Chapter 71: Final Exam Arc (5)

~Third POV~

[UA High School, Practical Exam Area – Ground Beta, Japan]

With the second and third practical exams already finished as canon, it was now Momo and Ren's turn. They already left prepared as they began to search around in their exam site in Ground Beta. Ren spoke in a determined tone, "It's our turn now. Let's go. Yaoyorozu."

Momo nods her head, feeling a bit nervous. Noticing his partner's body reaction, he asked in a calm tone, "What's wrong, are you nervous?"

Hearing his calm tone, Momo took in a deep breath as she exhaled in a calm tone, "Oh. No. It's okay. With our opponent going all out, I suppose I'm a bit nervous."

Ren curtly nodded his head, responding as they moved, talking to Momo in a determined tone, gazing at their surroundings, sounding the end conflicted in his tone, "I don't blame you. I apologize you got teamed up with me… if you didn't, then maybe you have a better chance…"

Momo, hearing the sincerity of his tone, responded in a calm tone, trying to reassure him, "I don't blame you, ya know. But we must keep our head in the game."

*BEEP*

Just in time for the buzzer sounds to rind out as the speaker said out loud, "Team Yuki and Yaoyorozu. Practical Exam. Ready, go!"

*Pop*

Hearing this, their expressions hardened. Momo began to produce Russian nesting dolls from her body as they continued down the streets of the Ground Beta.

Both had a plan if they encountered Eraser Head. One would be to combat him or run away finding their exit through the gates.

Having been rushing forward the two finally saw the entrance of the gate exit of Ground Beta. But soon Ren's eyes flashed towards multiple pop-up screens appearing with Momo Quirk [Creation] having been halted.

Noticing that their powers weren't working, they soon saw Aizawa guarding the gate, reading a book as he stoically said, "Hmm…? Took you long enough to appear problem children."

Aizawa activated his Quirk [Erasure] on them. Ren scowled underneath his helmet seeing the notifications informing him of his worst fears.

[Ding!]

[Your quirk [All in One] has been temporarily nullified!]

[Due to your [All in One] having been nullified your Quirks are no longer available!]

[Your Quirk [One for All] has been temporarily nullified!]

*Fwp*

Closing the book he was reading, Aizawa finally stood up straight from his spot as he casually spoke with a grin on his face, "Not much time left. Couldn't let you kids slip through me. Combining bustling streets with the ruins of the old town… This kind of environment is my hunting grounds."

*Whip*

*Fwap*

Immediately, Aizawa tossed his combat scarf using his [Binding Cloth] style. Both managed to avoid sprinting away as it grabbed a signpost. With one quick clench pulled…

*Fwap*

He snapped the pole of the sign, signifying his strength and advantage over them. He began to sprint after Ren, eyeing him as the problematic one of the group as he suggested to them in a stern tone, "Good to see that you two are acting knowing I'm here. But I would suggest that you prioritize evasion since I've taken your power from you."

However, it was at that moment Ren grabbed hold of the Russian nesting dolls, revealing a flash grenade inside them, alarming Aizawa in surprise. Pulling the pin, a blinding flash of light erupted from the flash grenade.

*Shiii*

Blinded by the light, Aizawa quickly moved back, jumping to the telephone lines above, forcing himself to blink. Once he did so, both Momo and Ren felt their Quirks returning immediately and reacted.

Regaining their powers, Ren shifted his attention to Aizawa as the cackle of electricity shrouded his fist as he shouted, gaining his attention in a serious tone, "Taste this! [Electro Fist]!!!"

*Rmbl*

*BANG*

Recovering quickly, Aizawa saw a column of electricity directing him as Ren quickly used his [Wormhole] to create a portal. But soon, Aizawa activated [Erasure], canceling his Quirks again as he spoke in a stoic tone, "This will be simple. I was always going to catch you first since you're the team's offense."

*Swooosh*

*Whip*

*Fwap*

Quickly using his environment, Aizawa used his cloth scarf to spring around using the telephone line wires to avoid the [Electro Fist] in a scolding tone, "Remember this, Yuki. This is a residential area, and you must keep collateral damages down. But that little light show won't stop me."

*Whip*

*Fwap*

This time, Aizawa maneuvered down as he managed to grab hold of Ren. He smirked, capturing him without any restraints, and asked in a confident tone, "I know about your Quirks and what you can do. I'm perfectly prepared to defeat you both."

Ren remained quiet for a while, having his Quirks depowered. He only responded, gazing at Aizawa, grabbing hold of his Capturing Weapon tightly in a confident tone, staring, "Oh, we know that much, Aizawa-Sensei. That's why we created a plan, knowing you'll come after me first."

*Swoosh*

*BAM*

He simply raises an eyebrow as his attention, but soon, Momo instantly throws a shield at Aizawa, which hits and ricochets, allowing Ren to sprint and grab the shield released from his bindings when Aizawa is hit. Aizawa recovered quickly, having his head hit by the shield growling lightly.

