Chapter 24: The Battle
Adam is currently flying on the sky, looking down on a city below him. Occasionally, a few skeletons can be seen flying around casting spells or creating buildings. In the middle of the city is the tree that Adam used to enter Lark.
Except from the Commander, no one knows about Adam's plan to build a city around the tree. Even Wang Lin and his team knows nothing about it since they no longer need to hunt for food. Adam's farm has single handedly decrease the rate of starvation and Illness among the people. With him also slowly raising cattles for future use, there is practically no use for them to go out to hunt some meager amount of food for the populace.
With a radius of 100 km, the city is huge. Even bigger than the underground space where the humans are hiding. In the city, Adam practically put everything that is needed for a city to be self sustaining. Even if one day in the future, humanity almost become extinct again. As long as the city don't fall, humanity will thrive.
Landing on the city wall, Adam nodded as he observers his skeletons hammering the steel wall.
[City Wall]
Item type: Building
Rank:B
Level 25
Desc: Can withstand the attack of monsters 25 levels above it's own easily.
After multiple trial and error, he realizes that the best building materials for the [City Wall] is steel. Not only because it is easy to find, it is also a lot more durable than rocks or earth.
While Adam is busy inspecting the wall, a skeleton holding a giant cannon flies to him. The skeleton puts it down next to him, bows and returns to where it came from.
[Mana Cannon]
Item type: Equipment
Rank:B
Level 25
Desc: Fires mana ball and deals damage equivalent to 100 x mana input.
Adam place the [Mana Cannon] on the wall and continues his inspection. Along the line, he places marker for where the cannons are to be put so that he doesn't need to do it himself.
The [Mana Cannon] although sounds overpowered from the description, it actually has one major flaw. The rate of mana transfer from a person to the cannon is fixed. You can try to push the mana to flow faster but at best the Mana will just disperse in the air or at worst the [Mana Cannon] will explode.
How does he know that? Don't ask. Anyway, that's why the cannon is only B rank. If Adam finds a way to negate the slow rate, he might be able to rise it's rank to A or even S.
There is also the problem of range but that is not really a problem and more like a dream for him to able to shoot a cannon from his base all the way to the enemy's base. All in all, it is a pretty good weapon considering that it's only real upper limit is energy and time.
Just as Adam finished placing the cannons, a skeleton comes to Adam to inform him that the Commander wishes to see him. Adam thanks the skeleton and orders all the others to continue working while he goes to meet the Commander.
Commander: Adam! Finally, you are here. Quick something big is happening.
Adam: Calm down, Commander. What's wrong?
Commander: The energy rate on the surface suddenly spike a few minutes ago. And not only it spike, this is the highest recorded energy level since the first invasion.
Adam: What does the spike of energy level mean? Is the invasion coming? I thought there is still a few months left?
Commander: Yes. Following the pattern so far, the next invasion will at least take a few more months. I don't know what is happening right now.
Adam: Hmmmm, I have a theory of what is happening. Maybe because of my activity on the surface, the demons detected the increase in mana activity. So they might think that humans are doing something right now.
Commander: Then, what should we do? Should we hide?
Adam: You go hide and seal the way to the surface. Just wait for me in Lark while I settle them.
Commander: What?! You can't face them alone. There must be thousands of them.
Adam: No worries, I have face worse. Anyway, just trust me. In any case, at worst you just need to seal away Lark for a while. I already make sure that even if that happens, you all can survive with the supplies that I left you for at least a few hundred years.
Commander: This. Alright. I wishes you the best.
Adam: Thank you but I don't need.
Adam returns back to the city and immediately orders his skeletons to bring the weapons and armors they have been making these past few months. When each of them is equipped with at least an A level gear, Adam lines them up along the city wall like the wall guard.
Adam then sits at the top of the city gate, waiting for when the invasion will start. To be honest, he is a little excited because this is his first time playing as a war general. Sure, all his soldiers are his skeletons so this will probably be childs play but it doesn't mean he can't enjoy it.
Just as Adam starts to get bored of waiting, the sky turns crimson as the wind howls in anger. A big giant portal that has a diameter of at least a few kilometers, opens up not far from his city. This further reinforce his theory that the demons probably can feel the high level of mana usage in this area.
Soon, a battalion of demons march from the other side into Earth. Their appearance are vicious and disgusting. With some looking like a deformed rat and the others like an unholy creation of some mad scientist.
They scream and shout as they points towards him and his city. Suddenly, the earth shake as a being, so high that his head would have pierce the cloud if there is any steps out of the portal with his flaming body and giant claymore.
???: Humans! How dare you stand before me?! Bow before me and I shall left a piece of your corpse for the others to bury.
Adam: Hoh! Arrogant aren't ya. Are you the devil they are so scared about?
???: I am Kharmol. The fire of destruction. This world will once again tremble in my name as I shall once done it.
Adam: Cool cool. Anyway, I just want to say one thing.
Kharmol: I shall entertain you, human. Tell me what you wish to tell.
Adam: For someone called the fire of destruction, you look very unthreatening.
Kharmol: You dare insult the great Kharmol! Prepare to die!
As Kharmol shouts, his millions of demon army rush towards Adam swiftly. They are like a rabid dog that sees a little kid. Adam smiles as they are rapidly approaching.
Adam: Soldiers! Fire!
Multiple explosion sounded at the same time and massive craters appears one by one on the demon army.
Adam: Hahahaha! That felt so good. C'mon soldiers. Charge!
As Adam orders, his skeletons immediately jumps down the city wall, and rush towards the battlefield. Kharmol scoffed at the hundred or so skeletons as he is confident that his million strong demon soldiers can easily beat the skeletons.
Oh how wrong he is.
