MHA: I Am Homelander

Chapter 3: ‘Quirkless,’ My Ass.

"Company incoming," Kain muttered, his tone cold and sharp like a blade freshly drawn. His eyes narrowed as he raised a clenched fist, signaling the group to halt.

The air thickened with tension, pressing down on them like a weight.

"All able bodies, form a wall. Protect the injured and the children. Kazuo—frontline," he barked with military precision.

Kazuo nodded without hesitation. He didn't speak. Words weren't needed.

He crouched, tugging off his worn shoes in one practiced motion. The skin on his feet was rough, dirt-creased, hardened by years of barefoot training in alleyways and cracked pavement.

He bounced once, then twice, the friction against the concrete sparking something beneath his skin.

Static thrummed in the air around him.

Slowly, his hair began to lift, strands floating weightlessly upward as if reaching for an invisible sky. A faint, vibrating hum echoed from his body—energy building.

Behind him, the civilians scrambled into place. Bent rods, jagged pipes, sharpened planks—tools of desperation clutched tightly in trembling hands.

They formed a line with uneven breath and nervous glances, children tucked behind protectively.

Footsteps echoed.

Measured. Deliberate. Confident.

From the far end of the corridor, three bare-chested figures emerged, pale skin marred with scars and symbols inked into flesh.

Their faces hidden behind bone-white skull masks that reflected the weak emergency lights like specters from a nightmare.

Predators.

They halted briefly. The silence hung, stretched taut—and then Kain struck.

His arm whipped across the air.

THOK!

The closest villain was yanked forward by unseen force, his body pulled like a puppet. He barely registered the movement before Kain's knuckles met his mouth.

The impact echoed like a thunderclap.

CRACK!

The villain slammed into the wall, blood trailing from his mask.

[Name: Kain Ryuusei]

[Quirk: Draw]

[Description: A form of Minor Telekinesis that allows the user to draw objects or people toward himself, or himself toward other objects. Limited by mass and distance.]

"What the hell..." muttered one of the other villains, stunned. But confusion lasted only a second before instinct kicked in.

The second villain, lean and wiry with darting eyes, vanished in a blur—each step followed by a snapping hiss of air.

[Name: Villain #2]

[Quirk: Dash Drive]

[Description: Enhances speed and reaction time in short bursts. Can move so quickly it creates the illusion of teleportation. Causes muscular strain if overused.]

He shot forward, foot raised to strike, but Kain drew it.

A jolt tugged the villain off balance mid-step, skidding him slightly to the side.

VUANK!

Kazuo struck from above, descending like a bolt. His heel connected with the villain's temple. The sound was meaty, final. The villain's body twisted mid-air before crumpling into a heap.

"Nice," Kazuo couldn't help but commend himself with a grin.

[Name: Kazuo Takeda]

[Quirk: Kickstart]

[Description: Generates and stores kinetic energy through movement or physical impact, discharging it through his legs for bursts of speed, massive leaps, and devastating kicks. The more energy he stores, the more his hair lifts.]

"Fast little bastard," Villain #2 growled, spitting out blood as he rose.

The first villain had risen again, his hand dragging across the wall as if painting. But he wasn't. His body drank in the stone.

[Name: Villain #1]

[Quirk: Absorb]

[Description: Can absorb and replicate the properties of materials he touches, coating his body in them for defense.]

His skin transformed—granite gray and rough as if carved from the tunnel itself.

The third villain stood apart, arms raised. Bracers on his forearms lit up with pulsing lights.

[Name: Villain #3]

[Quirk: Pulse]

[Description: Converts internal energy into volatile plasma-like projectiles fired from bracers. Medium range. High recoil.]

PEWW! PEWW!

Twin bolts of light screamed through the air.

Kain twisted his body sideways, dodging the first. The second he didn't even flinch at—instead, he reached and pulled Villain #1 directly into the blast's path.

SSSHHHKKK!

It hit stone, hissing and sputtering.

"What are you doing, idiot?!" roared Villain #1.

"Get out of my way, jackass!"

Their bickering gave Kain a moment. He kept his movements mirroring the stone-skinned brute, using his own body as a living shield.

Across the field, Kazuo's fight intensified.

He ducked under a hook, flipping upside down and spun on his palms, his legs cutting the air like propellers.

Villain #2 zipped around him, dodging with grace. "Close. But not quite."

VUANK! VUUNK!

"Our Quirks are pretty similar. But you're missing one thing I've got..." Villain two licked his lips, his eyes narrowing then...

WHAM!

A counterpunch to Kazuo's ribs forced him back.

"Style!" Villain #2 mocked, watching Kazuo grunt, biting down in pain, going in for another before...

VUANK!

Kazuo leapt into the air, so high that he could comfortably place his feet on the ceiling, shooting back down in the next second as he threw down an axe kick.

BANG!

"You talk a lot." Kazuo hissed, watching the villain barely evade his attack, the latter's smile flattering for a moment.

'His speed consists of short bursts. With my experience and the consistency in my speed, I can just about survive, but if I get hit even once...Kid's packing some serious heat.'

The villain admitted.

'Shit...Kain won't last long like this...I need to help him...' Kazuo thought, but he knew he had to take this one down first.

