Chapter 8: Chap7: Strangers

I turned around, and behind me, I saw that the person who had called me was indeed the one I had imagined.

It was Daichi, my classmate from Ushimi Middle School.

'But he had told me he was going to U.A., hadn't he?'

"I didn't think I'd see you here. Did you change your mind?"

Daichi let out a small chuckle before crossing his arms, a familiar smirk on his face.

"Yeah, something like that. At first, I was dead set on U.A.—I mean, it's the top hero school, right? But I was not accepted for the heroic courses. So I thought about what Mayu said about going to another school.

"I see. Well, which hero class are you in then?" I asked, curious to know if Daichi had ended up in the same class as me.

Daichi grinned and crossed his arms confidently. "I'm in Class 1-A."

I raised an eyebrow. "Huh, no way. I really thought you'd be at most in B."

Daichi shrugged. Then shot me a teasing glance. "I couldn't just let you have all the fun without me, could I?"

Shaking my head. "Tss, that sounds just like you. But are you ready for this? Because Class 1-A is no joke."

"Don't worry, I assure you." He said in a determined tone.

"Anyway, come on, follow me. We need to find our classroom. I have a feeling we really don't want to be late on our first day here."

I start walking down the hallway, glancing at the room numbers as Daichi falls into step beside me.

"First day, and you're already worried about being late?" he teases. "Didn't think you were the type to stress over stuff like this."

I roll my eyes. "It's not about stressing, it's about not making a bad first impression. You know how strict this schools is."

Daichi laughs. "Yeah, yeah, I get it. But honestly, I'm just pumped to see what kind of people we'll have in our class. Think we'll get any future top pros?"

"Who knows? There is already me" I say, stopping in front of a door labeled 1-A. "Well, this is it."

Daichi grins. "Guess there's no turning back now."

I push open the door, stepping inside. And just like that, our journey as heroes-in-training officially begins.

As we step into the classroom, we spot four students already seated. Some are chatting, others seem lost in thought. But among them, one familiar figure immediately catches our attention.

I blink in surprise, but Daichi reacts before me.

"No way! Mayu, you're here too? Damn!" He walks over to her with a big grin, raising his hand for a high-five.

Mayu looks up, clearly just as surprised as we are, before a small, amused smile appears on her face.

I cross my arms, shaking my head with a light laugh. It's true that she said that her father had come here.'

She gives us an amused look.

Daichi chuckles, nudging me. "Guess this just became way more interesting, huh?"

I nod. "Yeah, guess we're in this together. Even if alone would have still done it for me."

Mayu smirks. "You guys better not slack off just because I'm here. I'm not about to carry you both."

Daichi grins wider, nudging me back. "Don't worry, Mayu. We'll keep up, just try to not outshine us too much."

"You know she included me just to please you, but it's clearly a message for you Daichi." I tell him.

He doesn't respond deciding to ignore my words.

I glance around the room, noticing the other three students who are still seated.

"So, Mayu, have you talked to the others here?" I ask, gesturing to the other students in the room.

Mayu shrugs casually, her eyes scanning the others. "Yeah, a bit. They seem pretty chill, but there's one guy who's already acting like he's in charge." She rolls her eyes slightly. "I'm guessing we'll have a few of those types in every class, huh?"

I chuckle. "Probably. It's always the same. You get some people who think they've already got it all figured out. Before I show them who's really in charge."

Daichi leans in, his curiosity piqued. "Who's this guy??"

Mayu points subtly toward a tall guy near the back of the room, his arms crossed, looking somewhat aloof. "Him. He's been staring at everyone like he's sizing us up." She pauses for a moment before smirking. "But I'm not worried. He'll probably be all talk."

I raise an eyebrow. "Interesting. Looks like we've got a few personalities to watch out for already."

Mayu gives a small nod. "For sure. But there's also some decent people here. The guy sitting next to him seems more down to earth. You'll see."

Daichi leans back, nodding. "Well, as long as we don't get stuck with the overconfident types, we should be good."

"Indeed this role has already been taken." I had to say it.

As the minutes passed, more students began to trickle into the room, each one entering dressed in their school uniforms. The atmosphere grew a bit more serious clearly different from U.A.

By the time the last student walked through the door, there were 18 of us in total, all seated or standing, some chatting in hushed tones, others eyeing each other with curiosity.

I glanced around at the growing group. "Wow, looks like this is really it. Class 1-A is complete."

Mayu nodded, her gaze scanning the newcomers. "Yeah, 18 students… it's going to be interesting, that's for sure. You can already tell some of them are here for serious business." She pointed subtly to the guy we'd noticed earlier, who was still acting aloof. "Him again, still sizing everyone up."

"In reality it suits me to have one like that rather than another one that would be noisy." I was thinking of a certain blond guy.

Daichi gave me a playful shove. "Don't get too comfortable, Takashi. We don't know them, maybe you'll finally find your match."

As the last few students took their seats, the room quieted down, and we could feel the weight of what was about to happen—the start of our journey in Class 1-A. It was clear this year wasn't going to be anything like what we'd expected.

Our teacher finally made his entrance. His hero name...

Gang Orca.
