies Holding Hands."

Now, with just a few words from Peter, trying to gather the scattered Avengers seemed like an almost impossible task.

Pym didn't even know where most of the former Avengers were at the moment!

Peter spoke up, "I have an idea where some of them are. But I need your help to contact one person."

"Who?"

"Tony Stark."
