Master Craftsman of the Pokémon World

Chapter 37: Chapter 37

With the first display of power, the subsequent information gradually emerged, completing the unclear details of the craftsmanship effect.

"Ancient wooden carvings will respond to the corresponding Pokémon image, and each type of wooden carving can only be wished upon once."

"If the craftsmanship of the wooden carving improves and unique wood is used, the number of wishes or the content of the wish may also change."

"The purpose of the ancient wooden carvings is... to enhance individual values!"

Hikaru was somewhat surprised, but when he recalled that these carvings also required the embedding of Ruins Stones or Ancient Rocks, his excitement quickly faded.

As everyone knows, Pokémon have three sets of data: Base Stats, Individual Values (IVs), and Effort Values (EVs).

Even in the real Pokémon world, Effort Values can be considered limitless—after all, if a Pokémon trains harder, no one can dispute it.

However, Base Stats and Individual Values cannot be changed. The former represents a Pokémon species' fixed stat potential, while the latter reflects an individual Pokémon's inherent strengths and weaknesses, which are unchangeable.

Among players, the number 31 is commonly referred to as V, which signifies the highest possible Individual Value.

In the entire Pokémon world, the only way to increase a Pokémon's Individual Values is through Hyper Training, which requires Silver or Gold Bottle Caps as resources.

"Wait a minute, did it only boost Attack IV?"

Hikaru's initial excitement quickly dissipated. He then realized that after Petilil made a wish, the only IV that improved was Attack.

This made Hikaru feel both amused and frustrated.

Pokémon have a very simple understanding of power—it all comes down to attack. Most Pokémon cannot distinguish between physical attack and special attack. Of course, there are exceptions, such as Jessie and James' Wobbuffet, which adjusts its defenses based on the attack type it faces.

"Looks like I need to find some unique wood and carve more wooden sculptures."

"Old wood allows only one wish per Pokémon species. Even if I carve a new sculpture, I can't make another wish for the same Pokémon unless I use a different type of wood."

"And since the first wish boosted Attack IV, wouldn't it be better to aim for the Hisuian form instead?"

While Petilil's Attack IV reached its maximum, its base Attack stat was still quite low. Only after evolving into Lilligant (Hisuian Form)—the Hisuian Queen of the Highlands—would it gain significant offensive power.

Moreover, in terms of moves, abilities, and versatility, Hisuian Lilligant is undeniably stronger than its original Unovan counterpart.

"That's right... If I want to reclaim its habitat, evolving into a powerful form is the way to go."

"As for abilities, I can use Ability Capsules to fix that. I may not have one right now, but there's no rush."

"Petilil~"

Seeing Hikaru's changing expression—going from joy to a furrowed brow—Petilil didn't understand what was happening. However, she felt as if her strength had increased significantly!

It was an amazing feeling! But when she tried touching the carving again, or even making another wish, the sculpture no longer responded.

Petilil turned toward Hikaru.

"Petil?" (Did I make the wrong wish?)

She was confused.

Now that the wish was over, the ancient energy inside the carving had been depleted. It was now nothing more than an ornament to sell for money.

"...Maybe if I use special wood, the carvings could display even stronger effects, like wood from Oak Groves, Evergrowth Forest, or Link Forest."

Hikaru glanced at Petilil. She and Doublade were poking at the sculpture curiously.

Right, Doublade should also get a wish.

But... Doublade 's patterns are too intricate, and Hikaru didn't want to deal with that hassle.

Before making a wish for Doublade, he needed to figure out which stats were the most important and should be boosted first, and which ones were less critical.

"If I find a stronger type of special wood, could I increase two or three IVs at once? Maybe even max out all stats in one go?"

"Hyper Training is a mechanic that only exists in the games—there's a good chance that Hyper Training simply doesn't exist in the real-world Alola region."

"In that case, my wooden carvings function like Hyper Training and Silver Bottle Caps?"

If that were true, these carvings could sell for a lot of money.

Although most trainers probably don't understand IVs, since even the Pokédex doesn't display them explicitly, there are some hidden clues in the world.

For example, Ash's Infernape. When it was still a Chimchar, its Blaze ability exhibited an extreme level of power, which is why Paul saw its potential and caught it.

It was highly likely that Ash's Chimchar had perfect Attack and Special Attack IVs from a young age.

A Pokémon with strong IVs and a powerful ability can display incredible strength, and when combined with unlimited effort—the result is overwhelming power.

Of course, reality doesn't work exactly like the games.

"Petil~"

"Yup! Yuuuh!"

Petilil and Doublade's voices snapped Hikaru out of his thoughts. Seeing their slightly anxious expressions, he quickly crouched down.

"Sorry, sorry, I just got lost in thought."

"Petil~!" Petilil asked if it was because of the wooden carving.

"The carving... well, it was an unexpected outcome. I'm not upset at all. In fact, I'm excited because you've become stronger." Hikaru patted her leafy head and encouraged her.

"You'll keep getting stronger, and you'll fulfill your own wishes. Of course, I also need rewards in this process—the stronger you become, the greater my returns."

"Let's work hard together."

"Petil! Waaah!" (๑و•̀ω•́)و☆

Petilil clenched the sides of her leaf-like skirt as if they were little fists. Her eyes burned with determination.

Get stronger! Stronger!

Amidst this rising determination, the leaves on Petilil's head began to glow. She recalled the dazzling sunlight that radiated from the carving moments ago—it seemed to awaken something deep within her!

The sun above shone brightly. After rain comes sunshine, and the grass will grow stronger and lusher!

"Petil!"

Suddenly, Petilil cried out to the sky.

Then—a vast amount of sunlight gathered above her head!

The intense light resembled a miniature sun or a glowing screen, recreating the moment when the sculpture had exhibited its power.

The sunlight became stronger!

This was the move "Sunny Day!"

But it didn't stop there. The gathered sunlight continued condensing above Petilil's head, forming a scorching hot solar halo that surrounded her.

Hikaru and Doublade stepped back, watching in awe.

The concentrated sunlight continued gathering, building up over time.

And then—

BOOM!

A massive beam of light shot into the sky!

Petilil had learned "Solar Beam!"

"Sunny Day and Solar Beam are a natural pair. For Pokémon who can master both moves, learning Sunny Day usually means they can also learn Solar Beam—but not necessarily the other way around!"

"The IV boost must have helped her tap into extraordinary power. But even though it increased her Attack IV, she can still use Special Attack moves? Or was it just a matter of reaching a threshold?"

"Long-term battles built up her Effort Values, and this fertile land must have helped too."

Hikaru looked around at his herb field.

It was the result of knowledge + sweat, along with a small push from an external tool.

And the outcome?

A great success!

However, someone else had been watching.

From the rooftop of the workshop, a small, green, winged Pokémon had appeared, fluttering its tiny wings.

Around it, ripples of time flickered.

"Shi?"

The Pokémon giggled mischievously.

This workshop seemed like a fun place!