However, Momo soon took into hiding out of sight to avoid getting her quirk erased as he spoke in a stern tone, "Okay… now I'm certain of getting BOTH of you now."

*Swooosh*

Ren sprints forward using [Sprint], surprising Aizawa as he begins to pummel him with punches and kicks, but Aizawa starts avoiding the attacks and counters with a swift kick missing.

*Swooosh*

Aizawa throws some caltrops in hopes of taking Ren by surprise with his Quirks down. But said weapons are deflected as Ren throws his shield again.

Aizawa dodges it and shoots his capturing weapon from his person to pull Ren towards him….

*Whip*

But Ren catches the capturing weapon cloth with his hand, and his shield bounces off a wall, hitting Aizawa in the back as he groans in pain and speaks in an annoyed tone, "Ack! Aiming for the back, huh? Cheeky brat..."

*Bam*

Ren yanks the captured weapon and races to get his shield. As he retrieves the shield, Aizawa is flying towards him and rams the shield into Ren's chest, forcing him to be knocked into a wall.

*BAM*

*Whip*

Aizawa began to use his weapon again to capture Ren, which is useless against the shield, with Ren using it to block his attacks. Ren pushes Aizawa back, only for Aizawa to spread smoke bombs along the floor, startling him.

*Boom*

*Poof*

Caught off guard from the smokescreen covered, Ren carefully analyzed the situation, gripping his shield tightly. This is followed by the smoke screens going off, and with the rim of the shield in the wall, Aizawa seemingly vanished.

*Boom*

*Poof*

Then, more smoke bombs are detonated. Ren looks around, confused, until a capturing weapon cloth flies by his head, narrowly avoiding getting caught.

Ren throws his shield in the distance and waits for a second…

*Whip*

*Fwap*

There was no sound from the veil of smokescreen. Nothing happens until a capturing cloth appears, grabbing ahold of his arms tied up with Aizawa, slowly revealing himself in a stoic tone, "Not bad. But not enough Power Ranger. You gotta do better than that. But I believe we should end this."

*Swoosh*

Aizawa leaps in and uses his combat experience and knowledge to his advantage of his [Binding Cloth Style] trying to wrap around Ren. In response, though, Ren merely relaxed his arm muscles to weasel out from the bindings, avoiding the binding.

Their eyes narrowed as they both charged toward each other and unleashed their first attack. Aizawa's kick collides with Ren's punch.

*BAM*

Ren charges forward and tries getting Aizawa with his [Thunder Punch], startling Aizawa lightly, but he can counter and avoid his blows. However, he narrowed as he thought in a surprised tone, 'What…? His Quirks should be erased! How the hell – shit!'

*Rmbl*

*BAM*

*Whip*

Aizawa lunges his weapon forward on Ren, taking notice. He quickly avoided the danger as Aizawa led in with a kick to catch Ren off guard.

However, his eyes narrowed that the damage was transferred through the ground thanks to [Flowing Battle], effectively making blunt damage useless to him. When he was within range, electricity began to erupt from his body, shocking Aizawa from the surprise hitting his [Bio-Electric Aura].

*Rmbl*

Aizawa, feeling as he got shocked back away, questioned with a level stare at him in a serious tone, "The hell…? How the heck were you able to use your Quirk when I erased it from you? And when the hell did you get decent using a shield?"

Upon hearing this and getting a clear view of the hole behind him. Ren's eyes caught Momo having her creation prepared for their plan as he spoke, stalling for time, "Just pure skills. Why? Is your Quirk giving you skill issues?"

*Whip*

Not revealing the answer, Aizawa glared as he charged up his Capturing Weapon, and Ren saw his surroundings beginning to surround him with his capturing scarf. Ren releases his [Electro Shotgun], and this forces Aizawa to dodge the incoming energy projectiles.

*Rmbl*

After avoiding the attack, the two continue to exchange punches or kicks with each other while on the ground. Aizawa narrowed his eyes, seeing his attacks weren't having any effect against Ren while on the ground.

His eyes wandered to the ground, showing cracks beneath Ren's feet. After realizing frontal attacks weren't working, Aizawa thought in a serious tone, 'No matter what damage I do to him physically, he's redirecting it to the ground. Is it a Quirk's ability to redirect the shock into the ground to avoid damage like [Shock Absorption]? If that's the case…'

*Swooosh*

*Whip*

*Fwap*

Leaping through the tossing of his capturing weapon, he managed to grab ahold of Ren as he tossed him through the air. This time, he leaped again, landing a hit to his stomach, noticing Ren groaning in pain as it clicked in his head, muttering stoically, "So long as you're on the ground, you can't be harmed physically normally. But while in mid-air, you can be harmed normally. Interesting trick, kid – hmph!"

But soon Ren broke out of the restraints, grabbing ahold of Aizawa as they fell into the air, he yelled out loud, "Momo now!"

*BANG*

The sound of a gunshot could be heard as Aizawa's eyes widened, having been too busy capturing Ren in his lapse of judgment, he had forgotten Momo. He turned to see her shoot out a capture net, turning his attention away from Ren, taking out his Power Sword, and witnessing a flash of light from the support item, forcing him to blink, blinding him exactly at that moment.

