Chapter 10: chapter 10
Two month later ,early Autumn. September 5.
Emily lay on her bed ,writing with fresh ink and a feather on a piece of clean paper, she was writing a letter to her parent's back at home ,she had only written to them once that was when she had arrived in school two months ago, today was a Friday and she could hear rattling of weeks and axles, jingling of the harness and reigns ,as students returned home for the weekend as some of them mostly did.
Over the two months she had noticed that some of the students loves to visit home once it was weekend, they were free to be home for two days before returning to school on a Monday morning or afternoon depending on their distance,Emily had decided not to visit home ,as it was more costly boarding carriage every weekend when she could enjoy the less crowdy school, and luckily David and Penelope also never traveled home ,during the weekend they make plans and always went out on research picnic and team studying, they were only few students left in school during the weekend making it more convenient for them.
"Dear mama and papa."
I hope this letter finds you both in good health and spirits. I can hardly believe it's been two months since I started at this wonderful school! Time has flown by, and I've settled in so nicely.
I must tell you, my two friends, Penelope and David, have become like siblings to me. We share stories, laughter, and adventures together. They're both so kind and clever, and I feel grateful to have them by my side.
The school itself has exceeded my expectations. The teachers are knowledgeable and supportive, and the classes are engaging and challenging. I've particularly enjoyed learning about history, literature, and the sciences.
As the autumn season begins, the school grounds have transformed into a picturesque landscape of golden leaves and crimson berries. It's breathtakingly beautiful!
Please don't worry about me; I'm happy and content here. I miss you both dearly, but I'm making the most of this incredible opportunity.
With all my love,
Emily
.
Emily folded the letter putting it in a red envelope, she lit a candle using the candle wax to seal her letter, she made a mental note to submit it to the post office the following Monday as the school postal service didn't operate on weekends.
Just as Emily finished sealing her letter, Penelope burst into the room, looking excited but also a bit concerned. "Emily, I have some news," she said, holding up two envelopes. "I just received letters from my mother and aunt. They're inviting me to return home for the weekend."
Emily's eyes widened in surprise. "That's wonderful, Penelope But are you going to go?"
Penelope hesitated, looking uncertain. "I'm not sure. My mother and aunt are eager to see me, but I've grown accustomed to our weekend adventures together. Plus, I know how much you value our time together here at school."
Emily smiled reassuringly. "Don't worry about me, Penelope. If you need to go home, I completely understand. Family is important, and it's been months since you've seen them."
Penelope nodded thoughtfully, weighing her options. "I'll think about it, Emily. But either way, I promise to let you know what I decide."
Penelope's face lit up with excitement. "Emily, I've got a wonderful idea,Why don't you come with me to visit my family? I'm sure they would love to meet you, and it would be such fun to have you along! We could even invite David to join us, I'm sure he would enjoy it too."
Emily's eyes widened in surprise at the invitation. She hadn't expected Penelope to ask her to join her on a family visit. "Oh, Penelope, I don't know...I wouldn't want to intrude on your family time," Emily replied hesitantly.
Penelope waved her hand dismissively. "Nonsense, Emily! My family would adore you, and it would be a great opportunity for us to spend time together outside of school. Plus, I know David would love to come along too. We could make a little weekend adventure out of it"
Emily thought for a moment, and then her face lit up with a smile. "Penelope, that sounds like a wonderful idea! I'd love to meet your family and spend the weekend with you."
Penelope squealed with delight, clapping her hands together. "I'm so thrilled you can come, Emily! Now, let's go find David and invite him too."
The two girls set off towards the library, searching for David. They soon spotted him walking down the hallway, his nose buried in a book.
"David! David!" Penelope called out, waving her hand to get his attention.
David looked up, slightly startled, and smiled when he saw the two girls. "Ah, Penelope, Emily What's all the excitement about?"
Penelope grinned mischievously. "We're going to my family's estate for the weekend, and we want you to come with us."
David's expression turned apologetic. "I'm afraid I won't be able to join you. My research team and I have some important experiments to conduct this weekend,we found a new tunnel at the schools north wing ,we wanted to see if it was connected somehow ,so we'll be crawling on it later , I'm sorry I would disappoint you two."
Penelope and Emily's face faltered in disappointment but Emily's face more with concern."don't you feel the slightest bit of fear ,crawling under the tunnel ,what if has no end like the previous one ?."
David chuckled at Emily's voice."we would never know what's down there till we look ,so it's my job to search every weird looking tunnel and see what's hidden there."
Penelope nodded understandingly, though her eyes still sparkled with disappointment. "We'll miss you, David, but we know how important your research is. Be careful crawling through that tunnel, and don't forget to tell us all about it when we get back"
Emily's concerned expression lingered, but she smiled weakly. "Yes, do be careful, David. We don't want anything to happen to you."
David grinned reassuringly. "Don't worry, I'll be fine. I'll make sure to take all necessary precautions. Now, you two have a wonderful time at Penelope's family estate. I'm sure you'll have a fantastic adventure!"
With that, David bid the girls farewell and continued on his way to meet his research team. Penelope and Emily watched him go before turning to each other, excitement sparkling in their eyes.
"Shall we get ready for our trip?" Penelope asked, already heading towards the door.
Emily nodded, tucking a stray lock of hair behind her ear. "Yes, let's go I'm so looking forward to meeting your family"
