Chapter 3: The Monster Inside
Musufatu was a city that held lots of dreams and aspirations, right now, Shinji felt like he had none. He was a passenger in the monster's body.
He was currently watching as the monster was running thorough the alleyways following a scent.
His quirk always seemed to follow his wishes and do anything it takes to complete them.
It was like if another individual was residing inside his body and when he came out, he barely had any control over him.
The monster kept running without ever being seen and the smell just kept getting stronger and stronger.
Shinji felt his body inside the monster, he was crouched with his hands on his knees. Could he ever leave the inside of this thing?
He tried to deactivate his quirk, but it didn't work. Shinji had to watch helplessly as the monster finally arrived where the scent ended.
it was them, the group of people that killed his friend. Extreme anger took hold of Shinji, and the monster noticed this.
They were in a warehouse that had minimal lightning and looked abandoned. In total, there were six people.
These men were talking about what they had done with Daigo without the minimum idea that they were being watched from the shadows.
"Man, did you see the face of that lizard freak? Freaking hilarious hahaha."
"Damn, I wish I could turn back time to do it again." Another man answered.
It got to a point where they started mockingly imitating his friend moments before he died. "Please don't hurt me, stop, it hurts."
The men once again started laughing uncontrollably without noticing that above them, death awaited.
The monster dropped down and swiftly decapitated two of them before pouncing his next victim and clawing him to death.
The others had frozen from shock but quickly recovered. "How come there are monsters in this city!? John!!"
Seeing the insides of his friend spilling out, he started activating his quirk, but the monster was faster.
The arm of the monster was elongated impossibly and swiped at the man's throat before he had any time to think.
Desperation filled his eyes, he knew his death was coming, but he couldn't bring himself to accept it.
Many things in his life left unfinished. As he fell on the ground with his hand on the wound, he looked at the monster.
He raised his other hand and launched a spherical object at high speeds on the direction of the beast.
It didn't even scratch it, all hope was lost, and he slowly bled out until he died. His friends soon followed, with the other three being dismembered and one eaten.
Shinji felt the elation that came along with eating a human. It made him forget about everything and desire for more.
It scared him that he would become a monster without control. Just thinking about what they did to Daigo was too much for him.
He wanted to escape from inside the monster now, to never see it again. Shinji then started feeling his consciousness start to waver.
What he was certain of was that he was leaving the monster's body. "Why did this have to happen? I want to go home." Shinji dejectedly spoke.
Responding to his wishes, the process of leaving the body stopped mid way. Shinji was sucked back inside but this time, he felt something different.
His body started fusing with the monster. His appearance took more of an animalistic look resembling that of a beast.
He now had long, sharp claws and his limbs were elongated, his face was pale and sharp teeth adorned his mouth.
Shinji felt as though it was hard to get a hold of his thoughts, they were all jumbled and scattered.
Battling with the confusion, instincts took over. Shinji started running like an animal at high speeds towards his house.
It had been his wish right before transforming into this thing, and his body seemed to remember it.
There was not a whole lot of sunlight outside in the open. Shinji started running through transited streets without any care.
Civilians were confused and worried when a blur passed just besides them but just as they had seen it, it was already gone.
He didn't know who he was anymore, was he Shinji? Or was he the monster?
Shinji certainly didn't realize when he had gotten home. When his focus was brought back, he was right above his mother with an open mouth ready to devour her head.
Fear started spreading through his body, this was a very dangerous situation. He had almost killed his mother.
Thankfully she hadn't noticed since she was so absorbed in watching her phone sitting down on the couch, and he was right behind her.
Shinji's mom felt that something was wrong and looked just behind her. When she saw her son, she screamed and jumped out of terror.
"Boy, you want to kill me of a heart attack? Go to your room and don't come out until I say so."
Fortunately, Shinji had reverted to his normal self and had deactivated his quirk just in time for when his mom had turned around.
Shinji did as instructed and returned to his room with tons of thought plaguing his mind.
He flopped down into the bed and thought about Daigo, it was the only thing that was filling his head at the moment.
"I left his head in that trash, I need to go back and bury him." When he stood up from his bed to do as he had thought, his quirk started acting again.
He stopped for a second, but resumed walking when the feeling disappeared. He took two more steps and he felt his quirk now more than ever.
"Why is this happening?" Shinji tried to leave his room but he felt that if he did, the monster would come out.
"Why can't I control my quirk? I just want to honor my friend." Growing desperate, he went to open the doorknob but stopped once he realized something.
His hands had already became that of the monster's. He had no choice but to stay in his room as an accident could happen if he left.
Now laying down on his bed, he made a promise, "I promise that I will become a hero in the future and save oppressed people like my friend."
What he didn't know however, was that this dream would never become a reality for him.