*Shiii*

At that moment, Ren let go, and Aizawa blinked in surprise as he regained his Quirks. He quickly used [Wormhole] to get out of the situation unfolding.

*Swirl*

*Thud*

Having escaped, Aizawa was caught in mid-air as he fell to the ground, bonded with the capture net, ensuring his restraint. Momo soon arrives, placing the handcuffs on his wrist and speaking in a tone of relief, "Whew… that was a bit too close for our liking, but we caught you, Aizawa-Sensei. We really did it, huh?"

*Beep*

The sirens began to speak through as Ren appeared, having looked exhausted by the announcement, "Team Yuki and Yaoyorozu have passed the final exam!"

Ren smirked hearing that, as did Momo. They high-fived each other, with Aizawa gazing at them with a light smile on his face, thinking to himself in a proud tone, 'It seems like the girl managed to regain her confidence and decision-making skills. Seems like pitting her with Ren seemed to have been a good choice with his personality and confidence, he could influence the girl to be more assured of herself. Although…'

His gaze soon shifted to the ground, recalling Ren being able to use his bioelectricity. He asked himself in a stern tone, 'I'm positive I erased his Quirks. Why was he able to use his electricity unless… - that's not a Quirk. An innate ability or skill, as he put it… the problem child has some explaining to do.'

After Ren's team returned to the monitor room along with his classmates, they soon saw Ochaco and Yuga struggle against No.13…

~Ochaco U. POV~

[UA High School, Practical Exam Area – USJ, Japan]

*Sweeee*

Holding onto the railings near the entrance where the gate is right there. But we were caught off guard by No.13 as she began to try and suck us with her [Blackhole] I couldn't help but complain, "Ah! Oh, man, but we were so close!"

No.13 was coming towards us at a safe distance as she spoke in a neutral tone having her fingers pointed at us activating her Quirk, "There's no way I'll let you get away that easily!"

Noticing the suction power of No.13 Quirk is getting stronger I couldn't help but exclaim holding onto dear life, "It's getting even stronger the closer Thirteen gets!"

No.13 soon chimes in as she casually comes closer as I feel the suction force getting stronger, "I'm not great at combat, but I am excellent at capturing."

Dang it! It looks like escaping from Thirteen's [Black Hole] Quirk is next to impossible.

We need a plan to break free. And my partner chose a very poor time to make a joke of the situation, "Ah! I guess you could say this Quirk sucks, doesn't it?"

I shot a glare at him as I yelled out loud in an annoyed tone, "Are you serious right now? We're in big trouble here!"

That was when Aoyama began to have confidence in shooting a laser from his knees against No.13 but surprise, that failed immediately. Then he had the gull to speak with a smile of the seriousness of our situation, "This is no joke."

My eyes widened as I yelled out loud completely annoyed with Yuga, "What is your problem?"

He then replied with closed eyes as I felt my eyebrow twitch, "I have no flaws!"

This isn't good. We're trapped. Gotta figure out how to get outta this!

That was when Yuga had to say something that made me lose concentration as he spoke in a curious tone, "Hey. Are you thinking about Ren Yuki? Ah, how sweet. Is it... because you like him?"

Ochaco.Exe computing – Ack! Not the time!

But thanks to him I accidentally let go of the railings cupping my face at the thought. My eyes widened, realizing the situation.

That was when I recall what Ren's muscles – er! I mean, what he mentioned during the monitor room comes to mind.

'The best way to go about against her is to catch her by surprise, getting sucked in intentionally, and force her to turn off her Quirk, cuffing her in the process as you are sucked into her direction.'

Isn't this the best chance I can do that? It's either now or never. And I won't lose because of my teammate dragging me down.

I must do this for my own family. Failure isn't an option!

Using the momentum and following Ren's advice, predict where she'll move and go after that point. And from the way No.13 turned off her Quirk, he was right when she wouldn't use this to harm a student.

*Swoosh*

Punching with an intentional miss. But brought me close to my real goal, her wrist grabbing hold of that, No.13 mutters in a stunned tone, "Where'd that come from –"

*Cling*

Following the rule of attack first and asking questions later, I cuffed No.13 with my free hand. Ren did say that it's always better to do your actions than listen to some people's monologue.

The lessons I learned from everyone and advice just so happened to come in handy here. I'm a mini battle hero!

*Beep*

The buzzer blares, announcing the victor as I am happy for my win, "Team Aoyama and Uraraka have passed the final."

I smiled at this. I did pass, even if it was a bit through dumb luck. I guess I couldn't have passed if Ren hadn't put those lessons into my body and mind.

Although I'm miffed that Yuga didn't do much. And he was busy flaunting to himself in a mirror that we – no. That I almost failed because of my partner's inability to listen and to make myself more assertive…

If I was a bit more assertive… would Ren-san look at me differently? Ah! Stupid Aoyama putting that idea in my head…