Meanwhile, Loid watched it all, scanning every movement.

'Kain's slowing. Kazuo's burning out. That third guy. With him gone, it'll allow us to be more flexible. We can win this...I just need to...'

He turned to the others. "Stay back!" Then bolted forward. He didn't need to go far, after all...he simply needed his eyes to fall on the Villain.

Villain #2 noticed immediately. He pivoted, dashing to the boy, much to Kazuo's dismay.

"Loid!"

Kazuo yelled, watching the Villain lash out his leg in a kick.

Loid widened his eyes, diving away.

FWOOSH!

He rolled on the ground, feeling the attack wiz past him.

He rose to his feet as he snapped his head back, only for Villain #2 to swipe his hand through the air, chucking a handful of dirt into the boy's eyes with his same devious smirk.

"AHH—!"

Kazuo rushed over, swinging a kick to the villain, which the latter promptly dodged.

"You okay?!"

"I—I can't see!"

Kazuo let out a grunt of discomfort as he darted his eye back to his battle.

"Stay here."

Loid clutched his face. 'I can't shoot like this… I can't fire without aim or I might hurt the others…Damn it!'

He paused. He breathed.

He could hear Kazuo continue his battle with the Villain, so with this moment of respite, he remembered where exactly he was and what direction the villain was in.

He listened.

PEWW! Another blast echoed.

'Left side. That angle. Larger charge. He's bracing. I can hear it.'

He focused. He used anything to his advantage, hell even the smell of the plasma shots burning nearby rocks.

Maybe it was because his primary sense was obscured that for some reason...everything became clearer in the coming moments.

He could hear. Heartbeats, blood pumping violently in anticipation.

He could smell. Sweat, each with a unique odor. Smoke. Singed plastic.

Hell, he could even feel. The tremors of battle. The heat exuding off each person. Footfalls in the dirt.

Then—

BEEP. BEEP. BEEP.

"It's done," Villain #3 grinned, pocketing something.

"You're too slow," #2 added with a sneer. "Our boys'll be here any second and we'll personally drag you to the Boss."

Suddenly—

A burning red glow washed over the tunnel.

For once, the battle halted as each and every individual couldn't help but turn.

Loid stood still, rising to his feet as he raised his head.

His eyes—red as blood and burning with raw, volatile light, the dust melting from his face.

"L-Loid…?" Kazuo whispered.

ZZZZMMMM!!!!

"GAAAHHH!!" Loid screamed, a ray of death erupting from his eyes, two conjoined lasers blasting through the air and destroying any earth or debris it touched.

Villain #3 turned slowly, his eyes widened as he was flooded with a red light.

BOOM!

Light consumed the corridor. The roar deafened.

When it faded, all heads naturally turned back to where they last left their eyes, only to witness the top half of Villain #3 completely gone. Vaporized.

His lower body remained. Then slumped.

THUMP.

Drip. Drip.

Blood. Entrails. Steam.

Loid panted. Eyes wide. "Holy shit…"

The group stared in stunned silence.

"L-Loid…" Kazuo muttered, unsure on what to say or how to process what he just saw.

Kiyoshi vomited. Daiki stammered. Yuka's mouth hung open.

The children cried out as the older teens shielded them.

Even Kain paused.

Then—

BANG!

Kain's fist cracked against Villain #1's jaw. "Kazuo!"

Kain yelled out, Kazuo's attention focusing as he blinked, then turned back to Villain #2 who was still gawking at the scene, his smirk finally wiped off his face.

"Yeah!"

Kazuo lunged.

Kain's hands bled from punching stone.

But he kept going, pulling and slamming, over and over, refusing for his opponent to even regain his footing with his Quirk, each punch sending him tumbling back further than it should have.

"Now!"

Both Kain and Kazuo made a sharp turn, whizzing by each other.

Kain faced Villain #2 as the latter widened his eyes in surprise.

"Shit!" He exclaimed, dashing back with his speed.

However, his retreat was promptly cancelled as Kain yanked his arm through the air, Drawing the Villain back toward him, then...

POW!

A punch buried itself into #2's mouth, blood gushing and teeth flying, a single punch making him hit the ground, motionless.

Meanwhile, Kazuo ducked Villain #1's swing, spinning as he planted both hands on the ground and swinging his heel to his opponent.

VWANK!

His foot struck the side of #1's head, releasing all the Kinetic Energy he'd stored. The stone shell cracked as he collapsed, unconscious.

They had won, but the group stood silent, all eyes on Loid as they forgot to celebrate, even the usually focused Kain taking a minute to eye the boy.

"Quirkless, my ass," Daiki murmured. "That kid's a walking nuke."

Kain's voice cut through. "We move. They're most likely on their way after hearing all that commotion. Yuto—lead us. Now."

Yuto nodded, activating his Quirk. Glowing maps lit the wall.

They followed.

Kazuo looked back, watching as Loid knelt beside the mangled corpse.

"Hey…we've got some things to talk about, don't we…" He asked, to which Loid remained silent for a moment.

Loid stood. "Yeah…we do."

Kazuo stared for a second, "For now, let's get out of here."

Loid turned, nodding as he pocketed something.

'This'll be useful for later,'
