MHA: Hands on, Quirks Up!

Chapter 44: Chapter 16: Part 2

The soft glow of morning light crept through the blinds, laying faint stripes across the wall. I stretched my arms out with a quiet groan, blinking away the traces of sleepiness. My room was quiet.

Except for the slow rhythm of Mina's breathing beside me.

She had curled into me sometime during the night. One arm rested across my chest. Her head was tucked into my shoulder, hair a wild pink mess spilling over the pillow and onto me.

It was just before seven, right around the time I usually wake up.

I sat up and reached for the edge of the blanket, tugging it back up gently to cover Mina's shoulder before slipping out of bed.

I went through my usual morning routine: a quick walk to the bathroom, brushing my teeth, and then taking a cold shower to wash off the morning fog.

When I stepped out with damp hair and a towel slung around my shoulder, the house was silent.

Dad was already gone. He left early for work, as he always did. After everything what happened yesterday, I half-expected him to stick around, but… well. People don't change overnight. And even if he did stay, what would he even do? It would be weird for him to force himself back into my life.

I threw on a loose T-shirt and some sweats before heading into the kitchen.

I preferred something simple for breakfast, fast and functional. I fried two eggs in a pan, and put two slices of bread in the toaster. Brought out some strawberries and orange juice from the fridge.

Five minutes later, I was done.

With a plate in hand, I settled onto the couch, flipping the TV on with the volume low. The morning news was on, looping over stories about city traffic and hero sightings. I mostly just listened while eating, only glancing up now and then.

I was finishing my last bite when I heard the soft shuffle of footsteps behind me.

Mina emerged from my room, rubbing her eyes with one hand and yawning into her wrist. Her hair was even messier now.

"Sorry," I set the plate down. "Did I wake you up?"

She stretched her arms above her head. "Nah. I usually wake up around this time. Maybe a bit later?"

"You want me to make you something? Fair warning, don't expect a gourmet spread."

She gave me a sleepy smile. "Sure. Just give me whatever you're having."

"Alright. Coming right up."

She disappeared down the hall toward the bathroom while I stood and walked back into the kitchen, cracking more eggs into the pan.

By the time she came back out, I was plating her food.

"Perfect timing," I chimed, handing her the plate. "Chef Kyūta, at your service."

She gave the plate a theatrical once-over. "Whoa, this is some real gourmet stuff," she teased, grinning as she took it from me. "Toast and fried eggs? Didn't know I was dining at a five-star restaurant this morning."

"Only the best for my guests," I chuckled, settling down onto the couch again.

She snorted as she sat down beside me. I grabbed the remote and turned the volume up a little.

The screen was tuned to a news network, but a scrolling headline at the bottom caught our attention.

"All Might and UA's Principal Nezu scheduled for a press conference - 8:00 AM."

Mina noticed it right away. "You think they're gonna talk about the attack?"

"Definitely, it's the only thing that comes to mind." I leaned back, sipping the last of my orange juice. "That's in about twenty minutes. Should be just enough time for you to finish eating and for me to clean the dishes."

She gave me a sideways glance, grinning. "Look at you. A whole house-husband in the making."

I smirked, standing up with my plate. "You should enjoy it while you can."
